Helen was the second to appear in the basement, her feet trampling and tripping as she almost fell out of the stairs. The scream made her ears ring and her chest ache. The brunette's foot twisted on the fourth to last step and she fell, tumbling down, down, down. Her forehead bounced off the concrete basement and she looked up just in time to see light tugging Clary away. Her hand darted out and grasped the edge of her shirt, pulling with all her might to stop the light. Helen struggled to her feet and wrapped her arms under Clary's armpits, pulling and slipping as the dancing sliver squeezed and constricted.

"Someone help me." Helen grunted.

There are two types of dreaming: Authentic dreaming and Illusory dreaming. Authentic dreaming is when the dreams’ occurrences are plausible and reflect something a human, the dreamer, can relate to. Illusory dreaming is where the most impossible and bizarre things happen. Scientists have been studying dreams for decades and have yet made any progress, though they assume they have. They are adamant that dreams are somehow connected to the brain and subconscious. They are not ready for the truth.

Because the truth is, dreams are a journey of the soul. A journey of the soul through a world inhabited by creatures that we have only speculated about in our entirety. It is a magical world with no limitations, no restrictions, and no laws – it is complete liberation. If we wished it, we could fly or we could breathe underwater. Anything is possible in this dream world of ours. It is our haven, our sanctuary – it is ours, humanity’s.

Something has happened. All over the world, people are falling into comas and doctors cannot find out why. And when they sleep, when they take that journey to that world, they are met with terror. Our dreamworld has become a nightmare, a place with too many limitations, restrictions, and laws. We can no longer do what we want when we sleep at night, we are stuck and miserable. And we can’t get out.

{Discussion about Hailey Carter whom fell into a coma two days prior in Birmingham, Alabama…}

REPORTER: So, you are Hailey Carter’s mother. I cannot tell you, as a fellow, mother, how horrible this experience must be for you.

JOAN CARTER: Yes, it has been really hard. I don’t even know why it happened, y’know? It’s the not knowing that’s the worst – will she wake up? What caused this? Is she going to die? It’s…this is the worst I have ever felt in my entire life.

REPORTER: So terrible. You were on a boat when she Hailey fell, is this correct?

JOAN CARTER: Yes, we were fishing in my dad’s boat and Hailey’s brother just caught a fish and then she…

REPORTER: What happened?

JOAN CARTER: Hailey’s eyes rolled back and she began convulsing on the boat. The boat began rocking an-and she fell into the water. Oh, it was horrible! She’s only eight!

THE DREAM WORLD

Creatures

The Sandman is an old man that maintains the Dream World and keeps everything in order, retaining paradise. He has gone missing and Dream World has fallen into chaos.


The Baku are beings that devour nightmares and work for the Sandman, they are his army and enforce the laws. However, they receive their powers from the Sandman and now that he is missing, they can no longer implement the rules and have fallen into chaos.


The Mara has evil goblins which seek to corrupt the human mind with insanity by bringing nightmares to all that roam Dream World.


The Oni are hideous, gigantic ogre-like creatures that are known for causing trouble. They have no interest in the fight between the Mara and the Baku, but just want mischief. They are to be avoided at all costs.


The Sphinx are women with the body of a lion and a human head. They are known for their wisdom and will offer help to anyone who can solve their riddle, however if you fail to solve it you will be devoured.

The Shadow People are entities seen in a person’s peripheral vision; they are neutral and can be convinced to help or to harm.


Will-o’-the-Wisp are ghost lights seen at night; they lead humans from the safe path and towards danger. However, they can also lead you to what you desire most.


Ammit is a female demon who devours the souls of all humans who are impure. She is supposed to maintain the purity of Dream World and prevents anyone from sullying it.


The Bean-Nighe is an omen of death and a messenger from the underworld. She screams whenever she senses death.

The Meadows

Information

Human souls are able to travel to the Dream World, or Annwn as it is called by the inhabitants, because human souls are made of a tangible material that is able to twist and fold enough to enter through the door to the Dream World. However, because their souls are so tangible, they are weak and easily pierced whilst the souls of the inhabitants of Annwn have steal, strong souls. This weakness makes humans susceptible to insanity and the longer they stay in Annwn, the more sanity slips from their grasp. Thus, humans cannot last more than a week in Dream World.

Annwn is a land of eternal youth, immortal happiness, and an abundance of food. Diseases exist not in this world and everyone gets along because they follow the rules the Sandman had set down before them. When the Sandman went missing, the evil Mara – who are being led by an unknown force - quickly rose in control with the weakened Baku fighting against them. The Dream World twisted into a dark place and black crept across the land. Once peaceful animals had turned rabid and the benevolent creatures all turned on each other. War had broken out everywhere and there was no trust.

Now, an overabundance of human souls roams the land and cannot leave! When it began to get overcrowded, they started to disappear one by one. The ones who didn’t disappear have gone insane and are nothing but raving lunatics. The world has fallen into chaos and the only one who can bring it back to order is the Sandman.

ROLEPLAYING INFORMATION
You have just fallen into a coma and find yourself lost and confused amongst others. You must band with the others and face wild animals, treacherous creatures, perilous landscapes, and the grips of insanity. There is a door hidden in Annwn which will bring you back to the realm of consciousness, but no one knows where it is and those that do certainly won’t tell you. You have the choice of finding your way back or rescuing the missing Sandman.

Name: Balthazar “Thaz” Carlton

Age: 21

Personality:
Thaz is a woman of strong morals and refuses to bend them for anyone. Independent and feministic, she thrives on the ability to care for herself. While most find themselves awkward, Thaz is comfortable in her own skin and knows herself like the back of her hand. Her greatest flaw would be her brutal honesty; she willingly tells the truth even if it risks hurting people’s feelings because she was never able to distinguish the line where honesty becomes cruelty.
Many would describe her as being hot-blooded because of the intense passion for what she believes in and the strength of her rage when angered.

Magical powers/ Physical Abilities:
Thaz has the ability to control molecules in anything. This means she can blow things up by speeding up the molecules, slow things down, and melt things. However, it takes her a lot of energy to control more than a couple of molecules and for her to blow things up, slow things down, or melt things she needs more than a couple of molecules in her control. She possesses Energy, Matter, Mentalism, and Timespace.
She also has a simple know-how in weapons and martial arts, specifically boxing.

Flaws: Thaz is generally unlikeable and overwhelming which leads to many enemies. Her hot-headed nature also leads to loss of control in her abilities at moments.

Side: The Agency

Bio:
Thaz grew up on a small farm with her parents and two brothers in the South. She was the youngest of her siblings and was often on the receiving end of some anger-inducing pranks. Most days she spent her time wrestling, fishing, and chasing the family’s chickens which were notorious for getting out – the family had been calling their six chickens “Houdini chickens” since Thaz was at least six. The eldest son of the Carlton family was interested in medicine and had moved to New York for med school whilst the middle child wanted to take over the family farm. Thaz was twelve when her brother moved out and had visited him many times since then.
The first time she visited him, though, she had passed by the Empire State University for Magi and Nonmagi and immediately fell in love with the school. The Carlton daughter became obsessed with the arcane arts and began studying to get into the New York school. Books were bought and piled, reread and then sold, until she learned all she could learn from books. All that was left was actual school.

Thaz almost flunked out of the Empire State University for Magi and Nonmagi her first year; university was so different from high school and she was quickly overcome with stress. However, when visiting her brother at the hospital where he worked, she was imbedded with new determination and began working harder than ever. She graduated as one of the top ten in her class and was accepted in the Agency.

So, I personally don't have a problem with this, but "dusky" is considered a racist term nowadays. Just thought you should know so, in the future, you don't accidentally offend someone.
