VSync limits your FPS to the refresh rate of your monitor. For example, if you have a 60 hertz monitor, it'll stay stuck at 60.

You have vsync on? Because you are probably getting more than that...

Gee, sorry for brushing over it a little in my excitement. Sort of forgetful.And yeah, just playing a temp little server wouldn't be half bad. I'm afraid my FPS hasn't improved much, but then again my computer is a little feeble.
In 1.8, you won't notice much of a difference if your processor isn't dual core. Which, to be fair, most newer computers and laptops have nowadays. Even netbooks.

Yeah, I see no problem with doing this. :p It'll give everybody a chance to get used to how 1.8 works and marvel in the FPS gains for those with multi-core processors.

Install Forge in Minecraft. Then add mods. Boom, new game. (Not even kidding.) And if you have a bleh computer, well, as long as you don't go over 20 mods, you should be good. If you want some suggestions for mods, PM me what kind of things you are interested in and I'll see what I can tell you.
To be perfectly honest, do we NEED bukkit to play mine craft? We wait 3-4 weeks before we get our protection plugins. Big whoop. Yes, I am aware of the rogue griefer, but so far the things they have done have been nothing more than the equivalent of somebody stealing a paperback book.
