Or you could, you know, play the RP from a narrative standpoint instead of trying to be an armchair general. Less about gunporn and army wank, and more about really dipping into what makes a nation tick.

To be real, I've yet to see an NRPer conduct his or her military in a proper manner, the reason for this I attribute to the fact no one really knows a lick of anything about actual warfare.

Additionally, I plan to play a fantasy species that in no way adheres to the usual rules and/or formulas associated with conventional human-style warfare, so I don't see how a stats system is really going to benefit nonhuman species unless you're really going to limit people to the usual boring Tolkien-style races and whatnot.

I'm not going to fault ASTA for stealing an idea when I don't even know if he's so much as glanced at my CS. It IS possible for two people to have the same idea independently of each other.

I honesty haven't read any of the CSes for this RP.

Though to be frank, I started messing around with electromagnetism after reading up on it. I draw power/ability concepts from real-world technologies and scientific mumbo-jumbo, or I recycle old material from past characters and fictional nations I've utilized in the various CRPS and NRPs I've been in.

Ah, now I remember.
Somewhat unrelated, but I need some advice on my next character. Before I put effort into a new CS only to have Beta, LeeRoy and everyone else in this thread yell at me for making something broken as hell, I have a mind to make a character that primarily deals with acoustics and the electromagnetic force.

I won't get deep into it, but acoustic weapons, when properly calibrated to the resonant frequency of an object (either living or inanimate), basically causes them to shake---violently. Think of them as relatively-primitive matter-disrupting weapons, except minus the usual science fiction mubo-jumbo about power fields and antimatter. Tesla did experiments with this sort of thing actually, where he created some sort of 'reciprocating electricity generator' that he [supposedly] claimed could topple large buildings by causing them to shake. This claim was later debunked by the Myth Busters however, but the overall principle is still fairly accurate in showcasing what sonic weapons could potentially do.

The only issue with sonic weapons is their piss-poor range, however. Possibly one of the most destructive weapons you'll come across, but they'll be outdone in the range department by almost every missile weapon out there. That and they wouldn't function in space, or any other perfect vacuum or near-perfect vacuum environment.

In terms of EM manipulation, I was thinking about having the character use them to augment his own body's durability by strengthening his own molecular bonds, or enhancing his own physical attributes such as speed, strength or agility.

I'm also unsure on how fair it would be if he could just willingly separate electrons and protons from atoms, since this would amount to him having the capacity to basically break down living and nonliving objects to their basic building blocks, so to say. Splitting atomic nuclei is also a real possibility, though this would lead to him generating macro-scale fusion or fission reactions.
I've never had someone close to me pass away before. I've been to funerals (more than three, I believe, though perhaps it was more along the lines of two funerals) and looked at a deceased person, but it's nowhere near the same exact thing as what you're going through. Maybe to cheer you up, you can find someone to hang with on Mother's Day. A movie or some other recreational activity might help take your mind off of things.

EDIT: I think me posting cut Beta's post out; he said something on the last page before this one LeeRoy, in case you didn't know.
I'm sorry to hear that LeeRoy.

Yes. Raving. Are you daft, mate?

As a person who staunchly believed you didn't do anything wrong even when everyone else jumped on the hate machine (for their own reasons, of course), I'm fairly certain Shim didn't blame everyone else for the demise of that particular roleplay.

Assuming no stats are involved

Yes, pretty much this.

I am surprised flight isn't ubiquitous. Too cliche?

I couldn't justify it, since his signature ability is wormhole generation, of which allows him a very high level of tactical flexibility during fights. Adding flight seemed like overkill to me.

The most he'd be able to do your ship is shoot at it from the ground using either his railguns or his single particle cannon, though the effectiveness of this is brought into serious question by the very idea behind orbital assets, which basically paint space as the ultimate high-ground (and thus the ultimate advantage against a ground-based enemy).
