Lauren - Haywood - Katie/Rob

"Katie...! Katie!" Lauren flinched when Katie grabbed the cup, fearing that maybe the girl would attack her with it. She was slightly relieved when the cup instead went flying through a window, but the sound was likely to make everyone in the house think they were under attack. Katie had quite the throw on her. "You have to be quiet!" Lauren exclaimed as she shifted off the couch and moved to take Katie's hands again. "The walkers are outside." She tried to pull Katie closer so that she could embrace her. "I'm so sorry. I'm angry too, I'm so angry I can't even think, but we can't--we can't-"

She stopped when someone entered the room. Rob, she believed his name was. He was glaring at her while trying to calm Katie down himself. Lauren didn't know what he was thinking about her, but she would die before she let Katie near him. She gently pulled Katie closer to herself. "We have to be strong, Katie," she whispered. "Your daddy would want you to be strong."

Myriah - Outpost - Council Members

When she had heard that someone had been sneaking around last night, Myriah was sure it was little more than a case of paranoia. Ever since the mutiny, leaving the cabins and tents at night had become taboo. People were just afraid of what others might think-- what others might do. Despite this, it was still never a rule and Myriah herself had no issue with people going out at night. She probably should have been the most wary, considering it was her life that had been in danger, but that didn't seem to matter to anyone.

She walked into the office expecting Samantha to explain that this was all a misunderstanding and that all she was doing last night was going out for a walk. Unfortunately for the girl, she was a nervous wreck. She couldn't look either Rhonda or Myriah in the eye and stumbled over her explanations. Even after they explained to Samantha that she hadn't actually been caught breaking any rules, she still acted as if there was something she was hiding. After a brief discussion with Rhonda and a few of the other council members, they decided there was nothing they could do beyond possibly keep an eye on Samantha. For all they knew she had been simply sneaking out to meet with a boy.

"Is everything all right in your cabin, Samantha?" Myriah asked when they were out of the office.

Samantha looked puzzled before shaking her head. "No, why would there be?"

Myriah let out a small sigh and adjusted her glasses. Her eyes studied Samantha, looking for some sort of sign. She found herself worrying about the girl now. "Do you maybe want to stay in my cabin for the night?"

Slowly, Samantha nodded. "Sure."

Myriah smiled and placed a hand on Samantha's back, ushering her forward. "Then how about you and I hang out for the day? I have to some errands." Although Samantha looked nervous about it, she went along with Myriah. Perhaps if the day went well, Myriah figured she could get to the bottom of all this.
Bex - Outpost - Matt/Enrique

For Bex, it had been a difficult task getting up this morning. His head rocked with pain after having spent the night drinking. Although alcohol was scarce in Outpost and Reggie was intolerant of it being consumed by his scouts, some of the scouts who managed to procure themselves a stash anyway had been nice enough to share some of it with Bex. With Reggie and most of the scouts out on a night mission, it had been a night of unwinding and letting off stress for the rest of them. For Bex, it had been a bit more than that; It was hard for him to stop drinking once he started and the night had ended in a bleary daze.

He almost died in the morning when Tyler awoke him (Or at least it felt that way). The man had a serious look set onto his brow and he was curt in telling Bex to head to the administrative building. Whatever Tyler needed him for, Bex knew he couldn't blow it off as a hangover was a shameful excuse. Sluggishly, Bex dressed himself and left the cabin in a hurry. Tyler was waiting for him at the entrance to the administrative building where he then led the way inside.

"There's a plan set in motion," Tyler said as they walked. "One that'll help me gain some favor around here."

Bex stopped in his tracks and Tyler gave him an annoyed look. "What kind of plan?" Bex asked, warily.

Tyler shook his head. "I had Enrique plant something that will mean bad things for our friend Reggie. He has a lot of influence around here, so naturally he needs to be taken down a peg." Tyler stared, waiting for Bex to say something, but Bex had no idea what to say. This was really sudden. He had thought Tyler had changed, but here he was making dirty plans. Bex's head hurt way too much to process this.

"Why do we need to gain favor?" he finally asked.

Tyler stepped forward, getting close to Bex. His eyes stared him down and it took a large effort for Bex to focus. "I need to get my daughter back. Those Haywood monsters have her. They raided us and took my daughter away. They probably have the vile Lauren with them as well." Bex felt his stomach flip at the mention of Lauren. Or maybe that was the hangover. He finally gave in and rubbed at his sore head.

"And you want the scouts to lead an attack," Bex said. "I guess Reggie is already aiming to take down that one gang, so attacking another gang isn't all that different..."

Tyler smiled at this. "Yes. I'm glad you understand. All I'm doing is ensuring we get to my daughter as fast as possible." Tyler then turned around, leading Bex further into the building. They soon entered a room that looked like it had been turned into a makeshift classroom. Desks and tables of different shapes were littered about the room and a whiteboard had been put up in front of them. This must have been one of the language classes.

In the room stood a man who seemed to have been waiting for them. Tyler introduced Bex to him and Bex learned that the man was named Matt. He was in on all of this, it seemed. In a few minutes, Enrique arrived, prompting Tyler to start whatever this all was. Bex tried to avoid wincing in pain while Tyler talked.

"Rudy has the book for now, but I doubt he'll notice anything off with it. Very good work with that, Enrique." He gave the man a nod before continuing. "As for Samantha, I believe she was caught last night, though she had been courteous enough to lead whoever found her away from us. This is probably for the best, because, well..." Tyler now gave Bex a pointed look. "I think she'll be the one. All right, Enrique?" Bex looked confusedly from Tyler to Enrique. He felt like there was something he was missing here.

"I don't care how it's done, because it doesn't really matter in the end."

Well, I think it's fine, so I'll go ahead and accept it.

Now in terms of where your character can start out, it's really up to you. There's three main groups of characters at the moment: Haywood, Outpost, and The Pub (which despite the name is a hotel). There's also a fourth group at the moment but they're a bit full right now. Of course, you can always start off alone and later meet up with whomever.
Reggie - Outpost - Enrique

"I give that gang a week before they attack the hotel. Soon after that, they'll be coming after Outpost." There was no doubt in Reggie's mind that the Art Museum gang would retaliate. Men like them, they didn't take attacks on their own lightly. Reggie had to admit they were a lot like him, in that regard. "We need to strike first."

Reggie turned back around and scrutinized the new cigarette Enrique had pulled out. "And beyond that, we have a horde of biters coming our way in just a few weeks after that. We need to live through this hardship to fight in the next, do you understand? I'm counting on you to pull this off. I'll make sure you and your friends are well respected around here if you do."

Satisfied, Reggie turned to leave. He passed by Thomas who gave him a smile and a nod. Reggie gave him a nod in return and continued on his way. Behind him, he could hear Thomas speak to Enrique, "Hey, can we talk? I just..." And then Reggie was out of earshot.
Rudy - Outpost/Night Raid

'Go,' Thomas signed, stepping away from the cabin door. Samantha nodded and began working at the lock with a nail file. Rudy hunched next to the wall in an attempt to hide himself, even though the people on the wall would probably spot them no matter how invisible he made himself. Hopefully the watchers would be focused looking outward for a few minutes, at least.

George moved to Samantha's side and asked, "Are you sure you know what you're doing?"

"She needs to concentrate," Thomas said a bit harshly. "And don't talk." Looking embarrassed, George stepped away and Samantha continued as if she hadn't heard anything.

It was only the four of them searching the cabin, though Samantha had volunteered to stand watch directly outside the house. The other students were tasked with watching the surrounding perimeter for anyone walking by, but that was unlikely as it was frowned upon for anyone to be wandering about at night if they didn't have a job to do. Still, it was nice to have that extra security.

Samantha grunted excitedly and threw open the door. She dramatically bowed and gestured inside, making Rudy smile. Thomas then nodded and led the way inside, leaving Samantha to shut the door behind them.

Inside, Rudy paused to look over the interior. Even in the dim light from George's flashlight, Rudy could see that the cabin was rather sparse of personal effects. Not that it was easy to get a hold of decorative statues or whatever kind of shit people were into, but it was common for the scouts to pick up items that had no real use nowadays. Rudy himself had nabbed a couple of posters for his own cabin and a couple of video games that would probably never be played again. Still, Reggie's cabin contained nothing like that. In the low shelf beside the bed sat a couple of books that Thomas was quickly pouring over. On the desk was only a couple of pencils and some paper. It was all so sparse and so utterly like Reggie.

"You sure Reggie won't be back soon?" George whispered into Rudy's ear, having apparently forgotten the plan to not talk for a second time. Rudy ignored him for a moment to pour over the papers on the desk. They were covered in rather ineligible words and large parts of them were scratched out. Rudy's heart skipped a beat in dread at the idea of having possibly found evidence, but he soon realized that the papers simply detailed a schedule for the scouts. Like Rudy had known, Reggie had tonight scheduled as clean up for the surrounding forest.

"I'm sure," Rudy finally replied. "Reggie doesn't like sending any of the scouts out at night without him." George nodded and began looking over the papers himself, though Rudy could see the unease in the guy's brow.

Thomas then waved them over and pointed at a book in his hands. 'Found something,' he signed and handed the book over to Rudy. Licking at his lips, Rudy opened the book to the first page, but found only a blank page. George then joined him and hovered over his shoulder as he began to flip through the pages. November 6th one page finally said, almost making Rudy laugh to himself. It was a fucking journal.

Rudy quickly closed the book and handed it back to Thomas, who nodded and pointed back outside. Opening the door, the trio were surprised to find Samantha missing. George raised a hand to call out, but Thomas punched him in the shoulder before he could make a sound. Go, he signed, and nodded toward the administrative building. They had to contact Matt straight away. That had been the plan, after all. Rudy was concerned about Samantha, but they would have heard something if she had been caught, right?

There was no time to think on it, as Thomas was already sprinting away.

***

In the administrative building, George grabbed Rudy by the arm to stop him. "What are we doing?" he asked, clearly panicked. "What about Sam? And-And that journal... Reggie's going to know it's missing." Rudy blinked and turned toward Thomas, who only started back. It seemed George couldn't stand the silence as he soon added a voice-cracking "Well?".

Thomas shook his head. "I don't know where Sam is, but that doesn't matter right now. We found something in there, at least. And it wasn't like we could sit there and read the whole thing. We had to take it."

"He's right," Rudy said. "Fuck, come on, George. You need to cool it. If Sam was caught they wouldn't have left the fucking cabin she was guarding alone. Don't be an idiot."

It took a second for George to register what they had said, apparently, as there was a delay before his face turned crimson. "I'm going to look for her," he said, his voice indignant. He let go of Rudy's arm and left, practically stomping.

"Whatever," Rudy muttered, continuing ahead. Storming off in the dead of night was only going to make them getting caught more likely, but there was nothing they could do short of tying George up, but who knows what he would have done then. The last thing they needed was for someone to rat them out.

As Rudy opened up the journal to read it as he walked, Thomas caught up to him. "Kind of funny if you ask me," he said.

Distracted by the book, Rudy took a moment to respond. He was flipping through the pages to find the date of the mutiny. "What?"

"Has anyone told you you're kind of rude, Rudy?"

"... Oh, fuck off."

"I mean-"

Rudy shook his head and chuckled. "It's a nickname. Myriah thought it was funny." November 7th... November 12th... October 23rd? Strangely, the entries in the journal seemed to be mixed up, and some of them appeared to be written with much different writing implements.

"So, Rudy's not your real name?" Thomas asked, his brow raising. "What is it, then?"

While the disorganized dating wasn't out of the question for most journals, it seemed a really odd thing for Reggie of all people to be doing. "I don't really give it out nowadays. You could buy me dinner first, at least." Rudy looked toward Thomas with a smirk. The man only shook his head in response, but Rudy saw the slight amusement in his eyes.

They reached the office and found it unlocked like Matt had promised. They went to one of the unused cubby holes that had once upon a time been reserved for camp counselors, but now were being used by the council members. Rudy and Thomas were to leave a note of their success and leaving it in Matt's cubby would only lead to issues if someone else happened to pick it up for whatever reason. "I should hold on to the book for tonight," Thomas said as Rudy was placing the note.

"Why?" Rudy asked, stepping away from the cubbies.

"I'm new here, so I have less to lose, I think."

"I don't think so, dude. I have friends around here who can vouch for me. You? Not so much." Rudy crossed his arms and watched as Thomas seemed to think it over. He looked away momentarily and Rudy was worried he was going to argue. "I mean it, I'd be fine, really."

"... Hm. Okay. You're right." Thomas smiled and Rudy found himself smiling back. At least someone listened to reason, unlike Thomas' moron friend, Enrique.

"I'll get this to my cabin. I got a good hiding place in mind... Under a few magazines I picked up out scouting. No one in my cabin would dare touch those." Thomas looked at him in confusion and Rudy laughed. "Never mind."

"Sure. Thanks, Peter." Thomas smirked.

Peter? Fuck, that was way off. "Was that a guess?"

"Did I get it?"

"Hell no. Now you only get two more guesses."

"Fine with me."

It wasn't long after that the two went their separate ways for the night.
Lauren - Haywood - Katie

It had gotten late, somehow. Lauren had evidently fallen asleep after her altercation with that girl. She didn't remember much of the last few hours, though she was relieved her dreams had been quiet. She knew- she just knew- that Bull would find himself into her dreams sooner or later. His big stupid hairy grin would be plastered on his face and he take her into his big stupid hairy arms. The thought alone made her want to throw up.

But it also made her angry.

She had awoken to an empty living room with Katie at her side. The little girl was nudging her, looking excited despite the day's gruesome events. Despite all odds, Katie was such a strong girl. Tyler at least did something right raising her. When the little girl mentioned Bull, a lump formed in Lauren's throat. She found herself unable to swallow and her body wracked with pain all over again. She was going to have to tell Katie all over again that someone close to her had died and Lauren didn't even have Bull to help this time.

"Katie... Katie." Lauren reached out and gently took Katie's hands. She rubbed at them softly in attempt to calm the girl down. "This place is dangerous. These people aren't good people. I-I..." She found herself choking up. This was beyond difficult; It was something Lauren had never experience before. Not even with her parents, who she believed were long gone at this point. They had been getting old as of late, having given birth to Lauren late in life after choosing to go without children for many years. Then her father had been diagnosed with cancer only a few years ago and his life had been steadily draining away ever since. Lauren had been prepared for the death of her father and, to a lesser extent, her mother.

But Bull... She hadn't been prepared for that. She loved that man... Had loved that man. More than anyone else she had ever been with. Bull hadn't always been the greatest, but he had been hers.

"Bull is dead, Katie. These people killed him... It's just us now." The words were blunt, she knew, but Lauren couldn't think of another way to put it. She wanted to cry and bawl all over again, but she couldn't afford to. She needed to be angry, not sad. She needed to take Katie far far away from these people. Maybe take her away from the living entirely while she was at it.

Another question; The people listed in the 'Outpost' info slider, are those all NPC's? What might do I have over them as in, killing them, letting them suffer injuries, ...? I'm just going to take it easy with my first post since I don't want to blow it, but this might be handy for later. (much later actually)I'll just have my character return from a scouting mission with some NPC scouts listed. Just spam me if I did anything wrong. Also spam me if it's not normal for my character to be a scout.

That's actually a really good question. The characters under the location names are just every character at that location, both PCs and NPCs alike. I'll start marking down PCs and important NPCs with *s by their names in that slider.

As for what control you have over them, if they don't have a * then you have full control over them if you need them for a specific reason, just don't start getting them killed off rapidly. They have minor blurbs about them in the NPC info post but most of them are rather blank so don't worry about making them OOC.
Rudy - Outpost - Matt

The room was in silence as the students processed what Matt had said. They had all listened in rapt attention but now were left in confusion. Rudy turned to Elliot and asked, "Did you get all that?" Elliot confirmed that he did and stepped forward to sign toward Matt. 'If this is true, all Reggie has done is manipulate us.'

Samantha then stepped forward and placed a palm on the desk in front of Matt. She looked at everyone in turn, a determined gleam set into her eyes. "I'm in," she said. "I've never trusted that man anyway."

"We need to find out the truth," Thomas said, stepping forward as well.

The other students began to crowd around Matt's desk to give their confirmation. Soon, only Rudy was standing outside the circle. The group looked at him expectantly and he shook his head in frustration. "Fuck, guys. What if Matt's wrong about this?"

"What if he's right?" Thomas replied. "All we're going to do is sneak into his cabin."

Rudy rolled his eyes. If they were caught, Rudy had no idea what Reggie would do. Innocent or not, the man would likely dispense his personal brand of justice before the council even caught wind of it. Then the council... fuck, Myriah would be so disappointed. "I just..."

Elliot shook his head and waved Rudy over. 'Don't make do this by myself,' he signed. He looked at Rudy with pleading eyes. They were friends and Rudy was abandoning him, those eyes seemed to say. Rudy hardly thought he was abandoning anyone, but it concerned him that Elliot was counting on him for this. It seemed to him that Elliot was only doing this because he was angry with the community and it was motivation like that which tended to lead to trouble. Still... Rudy couldn't stand by and do nothing at all. "Fuck, fine. Whatever." Rudy stepped forward to join the circle and Elliot flashed him a smile.

Thomas then spoke up. "Good. Then we're all agreed." He gave Matt a nod before continuing. "Rudy and I are aware of Reggie's schedule, but I think Rudy can give a better idea of Reggie's habits... All we need is about fifteen minutes to get in and search the cabin. I'd like to say we could do it in less, but I have never done something like this before and I doubt any of you have either."

Everyone nodded but Samantha, who began to awkwardly look off to the side. "I can pick locks," she said, touching at a strand of her hair. "But it might take me some time. I'm not perfect."

"If you take too long, then we just abort and try another night," Thomas said. "Just as long as we're careful."

Elliot raised his hands. 'If we want to avoid making noise, why don't we just sign? I know no one ever hears me coming.'

Well, Rudy wasn't so sure about that. Some of the students were slow learners. "Uh, well shit, we only need to say a few specific things," he said. "Like go and stop. We're still learning but it's easy to remember a few basic signs."

Thomas nodded. "Sounds good to me. We'll just need a few of us to watch the perimeter and a few of us searching the cabin. Let's sort ourselves into who wants to do what..."
Shannon - Haywood - Jess/Riley/Daniel/Emma/Amelia

Shannon shook her head. She was fearful of Lauren's state of mind. The woman had named Shannon responsible for the death of her lover, after all. "We just keep her close at hand and keep an eye on her."

Emma then appeared at the doorway escorting a pregnant woman inside. Shannon found herself staring down at the woman's prominent belly and her mind filled with dread. There was a new life inside of this woman, a baby ready to be born into this awful world. Selfishly, Shannon hoped this woman would be leaving soon. If not, it was only fuel for what Shannon had to tell Daniel.

"I'm Shannon," she said a bit coldly. She then quickly excused herself and joined Daniel and Amelia in the living room. Shannon was relieved to see Lauren still with her head buried into her knees as it seemed the woman had fallen asleep. Shannon gave Daniel a vexed look before sitting down beside him and resting her head on her good arm. Soon, Emma appeared and Shannon gave Daniel a small nudge. The four were now alone with Katie and Lauren fast asleep.

"This is messed up, guys... really messed up." Shannon sighed shakingly, exhausted not just from the attack, but also from Lauren's verbal assault. She knew that Daniel and Amelia must feel even worse after being in the shootout. "I can't believe we lost so many, I can't..." She trailed off and rubbed at her bad shoulder. Shannon was finding it hard to focus her words and the slight pain from touching at it helped her concentrate.

"... I don't think we can stay. Not just because this place is going to give us bad memories now, but because... well, we can stay for as long as it takes us to bury the dead, but after that we need to go." She looked at Daniel, still touching at her shoulder. "This place is too big for a dozen people to defend, especially when most of us are sick, crippled, or just children. That's just how it is. That's reality." She then looked toward Amelia and Emma, talking to each of them in turn. "And it's also for that reason that I think we need to leave some people behind. We can't sustain so many injured people. You guys can decide who we can bring with us, but I don't think it can be everyone."

There was a pause, and Shannon suddenly panicked. She worried what they were thinking of her. Maybe Lauren was right and she was heartless after all. "I know I've made bad calls before, but that's how it is now! We messed up massively here and we can't fix any of it. I saw Poly die right before me, and all I could think of was that it could have been any one of us. Everyone that died, it's a miracle we're sitting here at all. We've been handed a lucky break and we have to make the best of it."
Reggie - Outpost - Enrique

Reggie stared back evenly. Perhaps Enrique thought himself amusing, or maybe even tough. Reggie was unsure if he was either. "I like to know who's working with me," he said. With, not for. Happy now, Enrique? "But I can respect that. It takes a strong man to help rather than hinder. You don't find many people like that these days." Amusing or not, Reggie didn't think of Enrique as a liar. Reggie believed that this, at least, was the truth.

"You have to understand that we're a wary bunch around here. You can't expect friendship just because the council's welcomed you." In the long pause that followed, Reggie turned toward the recruits and put his hands on his hips. "I'll need them ready in under a week. Do you think you can handle that? The safety of our community is at stake here."
Roran Hawkins said Allright. I'd rather start out as a new arrival though, but this'll do just fine. I just want to add here that I don't want to have my character stay with a large group of people for too long, since that'd be a bit obstructive for what I'm planning for him. But that could also be achieved with a group of people inside the community, so I can adapt either way.

What exactly do you plan for Alex? If you want to keep it a secret you can PM me and we can work out where to put him. He doesn't necessarily have to join Outpost, it was just an idea that I thought could work smoothly. If you're worried about Alex sticking with Outpost for too long it won't be long before the plot moves to a point where Alex would have a possible good excuse to leave.

Roran Hawkins said I assume that Alex will be just off of probation in the Outpost then? Is there anything else I should know or can I decide what he's doing there as a job etc myself? Can someone also give a real quick summary of past events my character should've heard about or currently going on? I've read the event log thing you made, which is moghty handy, but it's hard to keep track of the different characters and what's going on where. I simply do not have the time to read the entire IC either.

Don't worry, we don't expect anyone to read the IC, haha. The summary is an attempt to help people become familiar with what's been happening but I admit it's not the best solution.

Anyway, some info about Outpost: It was a community that started out in the forest as it`s out of the way out there and the nearby marshland slows down a lot of the surrounding walkers (everyone in outpost tends to call them biters). Myriah was once the town`s only leader and people liked her because she's, well, very likeable. The walls were built about three or so months ago and Outpost started separating people into groups based on their jobs in the community. The important ones are largely the wall group (people who stand guard on the wall), the scouting group (the group who looks for supplies and new members) and the builders (the group dealing with the community`s expansion).

Around a month ago (Around the time Alex would have joined), there was a mutiny and an attempt on Myriah`s life. A man named Reggie thwarted this mutiny and has become a respected member of the community since then. Myriah stepped down as leader after this and appointed a council of people to lead instead. Reggie also became the leader of the scouts. This is also when Outpost started its probation plan, where potential new members are forced to wait before they can join the community.

Recently, a deaf boy named Elliot was put on the wall by Myriah as he wanted an important job but couldn't be in the scouts. A man got angry that someone deaf was on the wall so Myriah has asked more people to learn sign language to help Elliot. This has led to Myriah implementing language classes in French and ASL and has given her the idea to start up a school for Outpost's citizens. In addition to this, Reggie`s scouts have learned that a horde of walkers will soon pass through and expanding the wall (something the community needs as it is becoming overcrowded) has been put on hold to focus on training more scouts so Outpost will have a proper fighting force.

During the latest scouting mission, Reggie's group came in contact with a gang living within the New Orleans Museum of Art. Reggie's group survived the encounter but out of fear of the gang retaliating, Reggie is hurriedly training new people into his group to take on the gang, though he hasn't informed Myriah or Outpost's council of this.

So, Alex would be familiar with people in the council at the very least. As for a job, that's entirely up to you.
