Bio
I am a Roleplayer with an interest in science fiction and fantasy, with a preference for Casual. I have been roleplaying for several years, and have even taken a stab at running a few RPs.
Outside the Guild, I am an Australian science student, gamer, musician and roleplayer (that's right, IRL too).
Divinus: The God Roleplay, Mk III We are new-born gods, summoned into an empty World by the powerful and enigmatic Architect. Our purpose is to create and fill the world of Galbar and the godly Spheres surrounding it, although with such a diverse pantheon there is all manner of disagreement over what to fill the world with. I co-GM this roleplay. I also play as Ashalla, the Goddess of the Ocean.
Divinus: The Deity Roleplay Mk2 We are new-born gods, summoned into an empty World to create a Universe where the last one was destroyed. Some wish to build it up, others wish to tear it down, and there is great conflict over what kind of Universe to create and what to put in it. I play as Teknall, the God of Crafting. He's a nice guy. I was also promoted to co-GM about half way through.
The Horde of Evil Under the command of a Dungeon Keeper, a horde of powerful beasts, monsters, warriors and demons sweep out to pillage the world beyond and battle against powerful foes. But a horde of the vilest beings in the land is far from cooperative... I played Torrens Igneus, a cunning fire demon and veteran servant of Dungeon Keepers throughout the ages.
Dungeon Keepers In this iteration, the Keepers arrive on a new world, in the land of Cyprus. This land is small and rich with resources, ripe for conquest. Yet it is ruled by a powerful and strangely unified nation of humans, with a King who has more power than he should... I GM'd this one. I controlled King Reginaldus, the sorcerer king with the power to read and manipulate people's minds while they slept. I've played in numerous past iterations before, although not all were on the Guild.
Sanctuary In a land where magical crystals power modern technologies, a terrible Cataclysm strikes the capital city. Spirits good and bad are unleashed upon the populace, and the military seal the entire city away behind an impenetrable wall. The spirits fuse with many people, granting them powers but also driving many to evil and violence. The players must try and survive in this post apocalyptic cityscape, and maybe even find a way to escape. I played as Zachary Mason, a kind-hearted, prodigious engineer, who is possessed by Kaa'is. He gains powers to control metal and read machines, but Kaa'is also drives him to become physiologically addicted to murder, an addiction he tries to suppress.
BattleCorp: Combatant Creator Tabletop section. The gist is that you get to invent your own special moves when you level up, tailored to your hero. I played David Pierce, a serious and dark gunslinger.
Regarding co-GMs, in whatever field the GM will use in future to select co-GMs, there should be an option to toggle on and off permissions for co-GMs. This would cater for both GMs who want to share power with the co-GMs and for GMs who only want the co-GMs as labelled helpers and want to retain the power for themselves.
An edit-backup needs to be time-based, or at least have a minimum time before clearing the history. This would prevent the rogue co-GM/moderator from simply spamming, say, 10 edits to wipe the edit history. The time also needs to be adequate for the fault to be detected and fixed in time. 24 hours may not be enough, for someone could easily spend a day or two away from the Guild. For the sake of revisions, it may also be useful to store a number of prior edits for a longer period of time (or permanently). However, I'm not sure what kind of a drain this may be on the Guild's database resources. I'm just throwing ideas around here.
If you do grant GMs the power over posts in their thread (something which could possibly be abused), then a system which puts the post in a large hider would be safest, for it allows the post to be hidden from view but still available to be read if need be. But a Report button to call a mod to a particular post would be a good idea too. How about give the mods the power to put posts in large hiders? Another tool in their toolbox.
--------------------
Oh, in regard to the current discussion on the pages, would a Go To Page # field/button (inside the thread) be too much of a problem? There is no interface option for going to a post in the middle of the thread, and asking users to edit the url is not user friendly. But I agree that we don't really need page numbers from the forum view.
One of the challenges of implementing RP specific features is, I suppose, ensuring that you cater to the very broad number of ways to manage an RP.
In regard to co-GMs, I would suppose you could make it such that the thread creator (or a moderator) is able to give the co-GM title to other users. This would provide a little flag in the corner like you have for the OP, and it should also provide the power to edit the first posts, or at least posts which the GM decides. What I could see that being useful for is to allow co-GMs to update things like character lists without the GM's personal intervention. It may be useful for the GM to limit which posts can be edited by the co-GMs (eg. can edit Character tab, but not the IC or OOC), just for security. I suppose the wiki-style OP suggested before may (or may not) fit this role well, with the creator and moderators able to edit permissions, although it should blend with the normal post style (I suppose you could just borrow wiki code, then. But then compatibility with old threads?).
Speaking of security, if such a system of shared ownership is implemented, a short-term post backup would be useful, to help restore griefed posts.
Night wore on into day, yet Reginaldus still meditated on his bed, watching the dreaming minds of his kingdom fade away to an faint haze as they awoke. He continued watching into the morning for a number of reasons. Firstly, he had little better to do, for most of the administrative tasks were carried out by others, leaving Reginaldus with only important decisions and subtle manipulations to make. Secondly, this meditative state was not quite as restful as proper sleep, so he needed to do so for longer in order to be completely rested. Finally, not all people in his kingdom follow a diurnal lifestyle, be it for legitimate or not so legitimate reasons, so meditating through the morning meant he could examine those minds too.
In the towns, everything seemed normal. The night watchmen were drifting off to sleep, as were the few other people who had worked that night. Reginaldus noticed in the town by the jungle a man's mind running with memories of a small burglary that had been committed that night. He planted a seed of guilt in the mind and planned to send an anonymous tip to the local police. He was almost done sweeping across his kingdom when he noticed a single mind in a deep sleep far from any village or home. This peculiar occurrence prompted his investigation.
At first glance the mind seemed to belong to a young girl, but stirring within was something strange, both in thought and in nature. He probed deeper, concentrating his attention on this odd mind, and what he found was most unsettling. In her memories were flashes of an icy wasteland, over-bearing cold and grotesque beings which seemed like the Ice Witches. At first he assumed that this girl had somehow fled from Kythnos in the North, but then the memories continued to a mighty yet, to this mind at least, soothing fire. This fire burned first the Ice Witches and then, later, the entire icy wasteland. Finally the memories revealed reality itself shattering and a sense of great relief and freedom as sunlight and fresh air were encountered for the first time in a long while.
Reginaldus was considering how powerful a magician this girl must be when he realised that he was not alone inside this mind. He sensed two other souls residing in this mind, one male and one female, neither were human in the slightest, both were very powerful. This was troubling to him, for he had not ever seen such a powerful individual before. Should she be hostile, she would be a great danger, but so far he could not discern any motive or goal in her. He tried to search more, to find more information about this strange yet powerful girl.
With lists, I'd like them to preserve line breaks between items. When you have lists containing a paragraph per bullet point, it becomes a wall of text pretty quickly. Walls of text are not the point of lists.
You know, Dream King could probably notice Emily's mind as she slept, and that'd tip her off about him, which then would lead her to go to the capital and gather information about him.
Maybe. She probably hasn't thought much about shielding her mind from psychic intrusion, and as she's in a nice, proper sleep she'd probably be subject to Reginaldus' powers. I'll put that into my next post.
Yus.
OK then. A secret police force for the Cypriots would be a little redundant, considering that Reginaldus is more than capable of assassination and reconnaissance throughout his entire kingdom without mortal agents to mess things up.
P.S. In updating the compendium, I just remembered that you have a Rogue Construct, Cav. Don't forget that, too (although meeting a Keeper may take some work).
P.P.S. Anyone know where 0011001 has gone?
> Have the chief of police deliver the weekly report before hurrying off to the donut convention.
This is literally what I did with Reginaldus (excluding the doughnuts).
Gecko, if this secret police idea is to do with the Cypriots, would you mind running it by me via PM first? You were on to something with the dream assassinating thing, but I'm still supposed to be in charge of the Cypriots, so at the very least I'd like to know what my own NPCs are doing.
This was not the post I was looking forwards to. I know you can do better than that. Even with the absence of a plan, it would still have been possible to write a more substantial entrance than a few simple lines. You've still got a character. Perhaps a bit of IC elaboration on your break-out from the icy hell- that would have taken at least a paragraph. Then Emily's feelings about returning to the surface. Then, when finding a place to sleep, you could possibly find somewhere marginally better to sleep than the exact point you appeared at, or at least provide some reason to just nodding off on the spot (eg. exhaustion from portal casting). That post could easily have been made more meaningful than just "hey, I'm here now. goodnight". She's free! She's got to feel something!
Ok, I know I said that even a half-sized post would do, but I was hoping for half a good post, not a half-hearted post. Do better in future, OK. Maybe even edit that first post into something up to standard.
But regardless, that's still a post. Go ahead and have your new creature, Cav. And where's Gecko and Kangutso? Kangutso's still figuring out his Keeper, but Gecko should be capable of posting.
If things don't pick up from here we might have problems.
