After all the recruitment papers are given in, everybody is asked to return to the booth the next day, where the recruiter will assemble squads.

-------The Next Day---------
Hunter stood in the huge crowd of people by the pier, once again examining the Fifth Echelon ships. The mercenaries were not given barracks big enough to use, so the majority of the ships weren't even docked at the pier, but anchored a bit farther away. The Fifth Echelon soldiers on those boats were leaning against the railing, looking at the new batch of mercenaries that are about to be recruited in.

A different recruiter, this one actually has an arm, stood up on a large wooden crate, holding a book of parchment in his hands.

“OKAY! Listen up you ugly bastards; I’m going to start listing the squads. The first person listed will be the Sergeant; he will receive the Fifth Echelon sigil pins that he must hand out to his squad. As I say your name, you come up to this side of the wooden crate, and meet with your Sergeant. Once I start naming another squad, I don’t want to see you by the wooden crate! We are leaving the city tonight, meaning we are meeting here in a bell (a bell is an hour, half a bell is thirty minutes, etc..) in order to get everyone on the ships.”

He starts listing the companies and squads, until he gets to…

“2nd LEGION, 5TH COMPANY, 9TH MARINE SQUAD! Sergeant of this squad will be Fyn Hunter”

Hunter shook his head as he began approaching the wooden crate. He gave up on leading men, never again does he want to live through seeing his men butchered.

“I’m sorry, I can’t take that title in the squad,” started Hunter as he got to the wooden crate.

“We don’t care what you think, SERGEANT, you are what we say you are. Its either that or I’m ripping this contract up…”

Hunter scratched his blonde beard. I need this contract… I don’t have enough coin to last for more than a week in this city. But Oponn’s luck, to be given a Marine squad… It seems like a fateful coincidence.

After some thought he quickly nodded his head and took the twelve sigils. Eleven crescents, and a twelfth crescent which was ‘thicker.’ Hunter assumes Fifth Elechon ranks go by how close the sigil is to a full moon, the fuller the moon the higher the rank of the officer. He clipped the thicker one onto the chest of his dark leather armor.

“NOW, YOUR SQUAD, 2nd LEGION, 5th COMPANY, 9th consists of the following soldiers - Merek Harclay, Zyre le Maitr, Iver Magsin, Jayda Wolf, Viktor, Sean Uidhir, Xavier Hawthorne, Tal Etai, Cynric, Ana Valerius, Acele Gvene”

Hunter took a look at the group of men and women making their way to the crate. Damn tough looking squad… For sure. Those two got the look of heavies… Oh and that one HAS to be a sapper, just look at her! She’s probably strapped with a cusser already.

The Sergeant accosted the squad as all eleven were at the crate.

“We have a bell until we have to be back here… You heard what the recruiter said, we can’t stand and loiter here, so let’s head to the tavern not far from here.”

_____________________________

The tavern keeper quickly cleared a large table for the marines, (although we have different roles in the squad, since we are a marine squad we can collectively be called marines) and per Hunter’s instruction brought in several huge jugs of ale. The sergeant put the eleven sigil pins on the middle of the table, only now noticing that some of them still had dried blood on them. These were definitely taken from the dead bodies from the last engagement the Fifth Echelon took part in…

“Hood’s arse… They could’ve at least washed them... Anyway, these are going to be your sigils, each one of you should pick one up.”

Hunter sat down at the head of the table, and looked at his squad one more time, left to right.

“I am Fyn Hunter. I’m guessing that’s Sergeant Hunter now. If you’re not happy about that, guess what? Neither am I.”

Hunter picked up one of the ale jugs and began pouring himself a hefty amount.

“ I fought in the Jadelyn War, was Captain in the Jadelyn 1st Army. To make the long story short, times change, coups take place, some woman decided she wants to be an Empress, and so now I’m sitting before you in this shitty establishment and half assed predicament. The 1st Army began this marine unit organization, and it’s something I have experience with. Let’s work together, cover each other backs, listen to my advice, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll all get out of this alive.”

The Sergeant picked up his mug of ale and began chugging it down, finishing the whole thing before looking back up at his squad.

“Now, how about each one you introduce themselves. Ya know, what you’re good at? Why you’re here? Who you are?”
I meant the out of character theme song :P

Obviously Rage Against the Machine would not be playing in Mirhandia.

But that's a pretty awesome song!
My computer keeps fricken crashing... So annoying.

Anyway, IC post will be up in an hour.

Also, I vote for this to be The Dark Company's theme song haha

Name: Fyn Hunter
Age: 58 (Looks 30 due to High Iskar treatment)
Sex: Male
Height: 6’3
Squad Role: Marine
Appearance:

Origin: Island of Talran, The Jadelyn Empire.
Background:
The Jadelyn Empire is a fairly new sovereignty, seeing as just 40 years before it was a collection of other kingdoms and nations. The Emperor Kinad, a native of Talran, with a set of loyal and skillful generals, admirals, and allies, as well as his right hand woman Valeria, set up an invasion into the mainland, creating what we now know as The Jadelyn Empire. He was the first person to come up with the Marine squad of sappers, marines, heavies, and squad mages that has become a popular novelty of the countries bordering the Empire. The only army that will come even close to mirroring the effectiveness of his marines would later be The Black Company.

Hunter was born on the swashbuckling island of Talran, home to many pirates, mercenaries, and other individuals of questionable worth. His father worked as a fisher while his mom held an apothecary shop in the city. After an uneventful young teenage life, Hunter yearned to make something of himself – to see more of the world. That is when the future Emperor, Kinad, with his Admiral and Generals began to gather the famous 1st Jadelyn Army. Hunter quickly enlisted, to the dismay of his parents, and set out with them on the invasion of the mainland.

Hunter served through the Tollusian campaign, fighting countless battles and finally claiming most of the mainland for The Jadelyn Empire. He soon became an expert of warfare, and became a strong advocate of the marine system. Reaching the rank of Captain quickly, and even becoming a stolid friend of the Emperor and his staff, Hunter continued onto the invasion force that will begin invading Gallaia and Koniria. This is when the Bloody Coup took place back at the Jadelyn Empire, when Valeria decided to usurp Kinad using her countless connections of assassins. After having disposed of the Emperor, Valeria wanted to make sure that any officers or politicians that were close to the Emperor, nicked the “Old Guard,” would disappear as well.

New generals were placed in the 1st Jadelyn Army, which was at that time in Koniria. During one engagement, Hunter and his company were sent into the fray with promise of reinforcements. Landing on a coastal city port, Hunter and his company disembarked the ships and charged into the Konirian 3rd Host, obviously outnumbered. They stood their ground for as long as they could, and Hunter will never forget the lives that were lost that day. Some of his closest friends, some of the veterans he served all his life with died a meaningless death. Promised reinforcements never came. As Hunter called the retreat order, the company began to fall back to the ships. This is when, by order of Empress Valeria, the ships left the port before any of the soldiers can make it back.

What happened next was a massacre. The Konirian were ruthless, as they should be defending their homeland. They wanted every one of the Jadenese soldiers dead.

Hunter was one of the few officers who were not killed, but instead wounded and captured. After being held in prison for several months, with the Jadelyn armies and fleets, battered and torn by the paranoid tendencies of Empress Valeria, embarking back to the Jadelyn Empire, Hunter was given a deal for his freedom. Teach the Konirian generals and armies this deadly style of war that the Jadelyn Empire wages, with the use of sappers and marines.

After spending a year in Koniria instructing the generals, Hunter left on friendly terms. Hunter then began traveling the world, taking small mercenary work where he can and trying to stay away from organized armies in the fear of what happened before. He is very unwilling to take any position of leadership, even with his superb set of skills for that, due to memories of comrades and soldiers that died serving under him.

There then came a time when fellow soldiers in a small mercenary unit tried to kill him on the outskirts of Tysea. With the blade aimed at him missing by merely an inch, Hunter quickly slayed the attacker, before turning to find three more quickly charging at him. Throwing down a smoker he saved for emergency occasions such as this, the Talranian took down the soldiers. He then found a contract, signed by the Empress Valeria, which promised property and coin for Hunter’s head.

Hunter cut off one of the assassin’s heads, beat it against rock to an unrecognizable shape, and then sent it to The Jadelyn Empire, with his old Jadelyn 1st army sigil, which he kept to that day, as fake proof of his death.

The Talranian veteran now finds himself at The Alabaster City, finally safe from the Empress’s assassins, and signs up for the Fifth Echelon in hope of coin, and the chance to exact revenge upon the Empress.

Skills:
- Remarkable swordsmanship skills that have been honed by decades of battle. A brutal, vicious, style that focuses on staying alive and decapitating the opponent.
- Exceptional good shot with the crossbow, having practiced and used it in the Jadelyn Empire for so many years.
- Leadership and knowledge of the strength, weaknesses, and techniques that can be employed by the diverse Marine squads.
- Knowledge of the world, both the geographical and cultural aspects of it, as well as knowing the functions and lore of all the warrens and gods.

Reason for joining the Fifth Echelon: Coin and revenge.

And thus I bring into life our second heavy. I am sure the mages should be happy now.Name: Xavier HawthorneAge: 32Sex: MaleHeight:6'4"Squad Role: HeavyAppearance:Origin: SurraBackground:Xavier's life wasn't an easy one in the town of Banth. His father crafted weapons and armors for warriors and inducted his son into the buisness early. By the time that Xavier was sixteen, he had been taught how to forge weapons ranging from a simple iron dagger to an iron zweihander. Yet, Xavier felt the call of adventure and asked his father if he could leave to see other kingdoms. When Xavier's father told him no, Xavier took flight with a bundle of equipment his father had crafted. Life steadily became worse for Xavier as he traveled from Banth to Gond, the capital city of Gond. When the battered, beaten and almost starving Xavier arrived in Gond, he was faced with a lack of food and housing. The streets of Gond were not a kind place for the young male. The rare hand outs and odd jobs that Xavier worked barely allowed him to pay for food. Xavier finally managed to find a job as a guard. Xavier went through a month worth of training before he was allowed to even guard the walls of Gond. Xavier faced little battle and did nothing more than arrest the occasional theif. He advanced slowly through the ranks of the guards until he reached the position of sergeant. After reaching the rank of sergeant, Xavier faced heavy prosecution for being an outsider. There was a time when Xavier was charged with assault while arresting a man who caused a bar fight, the punishment was a brand put on his left hand. The distictive brand forever marked Xavier as a criminal and forced him out of Gond with nothing more than a few pieces of silver to his name and a set of armor and a long sword. The twenty-seven year old warrior wandered out of the enclosed lands of Gond and traveled through Tysus for a few years. Xavier was working as a salesword for anybody who would pay him the most. It was by fate that Xavier came to the Alabaster City. His last 'master' had payed him half the amount after hireing him and the last half was to be payed to him when he came to the Alabaster City. Yet, when Xavier showed up, the man who hired him had never shown up. It was just an accident when Xavier stumpled upong the Fifth Echelon's booth. Skills:-Xavier can craft and repair certain weapons and armors.-Xavier is somewhat good with a sword and shield-He is good at rating the quality of weapons and armor.Reason for joining the Fifth Echelon: Xavier joined the Fifth Echelon because he found its gurantee of payment agreeable. That and he wanted to find out more about other portions of the world.Other information:Xavier has wiwth him a simple shield and iron forged sword.

And so the 9th squad finds another one of its heavies, Xavier!

Accepted, will edit into current roster.

Sorry, gentlemen, had a pretty long night tonight. I believe there is one user who wanted to roll a sapper but did not get to post his character sheet up. Regardless, tomorrow the first IC post to start things off will be made.

New members and squad members can 'join in', being transferred from other squads or companies, but only until the first engagement. I am afraid that after the first major battle I will be unable to accept new members. Until a good opportunity arises, that is.

The Mods on the guild keep tabs on RP's that have been created. Ones that look like they could be particularly interesting/ thought out/ long term/ or just looks neat in general. Are put on the notable RP list for publicity and light recognition. There are also RP's that have lasted for long periods of time and even have the good luck to be able to celebrate Anniversaries.

Are you going to edit in the background of your character before I judge him, by the way?

That's pretty neat! Considering there are probably quite a few RPs that have already started and been successfully progressing!
I wonder... Can this be the work of our Meanas mage?
Oh crap, we did!
That's pretty badass considering we just started up a day ago!

God I'm excited to get this started, have been coming up with some great ass ideas!
