"You should have brought more of your atrocious militia to fight orcs." -Dirge, Page 1.
West Watch Tower

Draza's attempt to reveal Gustavo was an immediate and blatant success as sugary powder flooded the air, covering Gustavo's waist and chest as the stuffed Gahrul smacked into him and then fell lifelessly to the ground. Gustavo stood stunned for a moment in shock that his potent ability had just been countered by everyday cooking materials and a stuffed doll, then glared at Esyllt. "Clever..." He stated before spitting on the ground, pulling out both daggers he twirls them as he looks past Esyllt to Draza. The tension in his shoulders eased somewhat. "I'm not sure if I should be amused or impressed." He mutters, seemingly to himself, as the girl yells across the field to him. "IMPRESSED!"

Gustavo backs up from the duet and looks around the field. He didn't like what was going on, but couldn't retreat. He looks at the girl warily and shakes his head. Her response is to slip away from behind the megalith and dash across the field for Gustavo. A look of shock comes across his face as he bolts for her, meeting her halfway. Fafnir was only a few feet away on his left, and in front of him was where Esyllt had previously been standing (facing north), again only a few feet away. "Fine! We'll get the snacks together!" Gustavo could be seen visible trembling with rage, but there was nothing else he could do.

Maeven Lucre's attack against the succubus succeeded. At point blank range with a pistol, there was no such thing as dodging, nor could the succubi predict it, and so, the succubi took the bullet right between the eyes and fell backwards, dead. Just as it almost seemed like time for celebration, Fafnir's eyes would dim, and the machine's gears would cease to crank. The damage was too extensive, Fafnir would require repairs before he would be functioning again, though being a machine, death was only temporary so long as the core remained intact, and it did.

The rightmost skeleton fell immediately afterwards as Aëyr's rock finds its mark and hits it dead on. There was no chance of it being particularly useful anyway, seeing as how it seemed to be waiting for orders that were never given. The one on the left, meanwhile, attempts to block Abida's attack. Her mighty swing and elven heritage however is more than enough to cleave straight through the bones of the skeleton, chopping it cleanly in two, its bones scattering across the ground. Naream's two handed minion reaches the succubi and finishes it off, decapitating it and letting the head roll across the ground.

This left only the giant hooved demon. Which naturally responded with a loud roar and a charge: Towards Esyllt, Naream, and Draza. It was still slow enough however that even with the charge on its side, they could evade the attack in time. This time...

Zayn's attempt to fall back from danger was naturally successful as Dirge simply let him go without a fight, then inspected the bomb. Dirge whispered something unintelligible in Orcish, though the tone suggested a mixture of warning and gratitude. At this point as Zayn headed for town he had multiple options. He could move towards the lake where the Queens were last located, and from the looks of things, there was smoke coming from that direction. He could also head to the western side, central, or towards the Inn. Wherever he thought himself most useful.

Alicia Le’roux's attacks turn out fruitless as the half-orc steps back, and suddenly, without warning, flees back to Dirge's side. Dirge, in turn, was swinging a killing blow at Dread Fang, who had not moved since sustaining his significant injury. In one fell swoop, Alicia could see the thick, green-black blood intermix with the red blood on the end of the warhammer before he glared in her direction, and whispered telepathically to her. "Flee with your friend, the bomb is ruined, else I should kill you as well."
Town Square

Rayvon's quip with Jeremy lasted almost half a minute as Laenaia used her magic, Andrea healed herself and fed Wayne, and Ceann found and knocked her fire arrow. As Rayvon stepped aside to allow Ceann's shot clean access, Jeremy steps aside and lets it fly past his head. He had learned quickly from the first arrow to anticipate the second, but as he took a step towards Ceann, he caught the sight of his dead lover moving out of the corner of his eye. He hesitates, in time for Rayvon to easily attack and put him on the defensive as he summoned a shadowy mace, attempting to hold back Rayvon's counter-attack which was preventing him access to Ceann.

Ceann would notice from repeated attacks that Jeremy's entire method of approaching threats was to deal with them one by one. If he could be pinned down and attacked on multiple fronts, he wouldn't likely know how to deal with that...

Andrea's attempt to feed Wayne succeeded as he drank the blood from her hand greedily, a few seconds passed before his vocal chords had managed to regenerate enough to allow him hoarse speech. "Thank... You..." He manages to state, his voice sounding incomplete and unstable. Her self healing was also fairly effective, it closed the wounds but it didn't completely heal away the damage to her movement and breathing. Those would take more time and effort in a safer location than a battlefield.

Thailen would notice the crystals start to glow, the comical timer fade the numbers away, almost as if to tease her with not knowing how much time she had left. The crystals glowed further, and almost started to pulse. It seemed the explosive would go off very shortly if she did nothing, and so, she acted. Pulling the red crystal out first, the other two dimmed somewhat. The explosion would at least be contained if she was wrong, at least, according to James' message. With a sigh of relief, she pulls the purple crystal out.

The bomb explodes, sending chunks of stone and several metallic and crystalline shards hurtling in every direction. Smoke and dirt was immediately flung up into the air, and without any ability to scream in pain, several shards rip right through the valiant woman. One could almost swear they spotted a small smile on her lips before a metallic piece from the bomb's counter pierced and destroyed her lips, shunted itself through the top of her mouth, through her brain, and out the back end of her skull. She died near-instantly as her barely recognizable corpse falls back onto the stone behind her.

Andrea would feel herself pulled down onto the stone by Wayne, followed up with him covering her the moment Thailen had pulled the second crystal from the bomb. Two shards embed themselves into him, one large shard through his chest, punching through his left lung and a little ways out of his chest, the other embedding itself in his left leg. He saved her life.

Ceann would feel a large slab of stone slam into her side, knocking her off her feet and fracturing one of her hip bones. She would find herself unable to stand, but the wound could be mended.

Rayvon would have an unusual moment of deftness as she glanced back at the bomb, seeing a chunk of stone hurtling for her head she ducks just in time to see Jeremy's shocked face get hit with it. As it was hurtling at several dozen miles per hour and was a thick enough slab to be about the size of the chest of a grizzly bear, it simply took Jeremy's head clean off and kept going until it slammed into a house just behind him.

Lanaia, Mars, and Zin, by statistical miracle, would find themselves fairly untouched by anything significant. Instead, they were showered in the blood of their previous comrade, who had shielded them from the bomb the moment she noticed she had chosen incorrectly.

Altogether, a bitter end, though the only remaining foe--the spider under Andrea's control--had been hit with several pieces of debris. What shambles remained of its once noble skull were strewn across the dirt for several feet in the opposite direction of where the bomb used to be. The fountain as well, had been completely destroyed, leaving a small crater where it used to be. Dirt and dust choked the air, leaving nothing but the scent of fire and death around them.

Still, as civilians peeked out of the Inn to see what happened, they cheered for their brave heroes and heroines. None of them were harmed, and the damage to the surrounding buildings was minimal in comparison to what it could have been.
Raven's Inn

Maher and Nadira's ball of water comes hurtling from the sky towards the sabre tooth cat. As it was focused on Muderok and Gryff, who were both quite threatening, it was immediately surprised and doused. Falling onto its belly, Murderok and Gryff both successfully reach it, along with Mikan who had caught up with them at an eerily fast pace. The three of them pin it down successfully, allowing Aslo to come from the side and slice open its leg in as minimalistic a way as possible. Poison seeped into the open wound, and the cat became sluggish, but still awake. Still, with one person holding him, he shouldn't go anywhere at this point. Mikan sighs in relief and then looks closer at the fur of the sabre tooth cat. Brushing her hand through the fur of its back she grabbed something glinting deep within its thick fur and pulled it out. A key! So it seemed that if they had tried to just avoid it, they would not have succeeded after all.

"Ha!" Mikan says with a smug grin. "I knew all of you big, handsome men wouldn't disappoint me." She says with a flirtatious giggle and a wink to Aslo, Murderok, and Gryff. She then looks back at the Adonai twins. "You two should get up to the top of the tower, quick, and get what's inside the chest. We need to move as fast as we can." She says softly as she tosses them the key. "I knew your mentor. If you're anything like her, you can easily deal with it... Just hope there's no spiders." She adds with a playful tone in her voice. Even with a giant saber tooth cat right there, she felt little in the way of fear. She then looks at Gryff and Murderok. "You two might want to go with them... Just to be sure. I can hold the cat down with Aslo here."

I started watching at half-time. Fuck's sakes. ;-; As much as I pity myself for missing the incredible-sounding first half, I pity the Brazilians more. Some of their careers will never recover from this, and despite reaching the semi-final their entire country is going to hate them. Poor bastards. I'm actually pretty angry at the Germans - there's securing your victory, and then there's deliberately humiliating an opponent and kicking them while they're down.

In all seriousness: This is the highest level of competition there is in a world sport. You don't take any risks or show any mercy. If you can utterly crush your opponent's spirits, you do it.

Apparently, that guy has gone to every single world cup he has been able to since he was born, carrying that trophy with him.

This could be his last one judging from his age. And they lose this disgracefully.

I don't know whether to pity him or laugh at just how easily statistics can make random acts of fuck you a daily occurrence. Oh well. Good game Germany, you've come so close four times, bloody well should win it by now already.
Quick update on the Icarus is missing situation.

6:45 AM - Orion: Storm sent a nice sized (read: house sized) tree into the power lines, tore up the earth, and burst a water line.

He might be away for a while. Post as though he's on vacation. A prolonged vacation. Where he's on an abandoned island. Waiting for someone to see his S.O.S. on the beaches.

Anyway.

@Everyone: Post delayed due to still recovering from the breakdown I had earlier. Brain still isn't all there. Still, I got a post finished for The Library on Monday, so I can get a post for this RP in by Wednesday morning.

For those in TLB, yes, this means the IC post for that will probably get pushed back to Thursday. It gives time for Alphakoka to catch up anyway...

What are you even talking about? This makes literally zero sense. And your math is awful. You should calculate how much energy is released by the moon's shadow on the sun and compare that to what the moon recieves.

A shadow is an area where direct light from a light source cannot reach due to obstruction by an object.

I have a reply typed up, but what material are you proposing could be used to 'stop' a laser beam? What 'part' of the laser are you going to use to achieve this effect?

... The same material used to build-up, contain, and fire the energy the laser uses. Again, laser = pure energy. Presumable, you made your firing apparatus out of a physical material of some sort, lets say, it's made out of Unobtanium. If Unobtanium can contain and propel the energy at its maximum potential speed towards a target for the entire duration of firing, than that very same Unobtanium can be used to stop and dissipate that very same laser as it reaches its destination, especially seeing as how, even if it does manage to reach its target, the amount of energy that it had at firing point will be lesser than the energy it has upon striking a target, due to energy dissipating into the area around it as it travels from firing point to impact point.

That's about as clear as I can make it. Whatever material you would use to contain and fire the laser, which is pure energy, would be the same material you could use to completely stop that very same laser.

Also, yes, I'm aware a laser moves at the speed of light, but even an inter-system engagement at light speed would take minutes for projectiles and such to go from point A to point B. It takes 7-8 minutes for light from the Sun to reach the Earth. Every second the laser took to reach its target, it would be losing energy to its surrounding area. Most space engagements however would occur at ranges vastly greater than even this, due to the fact that there is no such thing as a maximum sight range in space. (Save this: That even light will dissipate into virtual nothingness after it travels beyond a certain threshold. Thus why seeing the most distant stars requires a telescope to detect finer and finer details of light. It's part of why the universe is cycling down into decay: Because the universe is always expanding, but the amount of energy within the universe is not, energy is spreading further out. Like butter over too much toast.)

Hmm...

EDIT

@ASTA: To better clarify what I mean by energy dissipation, since you might think I'm meaning momentum, when I'm not. A laser is a heated beam of light, and the heat is where it gets the majority (if not entirety) of its destructive power, no? Heat dissipates in space, however. What better example to use of this than the moon orbiting the Earth, which has no atmosphere to stop the heat of the sun, and of course the sun, which is immensely stupidly hot.

The average temperature of the sunny side of the moon? 100 Celsius. The average temperature of the surface of the sun? 5,500 degrees celcius. Ish. (Depending on whether you would call the Photosphere or Chromosphere the true "surface" of the sun, seeing as how it is a giant ball of hydrogen and plasma.)

Thus, we can calculate just how much heat energy reaches the surface of the moon by taking the temperature of the sunny side of the moon and dividing it by the approximate surface temperature of the sun.

1.8%. Well. That's pretty terrible. Perfect for maintaining life on Earth, granted, when you factor in our atmosphere that retains heat, and geothermal production of heat that filters up through the crust to the surface of the planet, and so on... But... Yeah. Your space laser is going to be pretty pitiful by the time it hits anyone unless you can quite literally see the enemy with your naked eye.
Daniel does not want this. That is all.

Also, moved into my new place and every-thang. Meaning less random vanishing acts! Whoo~
Rendezvous Crash

"My father is a rather busy man..." Bishop remarks softly, recalling back to his capture. Even now he was being held by the Library. Even now, he was likely being interrogated. Or used. Such genius untapped would be such a shame! Quickly dismissing such a thought from Jester, she continues. "...And he does not always have time to tell me what he is thinking. Even in his letters he laments this." It was true, so it was easy to make it work into the web she was crafting. "My father is traveling to meet other potential rebels who have anti-librarian motivations. The more we can throw in their way, the better." She looks at the birds. "...Where did you get all of these? Some of these do not even belong anywhere near this area. They are quite pretty."

“Ah,” Giovani delighted. “They are my pride and joy. A collection like this is impressive, is it not, miss Bishop?”The don was clearly proud of all the animals he had surrounded himself with, and even seemed quite cocky about it too. “It is not many that have both the access and the… Budget, to construct something this magnificent. Why, you can’t find most of these on the market. Feel free to admire them. Perhaps, if we do business, you could afford to have some of your own.”

“Only some? Hmm…” McKenzi ponders aloud, her mind racing. She wasn’t sure how to proceed from here, and confusion momentarily spilled out into her expression. “Mister Giovani…” She starts as she turns and looks at him. “...What was the last thing my father said about me here?” She implied her own ambitions in that statement, though, curiously, even now, a hint of softness in the tone came through with such a question.

Giovani’s smile faded as he recalled Alexander’s words. “He was not sure if you would be joining us. I recall you worked for the Library up until recently, and he hadn’t time to discuss your, loyalties, as we call it in Calacany.” The pudgy man explained, “Although as you stand here, I assume that is the case...”

There was a short silence, if one didn’t counted the shifting of the birds that Vologhn’s threads had unnerved, before the don continued. “Speaking of your father, I had expected him in your stead. Where is Alex, presently? Will he be joining us?”

“My father will be here shortly, in an hour at the most.” Bishop states, a full out lie this time. Careful, he already suspects much. One does not get as large as him without being paranoid of everyone. “We went off ahead while he spoke with the rebels I mentioned earlier. If he is any further behind than that I will go find him myself and bring whatever message you wish. I’m confident that he will be fine, but…” She bites her lip. “Sigmund, one of my associates from the Library, took it… Personally that I found such a place to be… Restricting. He has been pursuing us, and by association, you. That is what I came to warn you about.” Not bad, but a little dramatic… Guess your father was a little dramatic too, though. “...As for what, exactly, my father wishes… I do not know for certain here. He was to introduce me to all of this when he arrived as a sort of… Welcoming, into the family again.”

“Associate?” Giovani pondered, his thick fingers tapping his chair. “This isn’t exactly the town where strangers are invisible. I’m sure you noticed, miss Bishop. I expect to hear of Alex soon as well on that note, but I hope that your… Associate won’t cause for any trouble… I hope you’ve not brought trouble onto my turf… I don’t need to tell you it’s important as few people know as possible. Trust is important in our business.”

“Of course.” Bishop states plainly. “Which is why you may call me McKenzi.” She offers her hand for a handshake one more time. “And I hope we come to know each other better in the future.”

The don studies Bishop’s expression carefully, but slowly extends his hand to hers. “You’re quite different from your father, McKenzi. He criticized me for addressing him by name, and doesn’t have the faintest interest in my birds. I’m guessing that is your mother’s inheritance?”

She hesitates a moment at the mention of her mother. Jester snickers and grins, taking the shape of a poor old woman in robes with a cane, hunched over behind the don. He whispers to the entire group once more, almost as though wanting the rest to know the frustrations he puts Bishop through. Aahhh… Dearie dearest daughter, deadly doom-bringing dealings done, yessss? McKenzi looks at the ground, her plan stopped momentarily as the handshake ends. “She died in childbirth.” She states plainly, coldly, much more like her father.

“Tragic, I’m sure.” Giovani replied, although his mind seemed a little off. “Now,” He said, as he lifted himself from his chair. Before leaving, the don drew open a drawer and took out a bottle of wine and some glasses. “Help yourself and your associates. You must excuse me, I must use the restroom.”

And with that the Don left the room, giving the librarians ample time to plan their next move...

Hive of Minds

As Deneaerys made her comment about fire and needing a clear shot, Daniel scratched his chin and nodded, his eyes flitting about the area in thought. He didn't respond to that just then, he had ideas, now, though. "Please tell me you aren't going to light my precious crossbow bolts on fire, cousin." His uncle asked him. Daniel shrugged nonchalantly, adding nothing but further worry for him.

Hertz' lack of courage was nothing new of common people. They tended not to know how to deal with problems larger than themselves and thus did the natural thing: Flee. Daniel had nothing against that, it was the smart thing to do. After all, who would hate someone just trying to survive if they have nothing to add to the fight? As he received the book from Hertz he quickly flipped through the pages, combing each one for any useful information he could find when they began to travel into the forest. He had lowered his guard while doing this, unwise, a rookie mistake even. Still. The potential for a not-fire-related plan did intrigue him, and he nodded in agreement. "I will listen, but if I feel fire is the only option, I will use it. Nice as this forest is, these monsters are a threat that must be eliminated before they spread further than they already have."

Still. Their traveling came to an abrupt halt as the Sloth appeared, infested in such a way as to remind him of the many, many other times he had to face insect-sized bastards. He was not equipped to deal with them this time, however. He should have thought of that one too. With a frown he glances to Julius quickly, who held Whiskers the skull in his hand. "Whiskers recommends a tactical advance in the opposite direction. I agree with his recommendation!" Daniel nods in agreement, though looks to Ramza. They had just wasted one of their three jars of potential bait on a single target. On the other hand, Ramza's wings made for an effective anti-parasite defense. Commendable. More useful than he was at this moment.

"Alright." Daniel mutters under his breath as he immediately runs away from the parasites, behind Ramza, to the nearest dead tree with a low lying branch. Summoning Război Ciocan with its long reach and solid grip he swings and breaks the lowest branch off by its base, grabbing it as it falls he then turns on his heels and brushes the end of it against Ramza's wings, lighting the end of it aflame. Using it as one would a spear, he shoves it out towards the parasites. Small insects, slower than him, would be vulnerable to fire. "RAMZA! Try to avoid using valuable resources! They are small, slower than us, we can use fire to defeat a swarm this small!" He then looks at Rugratz. "What is your plan?" He asks more softly, attempting to understand what it was that Ramza had in mind, but not being able to discern it from what little he could see.
*$2K+: PC>PS4=XBox One>Wii-U.
$1K+: PC>PS4=XBox One>Wii-U.
$500: PS4=XBox One>Wii-U>PC.
$250-: Wii-U>PS4=XBox One>PC.

Technical Specs: The greater the budget you have, the greater the things a PC can do in comparison to the three console options. At $1,000 or more, consider a PC. At less than $800, take a console. It's simply going to be superior to any PC you can pick up due to the hardware being streamlined for that task, whereas a PC needs to be able to do a lot of things, not just gaming, so hardware is not streamlined for that.

Between the PS4 and XBox One, the PS4 has superior hardware, but not by any significant margin. I'd tend to edge it out for the PS4 though simply by virtue of the fact that the PS4 can do 1080P and stream that to appropriately configured handheld devices so long as your wireless router is powerful enough to handle it, meaning you can play 1080P games anywhere in your house. Whereas the XBox One struggles to output 720P. In comparison, the XBox 360 was also capable of 1080P, so was the PS3. So you're going to pay more money for a downgrade in visual fidelity?... Graphically however, it is obviously superior to its previous generation cousin, and most games released on the 360 were in 720P anyway, so... Not much lost here in the immediate, but later on in its shelf life, it will be noticeable.

Then we have the Wii U. It's cute and cheap and if you really love Nintendo products such as Mario and Zelda, go nab it. The controller it has is pretty gimmicky but does the whole wireless screen thing better than Sony does. Also, if you have a family or multiple users of the TV, it's a neat feature to have that if someone wants to watch a TV show, you can just bugger off and keep playing whatever it was you were playing. Otherwise? XBox One and PS4 most blatantly and obviously overpower this little box.

Games: PC has the largest selection, and always will, but again, if you have a limited budget for hardware, you'll have a limited selection of current-gen games that will run on your machine.

However, I do have to give the PC one additional point above its competitors: Mods.

PS4 and XBox One are absolutely equal in this regard and it's entirely personal taste which one you prefer. The only note I'd keep in mind is any game that requires an online connection to play, may become irrelevant and unplayable if the servers related to that game ever shut down. So be warned.

As for Nintendo? Well, do you like Mario? Zelda? Go for it. If you don't, avoid it. Kind of how this game works.

Usability**: PC loses this category every time. If you don't understand how things work on a PC you will hit so many barriers, and the footnote above about mods? Well, good luck with that. If you take the time to learn how everything works to a rudimentary degree you're rewarded for it, but some don't want to, and some don't have the time, so. The only area the PC wins is in restrictions. If a game is heavily restricted, you just go to one of the tens of thousands of other games that aren't and play that instead. Or you play Pirates! Yarr.

XBox One and PS4 generally tie here again. Where the XBox One would ordinarily win due to its social features and TV stuff, because that is neato burrito and after a while using it would be as mundane a task as breathing, the XBox One has the stench of Microsoft's attempts to control everything about it, including extensive console-side DRM and always online policies for various games. The initial reveal of the product even had downright draconian security policies involved, several of which have been repealed over time due to vitriolic gamer rage.

Yes I know you didn't want me to mention that whole "the Kinect watches you sleep" thing, but well... It fucking watches you sleep bro! If you don't mind that though then no harm done.

I'm not sure how well the Wii U runs for user friendliness in general. I'd imagine though that if it holds to the same general line of thought that Nintendo's held to for several years now, it's probably winning the #1 spot by virtue of just letting you play a game when you put the game in the console, and not checking online to see if it's a valid copy, or downloading ten billion patches, or telling you your drivers are out of date and it needs to install more of them, and so on.

Overall: Consoles are still a fine choice and PC master race people are tards. Yes, the PC is superior in a lot of ways... When one has a budget to build a proper PC that will actually last more than six months. If one is operating on a limited budget, like, 800 bucks, or less even, a console is a superior choice, because you will get more bang for your buck at that point.

The PS4 and XBox One are both decent choices, but I'd wait for the price to drop down on the latter before going for it, since the 360 has superior visual fidelity anyway, and a lot of games are being released for both the One and 360, there's no rhyme or reason to grab the XBox One just yet.

The Wii U is the Wii U. It's Nintendo. Love them or hate them all the same it's the same damn routine for the past 20-30 years. Totally up to you if you jump for it or don't.

*All arranged by budget. Ignoring personal preferences or favourites, and focusing exclusively on technical performance, and general selection of hardware extensions, customer support, game selection and variety, etc.

**User friendliness, in general. How easy is it to just pick up a game and play? Restrictions on the console, games, and other such things.
