Bruce watched the once jovial banter devolve into a fierce argument, internally torn about whether or not to step in. Ultimately he elected not to, though he was also among a very select few who didn't shrink away from the pair when things got heated and Luke attacked the table. Both he and Jenso had clearly set one another off, and both were too furious in the moment to consider the extent of feelings present in the other. Bruce didn't speak and kept himself from staring, instead trying to savor his drink. He glanced to the side when Jenso let his coins scatter across the bar counter top.
"We're leaving."
Bruce didn't answer right away. Instead he kept sipping on his drink. He didn't much feel like rushing through what remained.
"I'll show you the way in a moment," he said, keeping his voice even. "Nothing good comes of forcing things for the sake of impatience."
Bruce watched the levity that, for once, wasn't forced and ran abound in the paradise, nursing his own drink. He'd forgone the ale and beer that was being passed around, preferring something stronger. He had another concoction of his own, something of cola and whiskey, using the same size mug of everyone else. He had a pleasant buzz that still didn't hinder his enjoyment of the occasion, and the divers seemed to have warmed to Jenso, which he liked. He smiled at the ease of interaction between Luke and Jenso.
Bruce stared at the pathetic form of the creature, still moving despite lacking any power. He glanced at Jenso. Despite having just met him, Bruce knew he would struggle to finish the job. Even if it was, in the end, more merciful. Without any ceremony or words, he brought down his mace on the final core, watching the creature's frail remnants of life vanish. The weapon dissipated, and he let out a breath.
"We should head back." he said without looking at Jenso.
Trusting in Jenso's abilities, Bruce ignored the oncoming tail and instead leapt for Serpa-Mon's head, heaving his mace above his head and aiming to smash it down onto the core in its right eye.
Bruce let the arm with his mace fall, sprinting and weaving through the falling cascade of magma to join Jenso on Serpa-Mon's right side. He leaned at one point while he ran, skirting his fingertips against the floor, his brow creased in concentration. He created a barricade that shot up between the oncoming tail and Jenso, outfitted with long spikes facing the appendage, hoping the creature would get caught on them and leave a chance for a new attack.
Bruce narrowly avoided the magma droplets with a sideways roll, stopping in a crouch and touching his hand to the floor. He took a breath, and produced another jagged boulder that he could carry in one hand, sprinting toward Jenso and the creature's head with his mace lagging behind him. Once Jenso's fireballs made impact with the floor, he lobbed the boulder at Serpa-Mon from the left side, hoping it would turn its head and expose the spot on its right where he'd managed to make a crack earlier. He hefted his mace back over his shoulder, ready to swing it down if the diversion worked.
Bruce jumped back toward the opposing wall to avoid the new assault by Serpa-Mon, touching the material of it with his fingers and breaking it down into a massive pile of sand. He redirected it toward the creature's open mouth, hoping to stall it for a few moments while he released a bit more ki. He let his energy take the shape of a new weapon, an oversized mace. It had less polish and its form sparked with less efficient control of ki, but it would suffice.
Mirroring Jenso's movement, Bruce shifted the material of the slab he'd touched into a jagged, sharp boulder, hurling it toward the creature's right eye and sprinting in the opposite direction of Jenso to avoid its teeth. He let out a bit of his ki, ready to form a weapon if the creature chose to come after him.
Bruce muttered to himself about the bridge, leaping backward to avoid the falling slabs. He reached out to touch one as soon as it cracked against the floor, ready to reform it into another platform in case they lost their remaining foothold. He eyed the mass that slowly rose up out of the lava.
Bruce considered the offer. He'd never allowed himself to get too personally attached anywhere or to anyone until he'd met Luke. Jenso was quickly working his way into the ranks of people he'd consider a friend. And as much as Bruce appreciated what Luke did and the way he included him, he knew he wasn't a diver the way the other renegades were. Being a nomad came too naturally for him. A guild would let him have something like a community of his own peers again, or as close as he could imagine. His lips quirked up in a smile.
"I'll think about it," he said. "I might like that."
