Ah, yes. That is why we travel in packs. It is always a group, no one is ever left alone, boys and girls are usually separated unless we're doing something special. You aren't allowed to start a conversation without staff there. We're pretty strict, but we manage to have fun.

It isn't really about 'Yay! I'm going to summer camp! First kiss, dances, bikinis, so on and so forth.' It is more of a, 'Hello kids, this summer camp is to limit the possibility of you getting back on drugs. Thank you, today the boys have the lake and the craft station. Girl's have the rec center and at two you'll switch. Have fun.'

How many knives? Last time I went to one of those, they took all five of mines. They even took my pen too.

We classify illegal as; wire, rope, drugs(this includes air fresheners, bug spray, some lotions, real drugs of course, and basically anything that can be snorted or smoked. They aren't allowed to pee in the bathroom without staff, because you can snort concentrated urine or something complicated like that) any possible item that you can use to hang or inflict self pain with, and that means we give them razors during shower time.

We were faced with two switchblades and a hidden razor on one boy, a few ink pens and a pocket knife on the other, and lastly a boy that carried three pocket knives, and a razor, the girls were mostly ropes and drugs. We had to confiscate tools and strings for friendship bracelets.

Luckily, we confiscate all 'illegal' items before they step out of the bus. Only three boys had knives. It scared the crap out of me all the same.

I'm actually(drum roll please) working for a summer camp that harbors troubled and special youth! (It's really fun actually, just rough) I'm a counselor and I work for the kitchen, and I run a cabin.
