Maia stopped after they had reached the stairs at the end of the hallway. " That man, whatever he wants - he killed a security guard, and I don't think he'll shy away from doing it again." Her voice was surprisingly calm, considering she was still trembling. " We can't help Kirin right now. There is another staircase in the opposite direction, maybe he made it outside."
I doubt that he'd kill us all at once. However my point was that too much powerplay at once could affect the story... Then again, I'm inexperienced in roleplaying, so I don't really know what is allowed and what is not.
Well, I could be wrong but my guess is that our characters weren't supposed to escape that guy or to beat him up with a fire extinguisher. It takes time to get back to the plot with a Plan B if Plan A has been broken.
Understandable, take your time. Real life is more important.
Almost got it - Maia was only one foot away from the man and had already reached out her hand for the cables, when the shattering of glass made her flinch. She backed off when she heard the boys' orders and started running, following Katy.
Maia had kept some distance between herself and the man, but the fact that he hadn't sensed her yet let her approach a little more, close enough to recognize the hostage. It was Katy Dixon, a girl she had classes with. She couldn't do anything for her currently but perhaps if she - May didn't have time to end the thought because the man had suddenly stopped, and she had realized that she came closer than she had wanted. She investigated the devices the man was carrying. She didn't know what the helmet did, but the purpose of the gauntlet was clear for her. There were wires protruding from it - Perhaps if I pull them out. There seems to be nothing supernatural on him, he is just a human being, armed with futuristic gadgets. No, her hands were too shaky, she would probably screw it up. May was still hesitating, when all in a sudden the door flew open and she saw Kirin and Alex standing next to each other. She watched the man as he was raising his arm again to - Don't let him kill them. An inner voice told her. You have to do something! May had taken the decision and sneaked up on the man who could kill people just with a motion of his hand.
Thanks :) Actually I was waiting for SeaFoamDaisies to post something, but considering that her character is rather immobile at the moment, I'll just go ahead and post something.
This must be a dream. Maias' heart was pounding hard and her weariness had suddenly vanished as she watched the mysterious figure proceed. Someone had been killed, in a way Maia could not have imagined. This was not one of her crime thrillers that she could lay aside whenever the tension became too much for her. This was reality. She couldn't escape it and the awareness made her legs feel wobbly. Nonetheless she tried to remain calm, following the man upstairs as silent as possible. What am I doing?
"This function is monotone -" Your voice is monotone... " - furthermore strictly increasing because - " Maia had stopped listening a while ago and had begun drawing stick figures on her notepad. Sitting next to the door she was a bit discontented because she couldn't look outside. There was no other subject May disliked more than maths. It was not because it was too complicated (she only failed a test once), but because Mrs. Torrance was the only teacher that had made Maia fall asleep during classes. History on the other hand was a subject where she excelled, her marks surpassed by none of her classmates. She wondered if Mr. Evans would be teaching them again this year - when she suddenly heard a hardly perceptible sound, coming from the hallway. It sounded strange, as if something heavy had been torn apart. May took a look at her fellow pupils, but none of them seemed to have noticed. Without reflecting on it Maia stood up. "Mrs. Torrance I don't feel so well, could I please go outside for a moment?" The old woman looked slightly bemused but she permitted it. "You don't look so well indeed. Get some fresh air, dear child. You are excused from this period." May thanked her. Then she left the room and started approaching the noise source.
Maia yawned. It was the first schoolday and yet she wished it was weekend again.
Her free time hadn't been exactly relaxing for her since she spent half of it in a small supermarket. Mr. White, her employer, was glad that she wouldn't go on a holiday trip like the rest of his workers. Maia wasn't.
Her back was still aching from carrying crates, as she dawdled on the way to her class room. At least she would work on the cash register again today... She only got a glimpse of the teacher, and barely recognised Alex as he ran past her. Should have bought a coffee, she thought while opening the classroom door.
