Malvvosia spun through the air dramatically and landed gently on a crenulation, the strength in her legs able to support her weight and absorb the force of the landing with such ease it appeared as though she was landing in slow motion. She cackled and leaped to another crenulation, her anticipation waiting for a possible fight had made her somewhat giddy and she had no qualms with others seeing it. Preparing to jump once more Malvvosia suddenly stopped and stood up straight, holding herself stiff but for the hand that held her gun which began to spasm and shake erratically.

At the same time, the hound turned his head, gaze fixing to a point far in the distance. Its nostrils flared, and a deep, rumbling growl reverberated from within its chest as it bared its teeth.

“Do you smell that Cerberus? Oooh, you simply must with a nose that big. It's on the wind, can you not smell it?” Malvvosia’s entire body began to shake, her smile grew massive and her human appearance began to undulate and ripple as she struggled to maintain the facade. Though she had described the sensation she felt as smell, in reality it was something no other being could experience in the same way as her. She could feel the rage inside all beings at all times, feel it as though it was a part of her being. ”Ohhh what rage this is, like a horde of insane men driven into a frenzy! It is thick in the air, like the al’mighty asshole himself poured syrup over the world. Can you smell it?!” A piercing cry echoed through the clearing, Malvvosia turned her head towards the sound a moment after the horde of demons broke from the forest and charged the wall. The gleeful demon cackled loudly as she observed the approach of the horde, more amused by the unnatural hunger and ravenousness of the group than concerned by it. “Look at them! Smell them! Oh the unfettered hunger, the rage! Let us take our fill of the battle my friend, and once the horde is suitably crushed we shall have to find who, or whatever, was able to do this so that I may shake their hand! If they even have a hand that is.” Malvvosia looked back over her shoulder at the massive dog behind her “Coming?” The question was asked with the lighthearted unconcern normally reserved for requesting to walk to the store, or through a peaceful park.

The threat in the dog’s stance stood in deep contrast to the demoness’s casual tone. It could even be said to be excessive for the opposition they faced. Which made his next question seem even stranger. “You claimed you wished to protect these humans?”

A rare moment of seriousness took over Malvvosia and she turned away from the approaching danger to properly face her ally. “Yes,” was all she said in response to the beast.

The demon huffed. “Then I shall leave you to that,” he said, a moment before leaping off the ramparts towards the charging enemy.

It took a moment for Malvvosia to realize the implications of the demon hounds words, that he would not be joining her in the fight. Excited as she was at the fight she was moments away from partaking in, she still held off long enough to call after the charging beast “And just where do you think you’re going, Cerberus?!”

Had she called out after another, the words may have been lost in the wind, but the dog had sharp ears. When the question reached them, the beast let out a bark of laughter. “Is it not obvious, Crone?” He roared.

To shake hands!”

Unbeknownst to Malvvosia, the hound had recently found himself in a similar situation during the battle for the previous seal, charging heedless into a demonic mob in search of one of the keys that would lead to their goal. While back then some of the demons had had enough sense in them to scramble out of the way, the horde racing towards the city was madenned beyond fear. In that last outing, however, the hound himself had been under orders to keep his fire in check.

No such command had been given to him this time.

Before crashing into the vanguard, the beast drew breath, the space between his scales emitting a threatening glow. A torrent of fire erupted from the hound’s maw, swallowing the demons in front of him even as he charged headlong into the enemy.

And then he was in the midst of the horde. Those engulfed by the flame shrieked, too blind by either the pain or the light to do more than be trampled underfoot. A few others parted from his path, a primal instinct directing them away from the tongue of fire. Most simply leapt forward at the hound’s passing in an attempt to clamber on to him.

Those who managed to find purchase on his hide soon found their grasping limbs bursting into flames, the heat emanating from the scales searing the unprotected flesh until they slipped off. Those who stubbornly held on even then screamed as scalding metal chains wrapped around their bodies, carelessly tossing them at the surrounding mob. And still the hound spewed fire to clear the path before it.

He had almost cleared the mob when the gout of flame sputtered. The final ranks of creatures contracted in a last-ditch effort to contain the giant that had plunged into their midst, but at the last moment, the hound leapt into the air, prodigious strength carrying his large body well past the remaining rearguard.

A few loping strides further, and he disappeared into the treeline with a crunch of splintering wood.

As for the horde of berserk demons, those simply surged forwards, their numbers closing and trampling over the wounded in their rush to reach the walls. Soon, the only visible remainder of the hound’s incursion was a streak of charred and broken bodies left forgotten in the mob’s advance.

Malvvosia leapt from atop the wall and plummeted towards the ground, her form changing along the way while she fired her gun into the charging horde. Once her clawed feet hit the ground she immediately pushed off, aiming herself towards her prey. As she soared across the ground she saw a large boulder ahead of her she was about to pass and had a sudden burst of inspiration. Her whip manifested in her hand and as she passed the large rock her whip came alive and coiled itself around it. Malvvosia continued to travel a little longer, her unnatural whip growing in length all the while. When she began to lose momentum from her initial push off she slammed her feet into the ground and heaved with her whp arm, adding the last remnants of her momentum into her swing. The large boulder popped free of the earth creating a shower of dirt and pebbles. It arked through the air with great speed, flying past the demoness that had freed it and through several dozen members of the ravenousness horde before returning to its place in the ground. Taking advantage of the path she had just cleared Malvvosia pushed off from the ground again and landed upon the boulder, now in the middle of the enraged army.

Being the closest target now that Fenn had left the area the majority of demons turned inwards and rushed towards the demoness, clawing and climbing over each other in an attempt to be the first to sink their teeth into the shadowy form of their foe. Rather pleased with the whole situation Malvvosia put her gun away, deciding that matters required a hands on approach. With one clawed hand balled into a tight fist, and the other hand tightly gripping her whip, the demoness wadded into the fight. Each punch that landed would shatter bones (if the thing being hit even had any that is) and send the crippled corpse flying backwards or into the air. As she attacked she also kept moving, slipping through openings or making her own so that she could move to a new place on the battlefield. As she moved around her whip grew in length and trailed behind her creating a barbed lead one could follow to track her path through the crowd. Like a deranged seamstress, Malvvosia weaved her way through the throng, her whip as her thread and her fists as her needle.

As her whip neared the limit of its growth Malvvosia leapt into the air away from the horde and landed between it and the wall, an area that was becoming increasingly smaller even with both her and the gunners efforts. Malvvosia dug her claws into the ground, stiffened her legs so that she became like a pillar of stone, and with both hands pulled her whip. Countless demons were grabbed by barbs, or caught in loops created by the whip, and all were pulled together into a massive ball held together by the deadly tendril. The demoness continued to pull and her whip dug into the bodies it had ensnared. With one final mighty heave the whip sliced through the bodies, the hundreds of barbs acting like saw teeth, and left a pile of eviscerated corpses on the ground.

Malvvosia made to wade back into the fight but noticed some of the horde had made it to the wall and were beginning to climb it. As her whip was still at its maximum length Malvvosia willed it to wrap and ensnare the group that fell upon their eviscerated allies. Once again the demoness pulled, forcing the caught demons into a ball, but instead of killing them as she had the last group unlucky enough to become caught in her barbs, she heaved and swung the group through the air like a wrecking ball. The demon ball slammed into the demons climbing the wall with such force that even those who were not hit directly were still thrown from the wall. Under normal circumstances Malvvosia would have immediately gone back to battle once the wall was clear of prey, she would have charged back in as she cackled with glee and slaughtered her way through the seemingly endless buffet of enemies. But she was there to protect the humans, so instead she took a moment to observe the battlefield and determine if her usual preference for fighting would actually help or hinder. Though she had managed to keep the majority of the horde away from the section of wall she had been fighting in front of, the rest of the wall was still in great danger. The impressive turrets atop the wall were powerful, but because of their angle they could only shoot a relatively small section of demons at a time. The guns were slaughtering countless demons, but the sheer numbers were clearly winning out. Had the turrets been at ground level they would have easily sliced through the entire army before it even made it halfway to the wall. It was then that Malvvosia had another sudden burst of inspiration: she swung her demon wrecking ball through some of the horde that had gotten too close for comfort while she was thinking then retracted her whip back to it’s normal size, the action mixed with the barbs acted like a chainsaw and cut up the demon ball. Malvvosia pushed off from the ground and landed back on the crenulations she had been dancing upon a little while ago. She quickly made her way to the closest turret and gently plucked the human manning it off, placing them carefully off to the side. She then grabbed ahold of the turret and began to pull, trying to rip it free from the wall. The sheer weight of the machine coupled with how secure it was to the wall made it almost impossible even for Malvvosia. The demoness quickly glanced at the horde, they would be at the wall any moment and she did not have the luxury to take too waste time. Though she was not happy about it, she realized her true form would be required for the task.

Malvvosia’s shadowy form collapsed inwards, her shadows solidifying, creating a blackened glassy seed floating in the air. The seed pulsated and new limbs pushed their way outward, stretching the skin of the seed. Once her transformation was complete Malvvosia’s true form was revealed to those atop the wall. The upper half of her body was that of a four armed woman with hair that wistfully defied gravity as if in water, and her lower half belonged to the form of a monstrous spider covered in massive spines. From within the spines on her back came a powerful heat that caused the humans nearby to back away if they had not already. Malvvosia grabbed the turret once more, this time with four arms, and dug all eight of her pointed legs into the stone of the wall. With one sharp tug the turret came free and with a push from all eight legs that turned the stone beneath her into rubble both the demoness and the turret flew into the air. The demon spider, turret in hands, landed in the midst of the swarm, the force of the fall crushing any who were unfortunate enough to find themselves beneath her. Wasting no time Malvvosia once more dug her legs into the ground and began to fire the massive turret. As expected, the rounds from the mighty gun tore through the demons with ease and would only slow after they had pierced several dozen bodies.

The recoil of the gun was fierce without the strength of the wall to counteract it; Malvvosia was more than strong enough to aim the massive firearm, but the dirt she had planted herself in was not as suited for the task and the demoness found herself being pushed backwards. Normally being forced back was something to be avoided, but under the circumstances it proved helpful as the demons behind her who did not move out of the way would be pierced by the massive spines on her back. As the displaced turret took care of the army in front of her, her spiny abdomen took care of those behind her. When the bodies impaled on her spines became too much she would vigorously shake her backend, sending the impaled bodies flying off as well as shredding any creature that stood too close. In addition to her spiny defences, the scorching heat that emanated from Malvvosia proved to be just as dangerous for her attackers. Her mere presence scorched the immediate area around her, igniting stray plants and weeds; a fate shared by those who foolish enough to get too close.

The attacking force quickly decreased in size, what was once a massive horde that emanated rage so powerfully it made the air feel thick with it, was rapidly becoming a pitiful and impotent thing that stood no chance at breaching the wall.

The guardsman's agitation was palpable as he delivered his instructions, though it was clear to all that the blue-garbed man’s more immediate fears concerned the two beings standing before him.

The larger, more noticeable of the two was a towering behemoth with a wolf’s head that loomed well over him even as it stood on all fours. The people manning the wall had been justifiably alarmed when the creature had suddenly clambered onto the parapet, but the situation had calmed somewhat when the beast simply sat and waited in place.

The only clue that the monster was listening to what was being said was the occasional twitch of its lupine ears, but the regard of its amber eyes rested far away over the horizon.

Which was just as well for the man.

By comparison, the other one listening to him was exceedingly unassuming. A young woman clad in purple clothing that would not have been out of place among a crowd of groupies in their favorite band’s concert.

Unfortunately, he had been informed that among the agents of the Council was a shapeshifter that was at all times followed by a Hellhound, which left little doubt in his mind as to who he was speaking with. Unlike the beast, however, the woman’s unnatural gaze was focused squarely on him as he offered his explanation.

The woman in question was unaware of the human’s perceived connection between her and the great wolf. Though it was clear the guardsman thought her to be someone else as he acted as if he knew her, which was highly unlikely. After Malvvosia’s meeting with the demoness and her daughter there had been brief interactions with other members of the group—enough to cement her position as a trustworth ally—before they all were allowed to select a mission. Mal doubted word of her had gotten around so quickly.

Malvvosia cast a side glance at the hound beside her and found herself somewhat irritated. She had switched back to her human(ish) appearance to ensure no humans would feel uneasy around her. A decision her beastly companion had rendered pointless with his less than ease creating form. It was tempting to change bodies and slip into a more comfortable version of herself, however she reasoned in the end that it would probably be best if the guards on the wall continued to think they were familiar with her. In times of war a new face can be just as unsettling as a demonic one.

“Actually,” Malvvosia began, cutting the guard off near the end of his sentence, “I came to lend help repairing the wall. That was my initial intention, I was unaware the part of it that was broken was somewhat less… physical, than I had been lead to believe. Had that not been the case I could have repaired the wall single handedly and made it worlds better than anything your workers could muster up.”Malvvosia shrugged “I suppose I will need to employ my less...constructive… skill set.” The demoness smiled at the thought of a good fight and had to put a great deal of effort into ensuring her smile didn’t grow unnaturally large. “Just point us in the direction of the thing that needs to die and we will do our—” Malvvosia motioned towards her hairy teammate as she said this “—utmost to make them as dead as is physically and spiritually possible.” Malvvosia’s smile grew a touch wider than she wanted, just bordering on the point were some would consider it too big.

To make matters worse for the man’s frayed nerves, the hound broke its vigil as he sensed the looks thrown his way. Its head turned ponderously, and slitted eyes fixed on the guardsman, lips parting just enough to spy lines of razor fangs. The beast simply grunted, the sound like crumbling rock uttered like a reinforcement to the woman’s claims.

The man forced a smile onto his pale features and bowed, excusing himself.

The hound followed him with his eyes until he had left the parapet, then focused them on Malvvosia. As if he had been waiting for a modicum of privacy, the hound spoke in a grave voice. “You do not have the recruiter’s stench about you, Crone. Who do you belong to?”

Free of unwanted eyes, Malvvosia let her smile spread across her face, the edges of her mouth going past her ears. Upon being addressed, her mouth returned to a more reasonable size and she turned to regard the speaker, lifting her eyes but not her head to peer up at him. “Belong? What an interesting question.” Raising and then tilting her head slightly she continued, “I belong to myself and I serve my own interests; my interests revolve around protecting humans.”

“Yet another imp,” the hound grunted with obvious irritation, though his following words made it difficult to decide which part of her answer bothered him. “Your presence here is telling, if you truly do not belong to the forces arrayed here. Why bother with walls when all the enemy needs to crack open this city is a modicum of subtlety?”

Ironic as it was to hear the hulking dog speak of subtlety, the implication was clear. If Malvvosia had found her way into the city without the knowledge of the factions that had gathered in Aquapolis, there was little stopping any with less than pure intentions from doing the same. In fact, the hound’s comment had not gone as far as to imply she was not one such enemy. Had there been more hostility to the remark, it could have come off as an accusation. As it stood, it seemed he had taken her answer at face value. Or that he simply did not care either way.

Whether or not the dog’s tone could be taken as accusatory held little interest for Malvvosia as she was more concerned with something else. “An imp? I take offence to being compared to such an annoying creature,” she snapped, her tone that of someone annoyed rather than angry.

The hound craned its head to regard her with half-lidded, almost disappointed eyes. “My musings provide scant comfort, Crone. If you must, pretend I said nothing of the sort.”

Malvvosia blinked a few times before standing on her tiptoes to better look the beast in the eyes. “Just how many of you are in there?” The demoness giggled quietly as a thought occurred to her. “ Perhaps cerberus only had one head and three doggie personalities.” Malvvosia smiled, her annoyance at being called an Imp long forgotten. She returned to standing normally and stretched her arms as she walked over to the crenulations of the wall, hopping on up to stand on top of one of them. Smoke flowed from the fingertips of her right hand and formed the shape of a large gun; closing her hand around the smokey handle of the gun caused the smoke to solidify and become her Vicker’s Gun. “Shall we keep watch, Cerby? It would be terrible if some demons found their way onto this wall.”

“Is that an invitation to toss you off?”

Malvvosia hopped from one crenulation to the next and looked over her shoulder. “You’re more fun than the other two.”

The hound grunted in what must have been agreement.
Lily gripped the folder she had been handed rather tightly, her choice already made as to which case she was going to take. All the same she glanced over at the folder in her companion's hands and read some snippets of the few statements in there. Upon reading the story of the blood flood she made an annoyed grunt and rolled her eyes.

"Adam," she began "I would not bother giving any credence to these hauntings. I have looked into my fair share of ghosts and even when a person with the talent is involved it is always a bunch of Tommy-rot. I can assure you had the drunkard been pressed he would have admitted that he was not actually there to experience the bloodied basement but that he had heard others speak of it. It is most likely he didn't mention it until drunk because his sober mind was able to recognize it for the hogwash it is, an ability a drunks mind is far less capable of." Lillian shook her head and sighed. "My friend, there are a myriad of far better explanations available. The most likely cause is the people who built the building did a poor job of it. Drafts, creaking, all of that is explainable by old buildings or shoddily made new ones. And even if there was blood filling the halls it most likely was regular water with a layer of dirt and rust floating on top. In poorly lit conditions the reddish brown looks vaguely like blood. Further more, as it is just water with a layer of grim, once you left the water it would appear as if the 'blood' had vanished, when in reality it was always just plain water." Lily stopped to take a sip of her tea. "I suspect the reason the building is unusable is the city has realized the building is unsafe and is doing their best to keep that knowledge under wraps so as to not taint the reputation of their fancy new building. I suspect if we wait a little longer there will be reports of banging coming from the building at night, caused by the workers the city secretly hired to make the facility usable." Lillian nodded matter-of-factly and felt she had sufficiently deterred them all from wasting their time. She was about to move onto speaking about the little girl when a thought occurred to her, that Adam was not the sort of person to be pulled into fanciful tales unless it was possible he sensed something bigger behind it. Begrudgingly, Lily added "However... we could surely spare some time to take a look. It would not be very difficult to prove our skill set is not needed there. And you will find that my presence alone gives us a reason to be in the building. I have somewhat of a reputation around the city for poking my nose into things for my own interests. So long as I am there our presences should not raise any concerns."

Lily finished her tea and poured herself another cup. "I am much more interested in the little girl. Even in the event there is nothing fantastical going on, there is a human being in need of aid. Surely that demands our immediate attention."
From atop one of the tallest buildings in Aquapolis City drifted the sound of music, carried by wind the sound was quiet but clear, indicating just how loud the music was being played. Dancing around an old beat-up boombox at the top of the building was a tall creature hidden in smoke with massive wings. Malvvosia, The Thrasher of False Kings, had made her way to the city to help with the efforts of protecting the seals. She had been under the impression that only humans were involved so she had been surprised to find several demons taking part as well, even more shocking -and down right appalling- was that angels were involved as well. Her trust in the whole endeavour shaken by the inclusion of angels, Malvvosia decided to take a more subtle approach than she normally would to a situation. By transforming into a human she was able to avoid unwanted notice, allowing her to get close enough to eavesdrop on the meeting that took place. Once the meeting was over she flew around the city and continued her dropping of eaves, to find out more about the kind of creatures she would, potentially, be working with.

She found many of the angels and demons and humans that had taken part in the meeting all around the city and spent some time observing them. She felt the demons and humans had good enough heads on their shoulders, but they were not her main concern. The angels she came across were who she spied on the longest, an excruciating experience as she had to resist the urge to run up and bash them in the head. Having finished her spying, Malvvosia came to the concision, that while she might not like them, the angels did seem dedicated to protecting the seals. All the same, her disliking of angels put her in a mental quandary as to whether or not she wanted to join in or not, so she elected to find a place that was private and enjoy some of her favourite human music to take her mind off things.

As the smokey demon danced around the rooftop feathers would shake loose from her wings and flutter in the air a moment before slowly falling to the ground. She had been dancing for some time so there was a decent sized bed of feathers coating her dance floor, and about half as many still floating in the air slowly making their way towards joining the others. She paid the loss of feathers no mind as she had plenty to spare, and her attention was focused on the humans below. She adored just about everything to do with humans and loved to watch them go about their lives, often making up stories for why they were doing what the were doing, and making up their names so she had something to call them. Dancing along the edge of the roof, using her wings to keep her from falling off, she looked down at a nearby park and spotted two humans she had been watching for most of the day. Dorian and Princess Red Shirt were what she had elected to call them and they had spent most of their day wandering around in the park. It was difficult to tell from so far away but it looked as though Princess Red Shirt was resting her head on Dorian's shoulder. They made a cute couple: Malvvosia wondered if it would be rude to drop in on the wedding she had just then decided the two were undoubtedly going to have. Continuing to dance along the edge she made her way around to the other side of the building, and spotted Martha Abigail Peterson sitting out on her balcony knitting. Malvvosia had spotted the woman a few hours prior, where she had been folding laundry on the same balcony. There had been quite a bit of laundry so Malvvosia decided that must mean Martha had ten children, undoubtedly she was knitting clothes for an eleventh on the way. The dancing demon began to think up fitting names for the yet-to-be-born child, when a strong gust of wind hit the top of the building almost blowing her off the side. She dug her toes into the concrete to stop herself from falling. The feathers in the air and on the ground were picked up and blown away in a swirl, looking more and more like a flock of strange birds the farther away the wind took them. A second gust of wind knocked the decrepit boombox over; the music cut off abruptly following the upsettingly familiar sound of music equipment breaking. With a sigh Malvvosia went over and inspected the device, trying a few buttons and knobs, and giving it "love taps" -as the humans liked to call them- to see if she could get it going. She quickly realised that was not going to happen. "Damn it all..."

Taking her musical destruction as a cue to actually come to a decision, Malvvosia decided she would help for as long as the seals needed protection. She would work alongside angels up to the very moment the seals were no longer in danger, and not a moment longer. She smiled at the thought of the look on those angels faces when she would tear them to shreds. "All good things to those who wait," she muttered happily to herself.

As she had skipped out on the meeting Malvvosia decided, that since she was going to be fighting alongside these people, it would be prudent to introduce herself to someone on the team, as a means to break the ice. She recalled observing two people -after listening to them for some time she realized they were demons- earlier in the day and remembered thinking they seemed a reasonable pair. With a mighty push that broke the concrete beneath her feet, Malvvosia leapt towards the end of the city she recalled seeing the pair in. As she began to lose height she used her wings to guide her towards an alleyway where she could land unseen. Moments before she landed she altered her form to take on the appearance of a human, hitting the ground just as the transformation finished. Her landing, like her take off, cracked the pavement around her in a large radius. Malvvosia brushed debris from her leggings and straightened her jacket before heading off to find those she sought. After she turned she found a human child staring at her, mouth agape, hand frozen in an open claw that had previously been holding a bag of candy. Malvvosia smiled, approached the child, bent down, and grabbed the candy that had fallen to the ground in shock. She placed it back in his hand and made sure he was gripping the bag tight enough that he wouldn't drop it again. She spent some time observing the young boy who could have been no older than ten. His face was caked with different colours from the candy he had been eating, and he had various band-aids all over his body. Malvvosia smiled and decided his name was Dennis "Run along, Dennis," she said with a smile. Her voice was cheerful and held a tinge of playfulness in it, but was far too mature and powerful for the young face it emanated from. "Enjoy the rest of your day, and try not to drop that candy again." Malvvosia plucked a piece of candy from the bag, popped it in her mouth and walked away, doing her best to hide the fact her face was twisted in disgust. She never did understand human’s obsession with eating sour things. The young boy gripped his candy tighter and ran off to find his friend to tell them about the experience, yelling back at the strange woman, “My name’s not Dennis!”

Malvvosia wandered around for sometime, repeatedly getting distracted watching and interacting with humans. She eventually found the two demons she had been looking for. They hadn’t moved, and were in the same spot she had left them hours prior. She approached them and put on her best attempt at a welcoming smile "Greetings Fae! I'm Malvvosia" she held out a hand "The Thrasher of False Kings. A pleasure to meet you."

This game sounds rather interesting. I'd love to join in for Act II

I might need some help making a character sheet as I'm a little confused by them.
Lily finished the pear Lucie had offered and devoured another, as well as some more filing food, quickly after. Feeling refreshed she took up a pose that made it look as though she were deep in thought. Placing her elbows on the arms of her chair, resting her head on the backs of her crossed hands, and closing her eyes. With a deep breath she called upon her power and stepped out of her body. With her new, somewhat ethereal body, she carefully stepped over to where Lucie sat and began closely examining the woman. She had numerous holes in her ears, undoubtedly from past piercings Lucie no longer wore. She had, unsurprisingly, a great deal of muscle that was well hidden, until closely examined, by the beautiful dress she wore. After a short examination Lily's was disappointing to find there was nothing physically remarkable about the woman, so she moved onto checking Lucie's vitals, a task made rather difficult when touching the subject was not an option. She checked the woman's heart beat by closely watching one of the veins in her neck and counting every time she saw a pulse (heartbeat was normal). She then checked Lucie's breathing by positioning her head just in front of her subject so she could watch the woman's chest lift and drop as she breathed while also listening to her breaths for anything odd (breathing was normal). Lily continued her examination well into when Adam began to speak and only stopped when she heard something of interest.

"-not simple, or normal." Lily's attention perked up at the mention of abnormal cases and she immediately returned to her body, starting a bit as she did. The prospect of researching something abnormal was thrilling and Lily became immediately excited about finding out what the cases were. Her excitement was short lived however as Adam decided to get everyone's thoughts on the matter before he continued. Lily frowned slightly, somewhat annoyed at being denied the mental stimulation Adam's cases would no doubt provide. Begrudgingly Lily held off on giving her immediate consent to being included, despite her desire to do so, and took a moment to consider the ramifications of putting her life on the line. Her considerations did not last very long; she was used to putting her life in danger for the sake of her research, and she felt confident her sanity would take very little damage as there was not much that could disturb her.

"Well," Lily began, cutting into the conversation just after Lucie. "I have no need for financial compensation, though I much appreciate the offer and your concern for my, our, safety. So long as I am free to study the cases as I please, that is all the compensation I need. Now, I should very much like to hear about these... paranormal mysteries , of which you speak." Lily pulled out one of her many note books and a pen and readied herself to make notes.
The atmosphere in the garden was like something described at the beginning of a book prone to flowery prose. The sun had only just begun to peak over the tops of the trees, bathing the garden in a gentle warm light. A light breeze carrying the scents of the trees into the garden where they turned and mixed with the scents of the flowers creating a heavenly bouquet that lifted the spirit. It was truly a perfect moment, that Lillian was in no way taking part in despite being in the garden herself. After having spotted an interesting beetle perched on the stem of a voracious hydrangea bush Lily sat herself comfortably on a nearby bench and exited her physical form so as to study the insect closer without startling it, something a physical body was prone to do. The creature had the most brilliant iridescent shell that shifted between red and gold, and rather large oddly shaped antenna that acted independently of each other and would twitch into various positions. After watching it for a while Lily fetched one of her notebooks and a pen to write down her observations and drew a quick sketch. It was difficult to tell for sure as there were countless beetle species in the world, but Lillian was fairly confident she had stumbled across a totally new one. When she had a moment she would need to spend several days researching beetles to ensure she did in fact discover a new one, but once that business was out of the way she could get to task with the truly exciting parts of discovery. Cataloging, study, and experimentation. Several days would need to be devoted to the creatures mating habits, life cycle, food preferences, and countless other details. She would then need to spend several weeks, possibly several months, observing the creature to see how it interacted with the ecosystem and what, if any, part it played in it. The thought of all the science potentially to come in the future was thrilling, and did much to lift Lillian’s spirits in a way that the scent of flowers and trees never could.

Satisfied she had enough detail to do proper research Lily returned her notebook and pen to their respective pouches and willed herself back to her body. As expected after having spent over half an hour in her semi-ethereal form, Lily was absolutely famished. Taking no notice of the current otherworldly state of the garden, Lily stood and marched back into the house to satisfy her hunger at the breakfast she had been invited to. In the short time she had been outside, the house had come alive with the activity of its various members getting ready for the day, or getting ready to go to sleep after a long night of research. Lily couldn’t help but notice however that there was a great deal more activity then she had come to expect from the house and its’ members. This was very likely to have been caused by the events herself and her companions had gotten up to two nights previous, though whether the increase in activity was because the other members were helping, or simply trying to gather gossip was unclear to Lily. What she was rather acutely aware of however was the looks she was receiving from all the members she passed. Under normal circumstances the abundance of looks would have gone unnoticed by Lily, but with her shaken self esteem she was not just aware of the looks but they were beginning to upset her. So much so that she changed the path she was taking to one with less people along it. Her new path was a much longer and rather obtuse way to get to where she needed to be but it was worth it to be alone. It was along this new path that she encountered one of her companions from two nights previous, Lucie was her name; or so Lily thought, she was terrible at remembering names. She was not in the mood to speak with any member other than Adam, but it seemed rude to not at least acknowledge the other woman, so she gave a small smile and a “Good morning.”

Lucie, dressed more for a ballroom than breakfast, looked down at her with an amused smile on her lips and returned Lilian’s greeting with a nod of her head, “Good morning, Lilian.” She took a few moments to look her up and down, sniffing at the air experimentally before one eyebrow quirked in a silent query, the corner of her lips tugging up a tiny fraction more.

“A beautiful dress, I must say. I like the colour.” She met Lilian’s eyes, and for a moment they seemed to twinkle. “Were you invited to mis—” A servant rounded the corner ahead of them, and Lucie stopped herself, frowning silently for all of a second before resuming “—Master Ware’s breakfast?” She asked, apparently not at all concerned with Lily’s mood being one not suited for casual conversation. Her conversive companion was the least of her concerns at that moment though, Lucie’s question regarding the invitation and her location in the house would suggest that she too was headed to breakfast with Adam. Lillian had hopped it would be a private gathering of just her and Adam, with Ren at most. What was worse was that if Lucie was invited it stood to reason that others were invited too. Lily was tempted to make up an excuse and return to her room, but she was very hungry and wanted to see Adam, so some unwelcome company seemed of minor inconvenience.

“Yes, I was. It is Professor Lillian by the by.” Lily was set to end the conversation and continue towards breakfast but suddenly realized she had been paid a compliment. “I beg your pardon? You...like my dress?” Her face began to warm unexpectedly which Lily recognised as a sign she was blushing. Compliments Lily was used to, compliments from someone who wasn’t trying to weasel their way into her families wealth, or who wasn’t a member of her family, were a rather rare occurrence. So rare in fact that Lucie’s comment was most likely the first since before Lillian dove head first into science some years ago.

A look of confusion settled over Lucie’s features, and she folded her arms underneath her chest. “I do,” she said slowly, “I trust there is no issue with that?” Her lips widened in a smile and dispelled the look of confusion. She brought a gloved hand up and pushed a small lock of loose, orange hair back behind Lilian’s ear. Lillian froze at the touch and her face grew much hotter, she made to say something but had difficulty forming words. “Besides,” Lucie continued, her eyes flitting from the dress, to her hair, and to her eyes, the twinkle on Lucie’s own back, “how could I not? You are plenty attractive yourself, and the dress does wonders for your figure, if I might say so.” She chuckled, straightening up again. “Though it makes me wonder, if maybe my own corset was overdoing it?” Lily’s eyes widened at Lucie’s comment, so much so her face stretch slightly causing her glasses to slip off her nose and clatter to the ground. She desperately wanted to say something but no words were coming out, most likely because she was unable to even form any in her head. After a long pause that felt longer to Lily than it actually was, she managed to blurt something out.

“Ó, go maith, tá an gúna ag breathnú go hiontach! Agus ... agus tá an cóirséad álainn freisin! Lig dúinn dul go dtí an bricfeasta!"She had meant to speak in Czech but it had come out in Gaelic instead.

“I beg your pardon?” Lucie asked sounding somehow both amused and puzzled. “I did not quite catch that.“

Somewhat flustered Lily tried once more to get her message across, however her brain did not seem to want to work properly and she was having troubles finding the right words to say, at least in a language Lucie could understand. With some difficulty Lily managed to say something understandable to the lovely woman before her. “Ah. Yes. You are in a lovely dress as well. And the corset is fitting for an early morning dining event.” Lillian began contemplating using her ability to leave her body behind.

“I appreciate the compliment,” Lucie replied, even doing a curtsy right in the middle of the hallway. The movement only just brought her eye level with Lilian herself, and she had to wonder at the difference in their heights. Lucie was usually very tall already, but the addition of a pair of heels brought her height to a level where she would dwarf even most men. Their eyes met as Lucie rose to her full height again, her tongue clicking in her mouth almost as if judging, or considering something of great importance. There was a brief moment where Lillian wondered what the other woman was thinking about, but it lasted only a moment as the analytical part of her brain resumed control and she found herself instantly interested in the tall woman’s eyes. So much so that she forgot about how flustered Lucie was making her and she stepped closer, raising up on her toes to get closer to the brilliant amber eyes the other woman possessed. Their faces mere centimeters apart, Lily frowned, bent down, retrieved her glasses from the floor, returned them to their place on her nose, and resumed her close proximity to Lucie, much to her visible amusement.

“Well now. That is something very fascinating.” Lily mused aloud, not really expecting anyone to comment.

“I could recommend you something that would work wonders on those bags under your eyes,” Lucie said suddenly and off-handedly, her gaze unflinching as grey and amber met. “But cosmetics aside,” she continued, her voice almost a purr, “what is it you find interesting?”

Barely blinking Lily responded, “You. You are a rarity aren’t you? You simply must tell me all about your genealogy.” Lillian moved slightly closer, close enough she could see the intricate pattern of Lucie’s irises, and her own reflection reflected back in the pupils. The reflected image was so clear she could see her own sunken in eyes that Lucie had commented on. Lillian returned to a normal standing position and took a step back, bringing a hand up to one of her eyes to feel the puffy bags that rested there. “I had never realized they were so noticable. My apologies.”

Lucie blinked and Lilian would have sworn she saw a glimpse of something akin to shame, but it vanished as quickly as it had come. She clicked her tongue once more and gave a shallow nod to no one in particular. “There is nothing to apologise for, Lilian,” she said. “It was not my intention to point out something negative.” She smiled, and turned forward, holding out a gloved arm for Lilian, inviting her along. Familiar with the gesture Lilian hooked her own arm around Lucie’s and pulled herself close to the other woman as she had seen her mother and father do at countless parties.

“Is apologizing not the proper protocol? My mother was always very keen to apologize to her guests first thing if she felt she had not met their expectations physically.”

“Protocol?” Lucie laughed, not quite uproariously, but loud enough that it would have attracted some attention. “‘Protocol’ is merely pretending to be civil, while really not giving a damn. But while it may be ‘proper protocol’, rest assured that it doesn’t matter to me.” She shook her head and directed Lilian down one hallway, then the next. “So no, apologising isn’t necessary when around me. I suggested it as a friendly piece of advice. Not to mention it is, I suspect, something that could be improved upon with a little rest and some days without stress.” She hummed, her eyes growing dull as she lost herself in thought for a few moments. “What do you say to a trip to town sometime in the near future? I have a suspicion a day with me might, at the very least, be a bit of fun.”

A day on the town seemed like a decent opportunity to study the towering lady so Lillian gladly accepted. “How could I turn down such a grand suggestion. I should like that very much.” Lillian thought a moment and realized she would need to see Lucie without clothing on if she intended to properly research her so quickly added “Perhaps we could go clothes shopping together.” Clothes shopping was also an effective way to get ahold of someone’s measurements without being too intrusive. Not that Lily personally minded being intrusive, but it had gotten her into trouble on enough occasions.

Lucie glanced down with a nigh unreadable expression on her face. One eyebrow rose slowly, and for a moment Lilian thought her intentions had been seen through, only for relief to flood through her as Lucie simply grinned. “I think I agree. This piece—” she gestured at herself, and the dress she wore “—is a rather new one, but I’m often on the hunt for new and interesting designs. My tailor has a habit of coming up with new ideas rather often. She is quite a rarity in the regard.” Lillian instantly perked up.

“Is that so? A rarity you say? We shall have to pay them a visit then.” Lily had to admit to herself that her initial intention to avoid Lucie was a poor decision as in the brief time they had been together the tall woman was proving increasingly interesting.

Arm in arm the two ladies made their way to breakfast and found Adam sitting at a large table, alone, and already indulging in the cornucopia of delicious foods laid out before him. Lillian grew a wide smile and bowed slightly out of respect, Lucie curtsying beside her. “It is very pleasing to see you in good health Adam.” Lily then made to pull a chair out and offer it to Lucie, only to find that Lucie had already pulled her own out and was offering it to Lily.

“I offered you my arm,” Lucie said, giving Lilian a knowing look and a smile, “I do believe that makes me the masculine one here, in spite of my attire.” She gestured to the chair with a gloved hand, never taking her eyes off of Lily or letting the small, teasing smile drop. “So if you would, please?” Lily hesitated, looking to Adam then back to Lucie. She was unsure what Lucie meant by “the masculine one” but it seemed rude to ignore the gesture so she sat in the offered chair and allowed herself to be moved into position at the table.

But just because Lilian was seated, did not mean that the tall woman was done. She reached over the table, having yet to acknowledge Adam, and took a pear from one of the trays with fresh fruit and handed it to Lily. She gave her a knowing wink before she sat herself beside Lily, folding her hands neatly in her lap and finally looked at their host, giving him a most charming smile. “Good morning, Master Adam. Or—” she tilted her head to the side ever so slightly, and an almost wicked glint entered her eyes “—now that the cat is out of the bag as it were, should it be…?” She let the words hang in the air. Lily did not notice the exchange as she was already enjoying the pear that had been given to her and was quite distracted by it
Lillian stood before a full length mirror she had requested be brought to her quarters looking upon her naked form. Vain is not a word she would ever use to have describe herself, nor was she someone who cared very deeply about her appearance. But as she starred at the serious burns that started a few centimeters above her ankles and stretched all the way up the front of both legs to just below her genitals she couldn't help but feel depressed at how ugly she now found herself. The fact that the wounds would eventually heal did little to brighten her spirits as she had studied burns in the past and knew that with burns as serious as hers the best she could hope for was the scar tissue might one day fade enough that her legs would look somewhat normal. Starring at her marred form in the mirror made Lily think of the future; she never had much interest in finding love, and she never imagined herself marrying. However she had planned that someday before she was too old that she would like to have a child or two. She would need a man of some order to achieve that but she couldn't help but fear that there was no man that would willingly lay with her as she now was. Lillian did her best to hold back tears at that thought, feeling that she had cried enough in the past two days she had been staying at the house. She had cried both from the physical pain of her wounds, but also the emotional pain at having lost several months worth of research notes when the pouches that held her notes combusted. She had done her best to remake the notes from memory, but what once had filled four sizable notebooks, now barely filled one and a half. Lily decided that under the circumstances crying was probably quite reasonable and let herself cry for a few minutes.

When she felt she had cried enough Lily sat on the edge of her bed and began to dress her wounds; gently rubbing an experimental medical salve she received from another member of the house over the burned areas, and then wrapping both legs in fresh bandages. The salve worked wonders to dull the pain and assist in healing, but it smelled something terrible, so Lily followed up her wrapping by spraying both her legs with her favorite pear scented perfume, one of the few combustible items that survived the fire. She then stood and walked around the room a few times to ensure she had done an adequate enough wrap job that the bandages were not going to slip off. Satisfied that everything was in place Lillian fetched the clothes she had sent over from her own home and started to dress herself. To her surprise her mother had sent over a plum coloured dress that was on the lighter side of plum. Her mother would never give such a brightly coloured dress to her "prone-to-get-filthy" daughter. The dress also had a great deal of elegantly crafted and positioned white lace that suited Lily's tastes perfectly. With a bit of difficulty, and after tearing off a few decorative and obstructive parts of the dress, Lillian had it on and inspected herself in the mirror. The plum suited her surprisingly nicely and made her feel somewhat beautiful which was exactly the sort of feeling she was in need of. "How is it mother always knows what I need?" she questioned aloud. Lily finished getting herself ready, doing her hair, giving her neck a small spray of perfume, and clipping on her gold frame glasses to her nose. The last of her personal effects to take care of was the remains of the pouches she always carried. The destroyed pouches had been replaced with spares and the equipment and chemicals inside had also been replaced with extras Lillian had sent over from her home. With exception to the notes she lost her pouches and their contents were as they once were, with one minor and important change. All flammable materials were placed in the same pouch which was made of thicker leather, and each individual bottle had its own leather case. Lilian's father always said that some lessons must be learned the hard way and Lily had most certainly learned from hers.

After winding all four of her watches to make sure they would be ticking for the day Lily left her room and ventured upstairs, keen to get some fresh air after having been stuck inside in bed for two days straight. As Lily was about to exit the grounds she was intercepted by one of the houses servants.

"Good morning Miss Lillian...p-pardon my intrusion." The young serving maid seemed oddly meek for one of Adam's staff. Lillian quickly realized it was because she was wearing her "Thinking Face" as her father liked to call it, and apparently her thinking face makes her appear quite cross. Lily did her best to take on a more neutral appearance but without a mirror it was impossible to say if her new look was any better.

"Professor Lillian, actually. What can I do for you, miss?" Lily asked, hoping to move the conversation along.

"Master Adam wishes to know if you would like to join him for breakfast." This made Lily smile, she was quite pleased to know her friend was not only well, but well enough to entertain.

"I should be delighted to do so. You can tell him I will join him for breakfast shortly, after I have taken a walk around the grounds." the maid bowed her head and quickly scurried off to relay the message. Lily quickly made her way outside so as to not be bothered by anyone else and went for a leisurely walk around the house's grounds.
