I ran a RP years ago with a rather similar theme to this: a prison for metahumans disguised as a school. Though in mine that point was disguised and later presented as a plot twist.

That aside, I'm quite interested in this. I think I'll try my hand at a malevolent "super" who is trying to beat the system.
I have a soft spot for RPs such as this, so I'll keep an eye on it.

Does anyone know where Dead Cruiser is? Or can someone else come help my character?

I'm waiting for this debacle with Talon to resolve itself. If we get two more characters tied up in this mess, it'll be enough to topple the RP over.
I had a thought since then. What if trying entities to beliefs was his particular talent? It wouldn't be overwhelming or obvious, but he could disbelieve curses and ghosts and such into banality. Deceiving them into not believing in themselves and zero-summing, in the event of a critical success. Skepticism as a means of attack and defense.
Providence said As far as your character concept - I'd like to know a bit more. How does he go about doing this? Let's say it's a spirit - how does he trick it? Or, if it's a curse set in motion, I'm not entirely sure how he would stop it in this manner - as much as he'd be capable in in breaking a curse, I don't think he could turn it against itself. If it's a demon, I kind of get what you mean though.

That's why I asked about supernatural entities being shaped by belief. If he can alter the perceptions and beliefs of the people from which the being draws its power, he can alter the nature of the being. Though mindless entities and phenomena, such as curses, are simply not his strong suit. As I said, he specializes in fakes, frauds, phonies and impostors, and is skilled in the art of deception. That about covers his entire skillset. Really, he's more adept at inflicting curses than resolving them.
This seems quite interesting.

I do have a few questions. In your setting, what is the nature of these supernatural beings? Are they scientifically explainable phenomena, or are they completely mystical in nature? Are they only "ghosts" or are can they take the shapes of supernatural beings of folklore (fairies, youkai, etc)? Do they manifest on their own, or are they shaped by human belief?

The last question is particularly important to the character concept I have in mind. A self-described con man that specializes in "impostors," and can deceive creatures into defeating themselves.

Except that's why you twist the universe to fit this one.

Yeah, I know, but everything kind of falls apart if I push the whole timeline 26 years forward. That is unless I pull a SBR and just uproot the whole thing and rewrite all of the characters.

Hrmmm. The Jojo timeline being totally out of whack with this RP is giving me difficulty. Jotaro was 17 in 1988, and he's been dead for four years by 2016. Jolyne is closest to our timeframe but again, she's already somewhere in her twenties, and I don't particularly want to play her. HRMMMMM.....

I'd be willing to join the Young Avengers as Jojo, if it's permitted.

I'll wait on word from our GM, as there are apparently certain restrictions on Eastern comic book characters. Yare yare daze.
