Given the sort of slow curdle of discussion and interest as well as the site downtime that no doubt played a part in it, I think I'm going to let this one go. Perhaps I'll try to start it back up at a later point, on a more stable platform.

I thank each of you for your interest however, and hope to play with you some other time.

Humanity will be in a really odd and wierd way that involves time travel and failed warp drive experiments.

Fair enough. It was a pretty minor thing; something to do with "a form you are comfortable with." Makes it easier on me, I suppose.

Hopefully no one minds an extradimensional brood of all-devouring Lovecraftian energy beings.
My Servant CS

I was interested in the original RP, but I withdrew as my concept for a faction I felt was too similar to another. I sort of regret it, as my personal twist on the "all-consuming hive mind space locust" trope shouldn't have given way to the same trope played completely straight.

In any case, I'll follow along with this. A question, though. Since this is a separate galaxy, is humanity absent from the setting? Not that I plan on playing as it, simply a small part of my proposed faction will have to be edited with the absence of mankind.
I should be able to fulfill a once-per-week schedule; a rather demanding and chaotic work schedule allows that much at least.

Prior relations would likely be most interesting as a mixed bag. Some characters may begin knowing each other well, others may be more loosely acquainted or be complete strangers, and perhaps some start out distrusting others based on prior experiences.
Hello, yes, I am interested.

Getting right into the discussion at hand, I'd prefer the former idea. Mostly because I'm a bit on the "that guy" side of things in enjoying more obscure character concepts. The prophecy to drive the story, which you mentioned, can be written retroactively to suit the character base, and incorporate elements other than character class, such as region of origin, which you mentioned.

Just something that crossed my mind: presenting various options or roles to players, and then asking that each selection be unique between characters breeds something akin to competition within a game. Things tend to dissolve into a contest of who can grab what first, and the other players are left trying to work a character into whatever it is that remains. Perhaps we, the prospective players, can put forth character concepts, and our general input could be used to shape the setting to an extent? Just a thought to ease the character creation process.
Whoops, double post.
I have a character concept: a young sorcerer, the descendent of a long line of magicians, who has come into possession of a number of artifacts that are mostly beyond his skill level to use. The foremost being a 1300-year-old grimoire, full of various forbidden spells and the power of star gods. Would this be a workable character?
My experience with the Fate series is limited, but I'm still rather interested. I'll read up a bit, and then I think I will be contributing a Caster character.

Quick question: To what extent are our characters allowed to have ties with the supernatural? Just so I can get a general idea for when I start working on my character concept.

It's subjective, but a decent extent is acceptable. They could be currently ir previously afflicted bythe supernatural, have cursory experience with it, etc. As long as your character is not explicitly a supernatural being, nor a specialist, we can probably make it work.
