It's been 6 years? What? WHAT YEAR IS IT!

Anyway, I'm back to take a look around! Used to be part of the Old Guild like.. 7 years ago, where I did a lot of RP. Trying my hand at this again now that I've got a lot of free time working from home.

Also something to take into account with your characters is what they are doing on a ship to Ialdia. This is a colonization attempt, so of course the people on the ship would have to have a reson for being on the ship, and have some skill that would help the colonization.
I've added a rule regarding players dropping out of the RP, and what will happen to their character if the remaining partner wishes to continue. (rule #7)

Just curious, but what are the cultures of the different races like? How much...control do we have over the race of our character? Like for example, can we create our own cities/regions/organizations for backstory? Or is all that already set in stone?Edit for additional question: Would body magic such as enhanced strength or speed be more control or capacity? What Glorin Vas would control that?

1. Each of the races has their own province, as mentioned in the "blessings of the sentient races" tab in the main post. cities/regions/organizations are fine. No capitols, though. I'll be establishing the capitols. I planned to do so in the first IC post, but if you'd like to know I can tell you now.

2. Body magic could vary from type to type as far as power/control goes. For example, something like enhanced strength or jumping ability would be power, while something like partial invisibility would be control. The ideal body mage would have equal vas wein distribution on all parts of the skin. So a body mage would be kind of like a jack of all trades. He/she would be capable of all types of magic, but not be particularly good or bad at any type. So the glorin vas of a body mage would be moderately sized (medium power & control), with vas wein of equal measure throughout the body.

The video seems to be broken, it might be easier to just provide a link to it. The first idea doesn't work. The reason being that things like telekinesis and movement control would take a large amount of control, which would mean the character would have to have a relatively small glorin vas. with this in mind, the first idea works against itself. Because telekinesis takes a large amount of control, and energy magic (projectiles etc.) take a large amount of energy, one character wouldn't be able to do both.

We should all probably start pairing up so that we can actually write some character sheets. =P

yes that would be nice. It's up to you all to find a partner, although with the good amount of people here that shouldn't be too difficult.

I think I would play Scael, but their interaction is entirely limited. What is their purpose? Do they hang out with other races? How? Do they just float around being peaceful?

Their interaction isn't limited at all. They still interact with other races in close to the same way other races interact with one another, although their society is mostly introverted, they are still capable of politics with other races. They have a purpose like any other sentient race. They just don't go around starting wars like other races do. Their blessing does not take their social skills from them, simply the will for aggression, and without a will for aggression it is usually best for them to stay out of the affairs of other races. As far as combat goes, they don't start wars, but can defend themselves when needed. They are still capable of fighting, and actually are quite good at doing so, but they can only fight when threatened or in immediate danger. When being the aggressor, they have to use their minds rather than their blows to work through situations. Even if this means coaxing their opponent into throwing the first punch so they can defend themselves.

Interested!A general question regarding magic though, if you kill someone who has a (filled) glorin vas, is it possible to take their energy and fill your own? Do all sentient races have a glorin vas?

1. Yes, if you kill somebody with a filled glorin vas, it is possible to siphon the energy from them, although it has to be done very soon after death (max 2 mins) and is very tricky to accomplish if you do not know the person. Because each person uses magic slightly different, in order to access the glorin vas of another person you would have to understand how they use magic. This also comes into play when mages come together to work bigger and more complicated spells. In order to connect your magic to somebody else's, you must understand which of their vas wein are enlarged and which are diluted. Collecting the magic of somebody who has very recently died can be extremely tricky if you did not know the person. Navigating through their vas wein to their glorin vas can be like navigating a maze, and to solve one in under 2 minutes is VERY difficult. Along with this is the quick intake of magic I mentioned when I was talking about the aetheric geysers. Because the vas wein can only intake magic so quickly, emptying another person's glorin vas that quickly can cause temporary damage to your own vas wein, making using magic for the next few hours more difficult.

2. Yes, glorin vas can be found in every sentient race, although not every individual has a glorin vas. This means that not every is capable of using magic, while others have such tiny glorin vas and vas wein that the amount of magic they can use wouldn't even be noticeable.

Wow, those are pretty feathery. The image in my head didn't molt - well, maybe the wings - but that looks really itchy.

Eh, not so itchy, they have feathers, it's just the way they are. It's not like they complain about it cause of course they're used to it.

The falling apart is the only issue I'd have with that.........

What I am trying to say is that the more powerful the minion you are trying to raise, the more time and energy it will take. From that logic, the weaker your minions, the longer they will last and the more of them you can control. Something you would also have to take into account is whether you want quality or quantity, because 1 mage couldn't do both. If your glorin vas is large, you could raise a decent amount of weak skeleton minions (lets say 12 for example purposes). But you wouldn't be able to make more powerful minions like lets say a bone golem or a dire ghoul because your large glorin vas makes your character lack that level of control. But if you wished to raise something more powerful like the aforementioned examples you would have to have a smaller glorin vas (which means less quantity) but more control. So 1 massive bone golem or perhaps 2 dire ghouls. Do you understand what I'm saying?

is necromancy/urgy an available/viable magic type?

Yes, but only to a certain degree. A mage could raise things like skeletons or even a ghoul if he/she had enough time to do so, but they would start falling apart after a day or two, and wouldn't have any sentience whatsoever. They could make choices and perform tasks, but only at the master's whim, not individually.

I do want to know just how feathery they are though. Do they look like this or full-on tengu?

The Raevan are inbetween those two categories. Imagine a human with raven-black skin, feathers in places like under the eye, feathered hair, regular human facial features (no beak) and large feathered wings.
Imagine something like this but with regular human hands and feet.
Aaaaand here it is everybody.
Lost Lands of Ialdia OOC
CHARACTER SUBMISSIONS CLOSED, RP FULL.

WARNING: This RP is meant for adults. There will be blood, romance, and all that jazz, and if you aren't comfortable with that, then this place isn't for you.

Before We start off, there's something I want to mention. I have no intention of creating my own character for this RP. This means I will be acting solely as the director of events. I find that this makes things not only easier, but prevents me from accidentally centering events around my own character. I will be taking the roles of various important and non important characters throughout the RP to move events in certain directions, but I will not have any characters of my own.

Now, Welcome one and all to:

So, what makes TLoI different from other typical high fantasy RPs? Although the world is different and the story is completely unique, one can begin to sound like another even if neither of them have anything besides the use of a high fantasy world in common. For a solution to that problem I have created this RP with a different precedent than other high fantasy RPs. Not to say that it has never been done before, but to my knowledge this is the first I've heard of it.

THIS RP IS A PAIRED RP.

So what does that mean? It means that each of the players in this RP must have a partner. I will not decide who you will partner with, that is entirely up to you, but the rule here is that you mus have another character (controlled by a different player) that is paired with your character. There is sufficient reason and back story for this as far as the world goes, but outside the world there is also good reason for this. Not only is this approach unique, but it gives a good social dynamic to the RP. It also encourages the development of goals and purposes. You may have multiple characters here, but they CANNOT be paired with one of your other characters. So if you want to set up a second character, it has to be bound to another players character as well.

NOTE: YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO USE THIS OOC THREAD TO SEARCH FOR YOUR PARTNER. Frankly that would make things easy for me too.

To make an effective conversation or scenario work in this RP, it is HIGHLY recommended that you talk with your partner OUTSIDE this RP. This means PMs, separate threads, or any other means of communication that you deem appropriate with each other. For this reason it is entirely alright to have collaborative posts (two posts rolled into one) on a frequent basis, but there is also nothing wrong with separate posts. Something to note is that you must choose a partner BEFORE you create your character sheets. The reason for this is that in order for two characters to be linked, they must have some sort of connection to the person they are linked with. This means family, friends, lovers, or even enemies. This gives yet another good opportunity for social dynamics.

I would like some variation is the social dynamics, however. So if a pair has already posted their character sheets and lets say for example purposes they are brother and sister, try not to have that same connection between the characters in your pair. Now, if you are already in the process of creating your CS and somebody just happens to post before you with the connection you were working on it does not mean you have to re-do your entire CS, it just means you have to make things different from theirs. Although I would like variation, I won't make anyone re-do their CS unless there are some serious similarities between two different characters that are not paired.
So now with that out of the way, we can get down to the lore and back story.

Got any questions or suggestions? anything I missed? I'd love to hear it. Feel free to PM me if you need or want anything specific.
