It's been 6 years? What? WHAT YEAR IS IT!

Anyway, I'm back to take a look around! Used to be part of the Old Guild like.. 7 years ago, where I did a lot of RP. Trying my hand at this again now that I've got a lot of free time working from home.

well we won't have any people for you to partner with if you do wish to join. Everyone is currently paired up.

EDIT: Actually, we might. I have a friend that might join.
There's going to be dwarves on the ship and in the colony with you guys. Quite a few actually, as they'll be managing the excavations for the new colony.

I just can't portray dwarves ever since Dwarf Fortress. Never forget. If i did play a dwarve, he'd be a bumbling idiot who somehow always does the right thing stupidly.

I laughed super hard at this. I've never been able to climb the mount Everest of a learning curve Dwarf Fortress has, but I've read some really funny accounts of playthroughs. Here's my favorite one, if you're interested http://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/Introduction/.

Dext, what type of government does Aega have? I'm planning on having my character come from a noble family, possibly one that has some amount of political influence, if that's alright.

Aega has a Monarchy. The blessing bestowed upon humans gives them a great ambition. For this reason, the position of king/queenship is not hereditary, but rather the candidates for king/queen are run through a series of physical, emotional, mental, and magical tests. These tests are performed and overseen by the Adagent (a group of overseers and judges with extreme physical, mental, or magical aptitude). The one who performs best in all the categories (ties mean nobody is chosen) is given the title and responsibilities of leadership. Once a leader is chosen, the Adagent act as advisors for the chosen.
I would prefer that the position of your character not be the relative (near or far) of the current monarch. Perhaps they could be a relative of one of the Adagent or one of the higher noble houses. As with regular human society, noble houses are born through industry or something that provides the family with enough money to warrant titles and land, which are handled by a notary appointed by vote between the Adagent and the current Monarch.

Edit: Something I forgot to mention was that once the monarch has been in power for 2 years, the search for a new monarch begins. Since it can take multiple testing sessions to identify an ideal candidate, the testing starts as soon as possible to ensure constant leadership. If an individual is found before the current monarch passes away or relieves him/herself of power, the chosen candidate acts under the monarch to recieve further training and instruction from both the monarch and the Adagent.
Sounds good, I work 9 hr days, so I'll be on tomorrow night some time. probably like 7pm Mountain time US.
What is it you want to do, Sky? I may be able to help you find a pic.

Exactly what I was thinking Dext, sounds good. If I have a chance I'll start writing up my CS today (once I've got the character firmly set the words don't take long to come). Once Dizzy and I have sorted out everything, the remainder shouldn't take long to add.

Sounds good Krimp

Quick question:Would it be possible to make one's magical speciality the ability to stop magic? My character's first and foremost a warrior, which would render him very vulnerable to magical attacks unless he had some sort of counter. I was thinking that enlarged vas wein in the brain/head region would allow one to counter/negate the mental attacks of others? (e.g. the ability to stop an enemy spellcaster from rendering you unconscious but not allowing them to control your mind). This wouldn't stop any physical attacks - a magical blow to the head would still knock him out, and he couldn't counter a great ball of fire hurled at him (other than by running very, very fast) but it would at least stop him from being a plaything of any hostile mages.

Yes Krimp that sounds good. The ability to combat mental control could be useful and seems well balanced. It could even be something he trained not knowing he was doing magic. He could simply believe he is training his mind. That part is entirely up to you of course.

Questions about orcs:Connection seems important to them. I have it in my head that communal meals would be important. Sort of like... no matter what you're up to, you'd better be with someone for dinner. Friends, family, stop in a tavern... Eating alone would be... worrisome. Also, I'd imagine with the whole warrior culture... Maybe those who are spiritual greet the morning with a short blessing. More or less 'Thank you for another sunrise. Blessings to those who have died and are missing it.' And then in the evening. "Thank you for another sunset. Blessings to those who have died and are missing it."*shrug* Are those both ok? I love little cultural details like that. May I toss them in? I don't wanna overstep my bounds in your universe.

Communal meals seem like something that would work well across the board with orcs. Although it wouldn't be a cast-iron rule, just a superstition. Blessings could be entirely up to the individual orc, perhaps a religion of the place you were raised, but it wouldn't be race-wide.
Looks really good Feb. Looking forward to yours Sky.
I believe Nevis is still lookng for a partner, Chezka.
Thank you Krimp! I appreciate it, and I'm flattered that my RP was the one to give you the motivation to remake your account!

ahhhhh. That's the sound of relief I make that you found a partner Dizzy, perfect timing Krimp. Alright!! I hope to start seeing the other CSs role in over the next few days (no rush), I'm excited to get started! HUZZAH!

Just another reminder, the map in under the "Blessings of the sentient races" tab. Should help with geographical placement.
Also if it isn't clear, the lighter colored continent is the floating Isles, that's why it overlaps Aega and Grah-Nglak a little bit, because it's in the air!
Alright peeps, a map of Veruulis can now be found in the OP under the "Blessings of the Sentient Races" tab!
If it is needed, I can always make a character of my own and partner up with you Dizzy. A 3 pair would work against the lore, so that's not possible.

I can see that geographically there's some confusion on how the world is structured, so I'm working on a map currently. It should be up by the end of the day, I'll give you guys a heads up once I've added it to the OP.

As far as the CSs go, I like the idea of a gem mine and how that ties into magic usage. Swordfish, It'd be nice to see a little more back story on Vultog. For example, although the village only cared about camaraderie, was he at all ostracized for his heritage? What were these beasts and how did him losing his friend affect his behavior and choices going forward? What is the "Fortune of the Gods"? There's just some bits that could be more fleshed out so we get a better feeling of who Vultog is as a character, not just what he has been through. Going through tough situations is good, but somebody deals with those situations (both physically and emotionally) is more important in the long run.

I like your CS Strudel, although as I mentioned, the geographic standpoint is slightly confusing between you and Swordfish. If Linara is human, I'm slightly confused as to what she is doing in orc territory, where Vultog was raised. Considering they're different continents across the ocean. It should be cleared up once I put up the map though. Other than that though, it seems to standards.

Edit: The map is just going to be a rough representation of world locations, nothing super fancy.
If you want to have another character then that would work, yes.
