Thanks for the compliment @Exit. Glad you like it. :)

Jacob gazed at the red wastes for some time. He occasionally came up here to remind himself why he even bothered with the power plant. It wasn't for a predictable reason like he didn't want to live out there though. He had done so for years. He just didn't want a witch hunt following him across the wastes. That would just be annoying. He stared off into the distance until he heard a commotion down on the Paradise side of the wall. Just as he was glancing over, Ravenia made her way to the top of the wall, calling for the Gatekeeper. A second time on the wall for her was never a good sign, so Jacob immediately tensed up into what he considered his business personality. As expected, Ravenia came calling for him soon after she finished with the Gatekeeper. "Jacob! We are going on strict lock down for the next few days. There will be no lights allowed to be used at night, there may a horde of Dead traveling our way soon and I don't want to bring any unnecessary attention to us. I want you to shut down all outside lights leading into the city, as well. If anybody comes to you with having a problem with this, they will answer to me. Leave the medical center at full power, we will just cover up all of the windows to keep it from lighting up too brightly.", she said. Jacob curtly nodded his head and muttered "As you wish", before climbing back down the wall.

Jacob made a break for the plant's control room. And who else was on duty but freaking O'Malley. O'Malley saw him coming in and readied a snarky comment, but was cut off as Jacob started shouting, "Set the plant to city lockdown mode! Cut all power to lights but the ones in medical! Ravenia's orders!" That shut him up, as O'Malley immediately took off for the command console. He started running through the protocols, but suddenly stopped. With a voice of alarm, O'Malley said "Powers, the system is still cycling this morning's jump start! We can't power down! It will be in the system for another 2 hours." Jacob swore under his breath. There was a fix for this, but it wouldn't be pleasant, least of all for him. "We don't have time. Where is the jump start energy in the system, exactly? I'll siphon it back out." O'Malley tapped a few more keys on the console. "3rd sublevel, section 38. But Powers, that will leave the system destabilized for the next hour. Power will be all over the place." Jacob was already running out the door, as he called back "Then triage accordingly. Nonessential systems will be down for the lock-down anyway. It shouldn't be too hard."

Jacob arrived at the section of the grid the jump start was passing through. Green energy was shooting down various pipes and cables. Jacob through off his gloves, and grabbed the connection cable that led energy to the next section, and braced himself. As the green energy reached his glowing hands, Jacob sucked it back into his body. Enough energy had been pumped in to make the process painful, however, so Jacob cried out in pain as he absorbed the radiation. When he finished, Jacob staggered back, and felt his side. One big lump of a tumor now resided there, lightly pushing against his clothes. Jacob hit the intercom that led to the control room. "O'Malley, the jump-start was siphoned out. Go to lock down. I'm heading back to the wall to help with potential defense." With that, Jacob put his lead lined jacket and gloves back on, and ran for the exit.

Jacob returned to the wall to find that the gates had already closed. Everything was going according to plan. He climbed back up the wall to find Ravenia still there, along with Tobias, the doctor, Ramera, and Marcus, the gatekeeper. He spoke directly to Ravenia, saying "I have set the plant to city lock-down mode, but there was a complication in powering down. The power grid might be a bit unstable for the next hour, but with the lights off it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Sorry guys. I hit the hay early and have class now. Ill post in about an hour and a half. Try not to get too far ahead.
Just a heads up to everyone. Outside of important or business related circumstances, Jacob will not normally attempt to engage in social interaction of any kind, at least for now. If you want to interact with him, you will have to engage first.
Jacob strode confidently through the streets, keeping to himself. This wasn't much of a challenge considering that no one wanted anything to do with him anyway. People would crowd to the opposite side of the street as him, casting him foul looks, and avoiding his gaze. Fortunately, it was early, so not many were out in the first place. Regardless, Jacob kept to alleys and side streets to reduce attention. Though he didn't care for the opinion of the commons, he found their reactions annoying.

Jacob eventually reached his destination; the wall. He caught a glimpse of Ravenia leaving, so he darted back behind a corner for a second. Ravenia respected Jacob more then most in the city, but such treatment left him feeling uneasy. He wasn't used to civility. He certainly wasn't used to civil conversation outside of business matters. After she had passed out of view, he strode back towards the wall. He made his way over to a set of grappling lines. Jacob had picked up on how to use them rather quickly, but his radioactive hands had melted through a line when he was missing skin there before. He checked to make sure that his lead-lined gloves were secure, and that his coat covered his forearms. Satisfied, he made his way up the wall to meet the sunrise.
First IC post up. Sorry if its a bit dry.
Jacob woke to the same sensation as always; a metallic taste in his mouth. Such a feeling was common when one lived inside a nuclear power plant, however. He swung his legs over to the floor, and drank from a water bottle at his desk. He glanced around his room. It was a small, metal chamber, with only a bed, a desk, a terminal with info on the reactor, and a small closet. On the floor that led to the small metal door of his room, was a note. That meant one thing. Someone screwed up the reactor. Again. And since most of the radiation suits were faulty, the only one who was able to fix it was him. He read the note. In a very unpleasant script, it said, Powers, the reactor discharged last night and we need to give it a jump-start before it gives out. You know the drill. O'Malley. Jacob sighed with annoyance. Why couldn't anyone manage the goddamn reactor without him?

Jacob walked out of his door into a long, metal hallway. He walked down a few doors before walking into the restroom. He splashed his face with water to wake himself up. It was going to be a long day, he guessed. He walked down a few more winding hallways before coming up to the nuclear waste disposal site in the plant. Jacob planned to charge up from the depleted waste sources the city left here, and use it to charge the reactor. The type of radiation didn't matter to him. It recharged in his system. Jacob walked through the decontamination seal, completely ignoring the warnings of "wear protective clothing". He had found he was immune to outside radiation a long time ago.

Jacob walked through the tank that served as the radioactive waste disposal site. All around him, the metallic objects of no description and barrels began to shimmer with a green glow, and waves of energy poured from them into Jacob. If he had done this a few years ago, it would have hurt like hell. However, constant radioactive exposure had dulled his sense to the pain it caused. After about 10 minutes, he walked back into the decontamination zone. As the room was cleaned, Jacob checked his body. Three tumors had formed on each arm, each about the size of a tennis ball. That would be enough to jump-start the reactor, but it wouldn't be pleasant for him.

Jacob walked down to the reactor level. As he neared the door, the unsightly face of O'Malley was waiting for him. "Where the hell have you been, huh? We called you half an hour ago, you goddamn freak." Jacob just ignored him, shoving him aside and walking up to the reactor room. The decontamination process cleaned the room between, and he entered. The reactor core was a cluster of uranium nodes in the center of the room. The nodes would have depleted long ago if not for Jacob's constant intervention. With a grimace, he walked up to the nodes, and grabbed hold of them. Green energy pumped out of his hands, and into the nodes, jump-starting the reactions. After about 30 seconds,Jacob let go and stumbled back, panting with exhaustion. The skin on his arms had burnt off from his hands to about halfway down his forearms, leaving nothing but a glowing bone structure. He stumbled back through the decontamination room, and headed back to his room, ignoring the stares he received.

Jacob changed into a long sleeved jacket, and put on lead lined gloves he wore when he had used his powers recently. His skin would grow back in about 2 hours. He drank some more water, and choked down a stale bagel from his bag. Suddenly sick of the cramped, metal corridors of the power plant, Jacob made his way outside, to wander the city of the Paradise Lands.

:.People Say.:
Jacob talks to no one. Period. It doesn't help that his "gift" leaves him shunned by most of the city. If you can somehow get a word out of him, he is curt, and to the point. He doesn't enjoy social interaction, and he won't tell you his life story because you asked nicely. Given the choice, he would keep to himself. Which is good, because the city doesn't give him a choice and avoids him anyway. If you somehow managed to get on his good side, however, he would at least tolerate your presence, and maybe even say something.
:.The Past Was.:
Jacob doesn't remember much of his early life. His first distinct memory is his father carrying him through a long metal corridor, with a loud noise in the background. His next one is him lying in the red wastes next to his father. He wasn't moving. He was then picked up by another man, who Jacob would come to know as Miles. Miles and Jacob walked through the red wastes together from then on, always moving from camp to camp. Miles taught him how to survive in the wastes on their own; how to find food and clean(ish) water. How to fight bandits. Most importantly, he learned how to avoid the Dead. Miles also taught Jacob about technology, and showed him how to work a few strange devices he carried with him, including a portable water purifier.

When Jacob was twelve, life as he knew it shattered. A bandit group that they had stolen food from when they were desperate caught up with them and captured them. They executed Miles immediately, and in front of Jacob. They were preparing to throw Jacob to the dead when he suddenly screamed in pain. Massive amounts of radiation poured out of Jacob, killing everyone in the camp and reducing Jacob to a glowing skeleton. Only he wasn't dead. But Jacob couldn't reflect on this miracle, as the dead were closing in. Jacob grabbed what supplies he could, and ran without looking back.

For two years, Jacob survived on his own, without any assistance from anyone. He found that his skin was growing back from his "incident", and he could discharge and absorb radiation at will, though it screwed up his body. He found he was unaffected by outside radiation now, so he began to hunt with his new powers. This left him in a constant state of disfigurement, with parts of his skin missing. Eventually, he chanced upon the Paradise Lands. He stumbled up to the walls half a skeleton, and was nearly shot because his looked like one of the dead. It turned out he was one of the "blessed ones". However, his power proved "controversial", as it represented the very thing rotting the world. Fortunately, a compromise was reached. Due to his knowledge of technology, Jacob would be allowed to stay as a blessed one so long as he used his power to maintain the nuclear power plant to help power the city.
:.What You See.:

:.Behind The Scenes.:
Jacob's constantly regrowing skin has left him with no unique skin marks of any. He has completely unblemished skin. At least, when he has skin.
I like it. I'll write up a character post.
