I can't tell you how big a relief that is to hear. Since SAO itself could pretty much be dubbed over with Linkin Park lyrics and not lose any of its meaning, a lot of RPs go way overboard with the drama. I'd love to join a thread where the characters aren't all wither whiny 15 year olds or maddeningly superior chuunis. At any rate, you have my cigar.

I'll lodge my tentative interest and a question; since the entirety of SAO was just one massive emo clusterfuck, will we be dealing with insane amounts of edgeiness or is there a preference for more human characters? I like the idea you've got for the plot, but I'm concerned that it might devolve into omg mah gurlfrend is in cooma emo darkshit angst etc etc. In other words, will we have to deal with Kiritofag expys and OTT drama? I understand that this might come across as confrontational or mocking, but it is a serious point that kills a hell of a lot of SAO RPs.

First I have to say that this post made me laugh. Like..I couldn't type at first because I kept looking back up at your post and I would just lose it. You didn't come across as mocking to me! I actually understand where you are coming from. I hated the whole emo feel in SAO. When it wasn't present was when I really enjoyed the show! I suppose it could be that if something does happen to a character that has a significant other they can either make a short post about it or..I dunno talk about it PM. While I would like to see some emotion I don't want the RP to be ALL emotion. By emotion I mean that emo stuff xD I don't really know if that makes sense. So basically all I can say is that No, it will not turn to something like that lol.

ALFheim Online: Stuck in Limbo

I'm a recent SAO fan and I have some interest in this RP. As a long-time ex-MMORPG player, I've also been put off by the lack of magic in SAO and its RPs so I've been looking for one based on ALFheim. But since I'm a strictly one-RP-at-a-time RPer and I'm currently interested in another RP, I have 2 quick questions for our GM so I can decide which to join: 1. Because magic spells were introduced to ALO and it's unlikely that every spell in the game was named in the anime or the light novels (and other sources), what's your stance on player spell selection: A - Strictly stick to canon spells, B - Allow player-made spells. Same question applies to non-magic skills. 2. Because it's unusual for players of different races to work together due to the race vs race PvP, what would our character's motivation to work together be? (since people are most likely going to be picking varying races for their characters). There doesn't have to be a concrete answer to this question, we could just RP it out and improvise of course. Thank you.

For the magical spells I was going to allow players to choose from a pool of known canon spells and then maybe one or two..or three spells of their own creation. Those spells made my players will be under heavy scrutiny though as to make sure they aren't too OP. I wouldn't allow someone to have a spell that just instantly wiped out a huge group of mobs or something. Or a spell that put a permanent status effect on another player. Things like that. For the second question I haven't really thought about that. I was planning on having all of our characters spoken to by an official who is looking into issues, Like Kirito for GGO, but I quickly decided against that. I was hoping player backstory would come into play somewhat here to help develop it. But other than that I was just wanting it to develop over time. I hope that answers your questions :) I appreciate you looking into this thread :D By the way, I like your avatar :D

Okay... I just want to say for starters that I've been wanting to try and ALFheim RP for a lot of time, but, well, college didn't let me until recently that my schedule has become a bit more leisurely paced, so yeah... Anyhow, I must agree with you in the fact that I think ALFheim has much more lore to part from and a bit more cool system, with the additions they made in SAO II and I wanna throw my interest in. But this raises a question, though, the 'new' NerveGear you talk about here is really the AmuSphere, no? It just got me a bit confused there, so I just wanna clear up that. :P

Now I know what most of you are thinking. "Oh look. Another SAO RP interest thread thing. As if that hasn't been posted before." To that I say, "Yeah..you're right." I have seen a large number of SAO themed RPs pop up around this site and some of them end up taking off...but too many times I've watched them tank or not even get started. I would know because I was a part of one that didn't even get past the Town of Beginnings portion. If you did click on this thread then you obviously enjoyed the show and would like to participate in a good SAO style RP. Or..you were just curious about what the title was about. If you are part of the latter...welcome! Now go watch the show! Now I was rather hesitant to try and start this up but I kind of made a last minute decision on the idea of, "What could happen?" So, here goes. I am going to try and start up an SAO RP but I am going to implement a few changes into the theme a bit. For starters, this RP will not be taking place in the actual Sword Art Online game. But, it will take place in ALFheim Online a few months after the end of Season 2. Or..well the last episode we have. I know it's kind of split on which game is better than the other but personally I prefer ALFheim. It has more races and MAGIC. So yeah. This RP will have a definite plot. I'll just post a short version here and let it actually develop in the actual RP. The plot is based around strange occurrences happening in the ALFheim game. It all started with a noticeable glitch in the Cardinal System that runs the game. The glitch seemed to cause no problems and the engineering team was able to remedy the problem fairly quickly with the game only being down for two to three hours of scheduled maintenance. Weeks passed after this glitch happened and small reports started to come up that a few people who were using the new Amusphere to play ALFheim were not waking up after they logged out. These individuals who were reported in were taken to the nearest hospital and it was there they discovered these patients weren't dead. They were simply stuck in a coma, with the Amusphere stuck in a permanent "On" state. One doctor reported that even when he pulled plug on the Amusphere the lights stayed on and it continued to operate. As if it had no battery life anymore. The numbers of patients stuck like this are very very low at the moment. Estimated about 100 players or so stuck like this. But that's not the end. Friends of these players would report seeing their old avatars around various locations where they spent most of their time. Such as, dungeon planning spots, player homes, Guild bases. But their avatars seemed bland and as if they didn't remember anything. No one is sure why these things are happening to players. But that hasn't stopped the millions from playing the game on a daily basis. --- And basically it will be up to our characters to figure out what is going on! Like I said, that is the short version. Since this is just an IC I won't post any Character Sheets or anything until I have a few players interested in doing this. Please comment below or PM me if you are interested. That being said, he is one to really delve into character as soon as he logs in. He will only go by his name and really try his best to play the part. He made his character as a DPS and he takes pride in knowing the massive amounts of damage he can cause to bosses and enemies. He always prefers to fight with others and will always try to party up. He loves parties and having fun but he can get serious when it comes to dungeon raids and bosses. When in combat he prefers to keep quiet. But out of combat he is rather talkative.
