Derek's mom was a prostitute, so sex was introduced to him before love was, making things a bit awkward. His father is a demon and doesn't care what he does. This, combined with depression and long hair, has given Derek a very calm, passive attitude. He is very rarely angry, but it's also hard for him to find true affection.
