Nathan Mitra was on his last leg in his career. He had spent five scientific years of researching, experimenting, and traveling, though he had not turned up, in the lovely governing words of the colony, “any useful products for the fleet”. It was complete and utter nonsense to Nathan. He had brought forth countless new reports of bacterial life forms on other planets, and even some leads on other possible, more intelligent lifeforms—and yet the committee had denied every request to further investigate. In other words, the fleet was only interested in finding information on planet resources. That was all the fleet was ever interested in, unless Nathan's life form studies could cure every disease in outer space.

There was one last planet he was assigned to see if it obtained any useful substances, it was boring, but Nathan had to do it or else the government took away the funding to everything...and that included his ship, his supplies, and lab. Not to mention his job, of course.

Nathan arrived at the planet, which had a name that just consisted of numbers, with the proper gear and equipment for testing in his backpack. It was mostly surrounded by water so Nathan landed in what looked like a mountain, which the radar signaled was a cave. Nathan had been walking for about an hour, taking some samples along the way, when he finally noticed the sound of running water. Though he really shouldn't be doing it, he wanted to take a sample of the water in this planet and check for any bacterial life, though the entire cave was fairly dark. He held a flashlight up to his bag in order to make sure he could see his equipment and make sure he didn't fall into the water. Nathan settled by a small stream and prepared to take some samples, completely unaware of any other surroundings besides the water.
Suddenly, the sound of the comm link disrupted their pleasant breakfast after getting completely hammered the night before. Matt heard Daemon yelling and just sighed, then proceeded to stuff the rest of the pasta in his mouth. Daemon ran off to go get dressed, and when he came back, Matt had finished his breakfast and managed to find a bottle of aspirin laying around in a new time record. Typical morning as a H.U.N.T agent, he supposed. Daemon was fully dressed and Matt smirked, somehow reminding himself about the first day he had worked with Daemon, before running off to the living room. “Just because I'm a 'boyscout' doesn't mean I'm going to wimp out.” He began calling out to Daemon from the living room. As quickly as he could, he found his uniform behind the couch and started getting dressed in a flash. Matt leaned against the wall and started pulling his boots on. “I'm ready whenever you're ready.” He looked up at Daemon, now Lucid, thought still adjusting the straps of his shoes.
"O-Oh, I see..." Matt trailed off while he watched the business card disappear right under his nose. That wasn't suspicious at all. He would have given Daemon's excuse a bit more thought but he was hungry and groggy. "Sorry 'bout the accident..." Matt rubbed his eyes and clapped his hands together. "Alright, well we've done enough lollygagging today! I'm gonna make something quick to eat--oh, and I'll get you a glass of water." Matt rushed to the kitchen and started getting silverware out. The state of the ingredients in Daemon's apartment really needed some stocking if he was going to be eating here in the mornings. Matt ate all the bread in the house the other day, so the only thing he managed to find was leftovers of what looked like pasta, which he had no other choice to eat. Didn't taste half bad for probably being a boxed dinner. Matt sat down at the living room table and paused to look up at Daemon. He slid a glass of water over to his co-worker. "Oh yeah, I forgot...you can call me Matt, by the way. That's my actual name." He chuckled casually and continued to eat his breakfast, mumbling, "I actually kind of like this..."
(oh my god dude i miss this RP so much and im inspired to conTINUE WITH THIS I MISS OUR BABBBIEEESSS <333) With that, Matt got up with the most quickest reflex ever used in the past 24 hours. He was flustered but still managed to laugh. “M-My real name?” He mumbled out still shocked that Daemon was fully awake now, so he let out a cough. The touch of Daemon still lingered on him, and he didn't actually mind it, in fact he kind of liked it, and that was the weirdest part of this whole situation. “Wow, it sure is late...and alcohol, well that was such a bad idea haha let's vow to not do that again...” Matt tried to erase that previous moment while attempting to clean up the mess that was left in the room. He had no idea why he was tiptoeing around the whole name situation, it wasn't even that big of a deal. Hell, he could just say it right now and it wouldn't matter. What was he afraid of? Matt casually threw the bottles away, but paused after noticing a card neatly placed on the table. “Detective Brooks...?”
When Matt got up, he felt very warm...but strangely uncomfortable. When the blurriness had left his eyes and he could see the room clearly, he noticed it was still in a mess from the night before. One vodka bottle was on the floor, another was one a table—Matt gasped for a moment. He was on the floor. He didn't any clothes on, well, minus the boxers. He was sleeping on top of Daemon, who, thank God was wearing clothes though. Matt let out an exasperated sigh and reminded himself to never to get drunk ever again.

As quickly as he could, Matt tried to get his upper body off the floor, but failed miserably after hitting his head against the edge of the table. “Ow—CHRIST!!!” Matt shrieked loudly and clutched his head, trying to get over the pain, which felt ten times worse due to having a extreme headache. He could have sworn that table was not like that the night before...and speaking of that night, where was Hadrian? Matt glanced around the room and didn't see any traces of him anywhere.

When the pain finally subsided, Matt could hear noticeable breaths coming from Daemon below him. Matt tried to get up from the position, but as a result ended up feeling up his chest while trying to take a grasp on the couch. Oh great, this was going to be awkward.
When they sat on the bench, Carter absorbed what Asa was saying and didn't say anything. He didn't know how to respond, but what Asa said was true. After hearing his mate speak, he realized didn't think about it like that. It completed the bigger picture that made the mundanes so...different from them.

Asa rested his head on Carter's shoulders, much like he did when they were children and Carter would console him. And after dating for as long as they have, their gestures towards each other never changed either. "Family doesn't stop at blood for the Uisilons, but it seems like up here, with the Mundanes, it doesn't even start with blood. And I can't handle that, can't live up here, knowing that."

Carter thought for a moment, then nodded. “To be honest...I feel exactly like that too.” He looked up at the sunny sky though his sunglasses and let Asa rest on him for a while. “Home is where the heart is, like that Mundane saying, I guess.” He smirked. When they finished their deep conversation, Carter felt like it was enough of philosophical talk, so he got up and stretched.

“Well I don't know about you, but I'm starving. As much as we babbled there about the mundanes, though...” Carter shuffled through his pockets and took out a little bit of Mundane money. “They do make some pretty damn good food.” He only had 10 bucks to spend that he earned after bumping into an old lady paid that him to carry some of his groceries. If there was ever anything they needed to buy, it'd be food. Or at least, that was Carter's opinion. He just really liked food.

Carter contemplated going back to their living place and bringing everyone else to get food, but...he just wanted to be alone with Asa for a bit. They walked to a nearby coffee shop that always had a pleasant aroma coming from it. Carter grew excited as they looked at the glass window with the baked goods. The cashier seemed to walk away just as they arrived, so they had some time to look at what they wanted to buy.

“Let's see if there's anything we can bring back for the rest of the group...” Carter trailed, looking at all the different items up for sale. He noticed a bunch of circular rings that immediately caught his eye. There was a sale for a package of 10 for 7.99.

“Hey, look at these colorful glazed ring bread things!” He then stared at the label and raised an eyebrow questionably. “Oh. Doughnuts.” He mumbled and glanced at Asa. “You see anything that you like?”

He couldn't believe it, but they were finally on the surface. All of their work that went towards this
moment had finally arrived...but it was far from being over.

Carter walked alongside Asa, both wearing sunglasses and trying to look the least suspicious among the Mundanes. Carter didn't know what he expected up on the surface, the way the Mundanes acted didn't seem all that different from themselves. The way their world worked, however, was obviously distinctive. All that was fed to their people was the lie that they were merely terrorists without anything behind their reasoning.

There was a strange, uncomfortable feeling circulating in his stomach. The feeling had lingered there ever since they came up, and it was hindering his mood. At first he thought he was just simple anxiety, but he was now beginning to realize what it meant.

While Carter was deep in thought for too long, Asa was the one that got his attention, asking him what was on his mind. He had almost forgotten his presence for a brief moment, but the grip on his hands was a pleasant reminder of who was by his side. He was extremely grateful to be able to share this moment, this change, with Asa, whom he loved dearly. Though, no doubt about it, the way this was going to play out wasn't going to be a piece of cake, but he had faith in them all.

Carter didn't answer for a moment, trying to think about how to put it into words. He tightened his hands around Asa's a bit more. His hands were growing more warm as his thoughts lingered. Carter wasn't usually a deep thinker, but due to all this change he never got the chance to sit down and think about things.

"Not really sure how to put it." He uttered out, feeling like there was no other choice than to say what needed to be said. He thought about making up some crap about a migraine, and he might have been able to pass with that, but Asa was the only person who he could talk to and not feel like he bruised his pride. There was no reason to lie about it. He was always open and honest when it came to his mate.

"It's just kind of scary, you know? Having to face it, actually coming up here and realizing that it's true." His voice then became more quieter as he continued, paranoid that someone would overhear it.
"To them, we really don't exist. That complete ignorance, it's..." He trailed off, then glanced to the side to look at the musicians on the street. That ignorance reminded him of himself for so many years, thinking back on it, a part of him was still bitter about it.
