What a coincidence! I need to test a character I've had for about a month now.

As promised, I will make a character here.

Name: Daaniel Margaine, male. Age 37

Race: Sabaatican, born in the void of space, on the trade ship Moonstrider

Trademark weapon: a tri-bolt plasma rifle that fires a three burst shot.

Personality: Rather personable, but not comfortable in large groups. Generally a rather accepting guy, but not too naive. when faces with a lot of pressure, he can get rather stressed out and antsy, to the point of freezing up. However, he can still handle himself in a fight. Always has a helping hand.

He is 6'2", brown haired pulled into a shortened, traditional topknot. Lanky, but with tight, whiplike muscles, has painful scar tissue on left shin from the war.

Backstory: Daaniel was born in the fifth month, ninth day (standard time). His mother was an engineer, his father was an enforcer in the planetary defense force. The youngest of three children, he lived the first fifteen years of his life in a trader's vessel stationed outside Crisis-IV. He was always more comfortable on his own, but what friends he had were very close to him. He left his immediate family with his aunt to live on the planets surface after his father suffered a debilitating shot to the chest. During his first year of staying planetside, he learned about the amount of corruption in the continents bureaucratic class from his fathers friend, a former administration official, turned informant to his father. It was then he joined a group trying to "purify" the government.
Ten years later, the nineteenth Tech-Crusade was started by the Tehtraan, and the entire sector was turned into a battlefield. Daaniel joined to Imperial Army at age 27, and served as a bodyguard for a captain of the Navy. There, he served for a month until the ship was destroyed, and he and his captain escaped. He was then sent to the front lines as a sergeant, where he quickly became known for leading his soldiers using stealth and infiltration tactics. After four grueling months, he underwent his final transfer into the Hunter-Killer squads, used for taking out high-profile targets like Brain-Engines and Tech-Bishops. However, during his tenth mission, he disobeyed orders and set off an EMP, killing many enemies and saving many lives in the process. However, his actions also destroyed the machines used in the frontline hospital, killing thirty people civilians and soldiers. He was put on trial for manslaughter, but was spared that sentence, and was dishonorably discharged from service. When the war ended, he was contacted by the organisation known as the Interface, who were looking for former military members to add to their ranks. He joyfully accepted.
Currently, Daaniel is a captain of the second of five Bounty Hunter companies stationed in the sector. He married a human, but the strains of birth ended her life, and he now lives with his five year old son, Arthur, and his adopted venusian son Tel' Phurn, age nine.
If you wanted to play this RP (http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/37761/posts/ooc), then this is the character creation sheet. Use it wisely. When you make a character, post it in the comment section. I will make a character and do likewise. When enough people make a character, we will start.

Character Personality: Use the races chart to aid with this. Some personalities are near impossible (like a socialite Martian.) Mary Sues are subject to termination.

General look: What do they look like?

Backstory: Preferably two to four paragraphs long, tell me why your character is a bounty hunter. As a recommendation, try to stay away from the whole "My family is dead, hunting the person who did the crime, truth and justice and honor and grimdark and blah". Please make a reasonably realistic backstory. Or at least as reasonable as you can get in a sci-fi setting. This is also the name you give them.

Rank: you will be assigned a rank in the organization.

Well, since it's cold as shit, several diseases would have actually died off as either all of their carriers died or the microbes themselves couldn't take the cold. I'd have to do some research on the matter, but infection isn't impossible. No zombies, that has nothing to do with the plot, though several animals that used to live near the polar regions would have likely emigrated closer to the mid-latitudes, things like wolves, polar bears, arctic foxes, etc. I'm still thinking through the details, but if this garners enough interest I'll get to it.

so the world became radioactive Alaska essentially?
I'll join. Is there anything you need to know?
Just one question. Are there zombies or an equivalent? I don't mind them, but it's a little overdone for post-apoc. settings.

Query: In adventure mode it is possible to start as a species other than Dorfs. Can we start as any Dorf-equivalent species? No Bronze Colossi or Voracious Cave Crawlers - Humans, Goblins, Kobolds, Blendecs, that sort of thing. Necromancers are also likely far too OP, but what about other creature states such as werebeasts, vampires, ghosts?

Yes, but you would probably start in a different location, but nearby the dorf's fort. I don't know about werebeasts or vampires, yet.
But that isn't a no, so I'll consider it. However, I know for certain that there will be no playing as a goblin.
So me and a friend made rules for a (albiet very basic) tabletop compatible version of Dwarf Fortress.
I have the map made out, but the game is, you play as a Dwarf explorer. I would play as a GM.
The majority of roleplaying will be for you, I only enact events, GMPC, NPCs, and the like.

Random events (rolled every week) are used to add even more Fun than what you'd normally get!
Nothing Happens-nothing out of the ordinary occurs
Heavy Rains- even more rain falls, and it can quickly kill certain crops, and cause natural disasters like floods or mudslides.
Eruption-pockets of underground gasses erupt.
Goblin Raid- goblins sweep through the land, raiding small villages and the like.
Megabeast found- scouts or allies have found a nearby Megabeast. There are three so far. There is the Roc, a giant bird that can carry off livestock(or a dwarf if you are not careful), the Dragon, a large, firebreathing monster, and the Bronze Colossus, which is very hard to kill.
Elf Raid(only after elves send diplomats to you)- elf raids are not common, but are always swift and brutal.
Natural disaster- tidal waves, meteor, volcano, earthquake, and extreme thunderstorm
Plague- Various diseases, which are hard to cure.
Zombie Plague- when a plague is marked with a "Z", it has a sixty percent chance to reanimate the corpse into a bloodthirsty zombie.
War starts- a war between any of the races will start, doesn't directly affect you instantly.(Human vs. Elves, Human vs. Human, Kobold vs.Goblin, etc.)
Greater Threat found- A Greater Threat is found.
The greater threats are as follows.
Forgotten beasts- these monsters are quite large, and no two are alike, except that they are all underground, and they all crave Dwarf flesh
Demons(only after unsealing a gate to Hell)- Monsters that carry plague, and are nigh unstoppable.
Titans- above ground Forgotten Beasts, less strong due to exposure to the sun, but no less destructive.
Night Creatures- Like boogeymen, but they steal anyone from a civilized nation.

Other creatures, like animals, or minor beasts, will be shown when you find one.

They're not Mary-sue's. :PTheir stats often suck compared to some characters... Or may I need remind people of Haar?

A Mary sue is a character without moral flaw, relatively overpowered, and loved by many people... Marth, Ephraim, Caeda, any female Manakete in any game.
