Vates - Sector Zero

Vates found himself sat on the cold concrete like floor outside of the barracks that he was assigned to. He was sat with a group of his fellow squad mates, all of which seemed just as tired or (in many cases) even more so. They all stretched out like cats against the refreshingly cold floor, sipping at their water flasks, trying to recover from the strenuous activities they had been engaged in all day. Vates had done well at every stage, and apart from the stage when he had to do weights, he was consistently one of the best performers. Many had been surprised by had good he was at hand-to-hand, capable of taking down most in the squad; however whilst he was alright with his blades, Roebuck suggested he might be better suited to a longer weapon like a spear because his strength failed against heavy blows.

Vates was propped up against a wall and was facing away from his new friends and their assorted conversations, and towards the spectacle a short distance away. He listened as Hector announced the various squads and the abilities of each member within them. "It makes you wonder what we would be capable off if we absorbed spirits like many of them must do." Janus said, his voice taking on an unusual coldness and flatness. Before Vates could even register what Janus had said a large thumping begun shaking the ground around them - something big was approaching.

Finger steady. Shoulders loose. Sight on target, aim adjusted for wind, drag and time. It was an officer, a cruel bastard. He was renown for his ability to claw information out of his victims. He had been useful to her, but she was wasn't on his side anymore. Draws one breath and holds it. Finger tightens. Targets dead. She'll be long gone by the time his men even realise where the shot came from.

Name: Sonja Morecott

Appearance: Stands at around 5ft8 and always wears her black hair in the same way. She, like many snatchers, wears black around her eyes and wears dark lipstick to compliment this. She tends to wear a grey buttoned shirt, black trousers, a black suit vest and a dark ladies long coat over the top. Were it not for the various tears and all around scruffiness she might have been able to pass as a fashionable business woman, but instead she looked like some crazy woman who had stolen some clothes and spent a few days living in the mud (which in all fairness was pretty close to the truth).

Age: 21

What Are You?: Pureblood Snatcher

House: Attended Durmstrang Institute

Bio: Sonja was born the only child of Marcus Morecott and Olivia Karkaroff, both of which were pureblood wizards themselves. Marcus Morecott was born in England and attended Hogwarts under Ravenclaw house. Not long after graduating he moved to Norway and begun working for Norway’s Department of Magical Transportation. Olivia Karkaroff was the younger sister of Igor Karkaroff and was part of a family that had strong beliefs regarding Wizarding Purity. She became a herbalist and eventually met and married Marcus.

Sonja’s early life was rather typical for pureblood and she was raised to share in her mother’s beliefs regarding purity; such beliefs were further ingrained in her when she attended the Durmstrang Institute. Her family life was at times unpleasant however for her mother often subjected her husband to vicious verbal abuse, something which caused her to begin to dislike both her parents; she hated her mother for the way she treated her father, but she also felt disappointed by her father’s ‘weakness’. Even at an early age she was slightly bitter and became something of bully to other students, but managed to avoid punishment due to being a well performing student. Some also accused her of being treated favourably due to being the headmaster’s niece, however this wasn’t true as their family distanced themselves from him after he betrayed the dark lord.

She became increasingly skilled at the dark arts as she got older and gained a reputation as an aggressive dueller. She however did poorly in areas such as healing, herbology and charms. Due much to her father’s experience and teaching she became incredibly skilled when it came to Apparition. After graduating she began working with her father for the Norwegian Department of Magical Transportation, a job she didn’t particularly want to go into.

Her whole life changed on one dark evening when she accompanied her father to a muggle inhabited area to check reports that the Knight bus was not servicing certain areas. Whilst failing to hail the bus the pair was approached by a few muggers that seemed to take a very keen interest in Sonja. Sonja wanted to fight them off or at the very least use apparition to escape, but her father didn’t allow it for he knew better than to use magic in front of muggles. Instead the pair made for a nearby underpass and planned to use the spell once they managed to escape their follower’s line of sight. However what the pair didn’t realise was that the muggers intended to chase them into the underpass for a couple more waited in its dark crevices. Marcus was pounced upon as they entered it and didn’t get a chance to defend himself before he was ruthlessly stabbed to death. Sonja however was able to fight them off by using the Killing Curse, and where her father’s killing was concerned the Cruciatus Curse. She tried to help her father but it was too late. Because of this she developed a deep hate of all muggles, which also reinforced her existing dislike of mud-bloods. Knowing she would face imprisonment for what she had done she fled the country and went to Britain (for she spoke fluent English and knew that if anywhere, it would be the best place to try and join the death eaters).

Personality: Sonja is a cold, bitter and harsh woman. She is opinionated and strong willed to the point that many wouldn’t dare argue with her. Her hatred of muggles and mud-bloods is very apparent and she seems to take enjoyment in causing either suffering. Despite travelling with other snatchers, she is somewhat of a loner (by choice) and doesn’t make friends easily.

Wand Type: 11’’ Pine with phoenix feather core.

Special Talents: Proficient dueller and practitioner of the dark arts. Near mastery of apparition. She is also able to use the silencing charm.

Fears/Weaknesses: Overly aggressive in a fight, rarely using defensive magic. Next to no-one she can really rely on. Weak when it comes to healing spells, herbology and many charms. Very short temper.
