I think I might start this Thursday evening/Friday morning. I won't be able to post Friday evening or for the most part of Saturday though; as long as people don't get too far ahead this should work out because it'll give people time to post.

Also remember that characters need to catch my Warden's attention, so don't expect to just sit around in the shadows and be randomly selected :P That's why I said about people having their own starting plots.

Oh you aren't retarded. Just special in a mentally deficient way! Like a unicorn on acid!

And to be fair, that's the best kind of unicorn.

We're still waiting on a couple of people to show signs of activity. But I'd like to get this started before Friday midday.
Go to the post that includes your character and click edit. Then copy the entire character sheet (including the code) and past it into the CS list.
Could everyone please PM me in regards to whether they would like me to recruit them earlier or later. It might not make a difference but at least I show that I kind of care :P

Also, when does everyone want to start?

Well, 'strong' is a rather undefined term, You would expect someone like Mhari to survive the joining, and well, spoiler alert, she doesn't.EDIT: Not to mention if a fool like Anders can become a Warden, anyone can become a warden

OOC is up by the way (and it's exactly the same as the interest check)! If your character has been accepted and isn't in need of any changes then please post them in the CS list :)

Dragon Age: The Coming Blight

It is the 29th year of the Dragon Age
Darkspawn sightings have been increasing
and some say a Blight is coming

Current GM(s): Fat Boy Kyle
Current Co-GM(s): None
Status: About to start
Characters: Sheets

Players will begin scattered throughout Ferelden and will initially be doing their own thing, following their own plots and so forth. As things progress however they will be recruited by the GM's character and help the Grey Wardens. They might not necessarily go through the joining ritual as players will have to prove themselves strong enough first; because of the high mortality rate I can't just let everyone join (it does provide players with a chance to kill their characters and make another though). The RP will have a few major plots put in play by the GM but for the most part players will have a voice in what they do. There will be time-skips here and there simply because the time it's supposed to take to travel from one location to another, that is of course unless players object.

The long term goal for this RP is for the Wardens to prepare for and fight in the Battle of Ostagar. This will mark the end of the RP but necessarily the end of your characters (depending on the success of the RP I already have sequel ideas in mind).

Please keep things both as cannon and realistic as possible. Good sites to look at include the Bioware site, the Dragon Age site and the Dragon Age Wikia. For now players may only have one character, but may make/use NPCs.

We currently have 1 space left. If you wish to join however then please PM me a CS sheet and I'll let you know when a space pops up!

Okay, so I'm not going to go into great detail here as you should already be familiar with standard rules and decency:

  • Respect each-other both in the IC and OOC. Banter is fine, but if you start to get bitchy so will I! You're characters don't have to like each other either, but don't let OOC things interfere with the plots and always consult others before posting about their characters or their devices.

  • For now just one character. I'm fairly liberal in regards to race, just no Darkspawn (yet) and keep it cannon. You want to be a fairly talented fighter/mage? Fine, it makes sense if you're getting chosen to join the wardens but don't go over board; I'd rather you start off as someone with potential and grow over the rp.

  • It's an RP so we're going to be bending timelines and plots, but please try to keep things as cannon as possible. I will reward you with 'Fat Boy Points' if you are to cleverly work your own plots into the cannon and impress me.

  • No killing characters without permission. This includes your characters, other player's characters, and NPCs that are being used frequently by other players. Of course feel free to make dozens of your own NPCs to kill at your hearts content.

  • Everyone makes grammar mistakes here and there, so I'm not expecting you all to write perfectly. However, expect to be picked up on if you get a bit slack. Posts should be strictly in the past tense (unless there's a rare first-person flashback or something). I'm also a fan of splitting paragraphs when different people speak. If grammar is consistently awful to the point that I can no longer be bothered to read it then I will be harsh and kick you out of the RP.

  • AND LASTLY! ACTIVITY! For you to remain in this RP you must post at least once a week in the IC, or a couple of times in the OOC to explain why you can't post. You get one second chance then you're out. I do however understand that life and external factors can keep you away easily, so if you get booted but want to rejoin then please do message me. Similarly if you know you're going to be away then please just tell us and there shouldn't be a problem.
We begin the story in the land of Ferelden one year before the Battle of Ostagar and the events of Dragon Age: Origins. There has been an increase in Darkspawn activity in the Deep Roads and there have been more and more reports of Darkspawn on the surface. Whilst no one is keen to jump to conclusions, some are beginning to spread rumours of a Blight. Asides from this there are many odd things happening throughout the land including the reemergence of dragons, a surge in blood magic activity, strange sightings off the eastern coast, and serious crime problems.

As things stand there are only a small group of Wardens in Ferelden led by the Warden-Commander Duncan. They have no real base save for their compound in Denerim and many think they are no longer needed. Now as people have begun to whisper of a Blight the Wardens now look to increase their numbers, gather resources, and convince people to prepare for war. There are other Wardens outside of Ferelden who are not too far but they have their own problems and it is still unclear whether or not a Blight is actually looming.
A) Scullery maid is the lowest of the low. The chantry accepts almost anyone as a Lay Sister. My original intention was for her to serve under an Orlesian Arl, but clearly my character isn't old enough for that. I will change it so that she will be 36 instead of 27

Fair enough, I just thought her low status might have given you some more depth to work with.

    The Fated Fallen said
    A) Due to the rebellion (which is Ferelden gaining independence lead by King Maric Theiren) diplomatic relations with Ferelden may not have allowed armed Templars to enter Ferelden (even at the Chantry's behest). The reason nobody found out my character was a Mage was because she herself had no idea. It took a demon for her to remember. However once the Rebellion had been won the Templars came and attacked her. As for when she beat them they didn't attack her again, I'm uncertain. She could be protected in the Alienage by the other elves but there is some time before that where she was vulnerable.

I don't know what impact the conflict had on the Chantry/Templars entering Ferelden to be honest. But even if you're right then how did your character meet and marry a templar? The bigger question I feel compelled to ask is: how did your character forget she was a mage? If you add some more detail to these points it might make it easier for us to understand.

Fat Boy Kyle: Umm, would it be okay if my character uses his sword as a backup in case he ever runs out of mana/looses his staff?

Mages can have swords/blades as secondary weapons but unless, like Lucius, your character is an Arcane Warrior or it's a vital vital part of your story then your character shouldn't be very skilled with it and shouldn't often use it. Also as this is an RP you don't need to worry about running out of mana as such, but more think about your characters own limitations and them getting worn out from exertion.

I just imagine it's easier to fight with a stick then a sword, probably why Donatello having spent the least time training in marital skills uses one. A sword takes years to learn to uses properly. But I'd think a swords allot better than using a knife. (not that fighting with stave is all that simple.)On that note I'm probably going to add throwing axes to my characters arsenal if that's ok.

Good point. And as for throwing axes you can add them but don't make your character some amazing axe throwing marksman obviously and consider how many axes she could reasonably carry.

    Mortarion said
Well, I have to go do some stuff for University now, sorry, I'll finish this latter. And if the character seems a bit confusing, don't worry I'll explain it when I finish the bio.@GrievousKhan: Absolutely, and you are right and I have a reason for my character having a -rudimentary- knowledge of swordplay which will be explained in the story.

Accepted. There's a couple of spelling mistakes and some sentences could be neater; however there's certainly nothing major and I'm guilty of the same offences!

    Laufey said
That does bring up the question of how are you going to decide whether or not someone lives after the joining? A coin toss, a simple yay or nay, or some other way of deciding?

    Hexaflexagon said
I believe he will go with the time honored tradition of going to New Zealand and finding two hobbits kidnapping them and naming one Live and the other Die. He shall then give them each a rusty spoon and telling them kill the other and you shall be freeded. Whoever lives decides if you survive the joining or not. Then again that is not the most practical option is it?

Well that's actually where I've been the last couple of days but unfortunately most seem to have already kidnapped by Peter Jackson. I did try to barter with him but he refused, claiming that I 'look too much like Golem' for him to trust me. Instead of this honoured tradition I'm afraid I'll have to have my character decide who is strong enough to undertake the joining based off of what he sees and then either sacrifice one or two consenting player's characters OR roll a dice. It's a bit harsh I know, but people always die in the joining and I won't force any players to have their characters go through joining anyway.

Well, since it seems my DA roleplay isn't developing much interest I'd like to give my attention to one that's in the same universe as mine. I will get a character sheet up shortly as the second watered down warrior, aka a rogue. Most likely as a Shadow.

Your CS is a bit short... but sweet. I'd rather you not have red steel stuff yet and your grammar could use some tidying up; fix this before I accept you.

Uh, I read a very very brief summary of things on Wikipedia about this game. Am I OK anyway?

Honestly it would be a lot better if you had played this game. If you're willing to check the wiki to keep things cannon then it might not be too much of an issue (as after all this is set before the games). We have technically reached the character limit but if you would like to make a rogue you can.
I'll post the OOC and the CS list in a short while. Unless you've already posted in this thread at one point, CS submission is now closed. Please try to sort out CS stuff in this thread rather than the OOC.
