That's assuming said tank is using a conventional main weapon and remains within the strict tactical parameters modern MBTs do. Even today, the role of armor is changing, with tanks becoming smaller, lighter and more durable as compared to their WWII and early Cold War-era counterparts. If I were to make a competitive high-tier tank, it would be the size of a tankette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankette), sport a turreted beam weapon, possess a plasma shield that can function as an alternative deterrent against melee users, and it would handle like a sports car (much like the M18 Hellcat and/or the Riptide All Terrain Vehicle). Add in some more defensive and offensive capabilities and you now have an armored vehicle worthy of the competition it's slated for. If mechs (which are inferior war machines when compared to tanks) can remain competitive in a world of magical swordsmen and quasi-magical cyborgs, a small treaded vehicle can as well. They're weakness against attack helicopters and ifantry huddled within buildings don't apply here, since the tank's capabilities would adhere to the tier system set by Skall and not arbitrary limitations set by the independent assumptions and beliefs held by other players.

Then some guy with a magical anti-armor bazooka walks up to it and kills it dead with a few shots, because it can't dodge for shit. If you find a way around that, I'd agree that tanks could be viable.

That character probably can't go as fast, nor wear as much armor.

What tier are we discussing here?

The principle remains the same, just with a whole lot more oomph. Fast (Even modern tanks can go 60 mph), armored, but vulnerable to multiple opponents or Z-axis attacks.

Here's the difference between a tank, and a character wielding a weapon that shoots tank shells; the character can punch, -dodge tank shells-, do backflips, and move freely in any direction he wants. A tank can not. 'Tis why they are a bad alternative. That lack of movement capability spells certain defeat against all but the weakest of characters.

Like, modern tanks? Of course not.

Then do elaborate.

Anyway, my point is made. I will leave the holy aura around ships intact and return to Earth via Nexus. Green, how do you feel about tanks?

I feel tanks would get mashed to a pulp by any character ever. Officially, they would fall within the same issue as the ships.

Personally, however, I don't see any apparent issues about the theoretical usage of a tank in a battle. 9 out of 10 times, someone is going to climb it, and it'll revert to a character on character fight anyway, that is, if they don't just blast it with something uber-prepped first. I don't know, can't really give you a straight answer on that one. Too many variables. Are we talking -standard- tanks?

Would trees be in the foreground?

I don't know what side-scrolling fighting games you've played, but the foreground is reserved for them people beating each other senseless.

@Tiers: I seriously hope you're just joking and not actually serious.

Dead serious. I mean, I might be off by some numbers, but that's the jist of it.

If Khan is planning on joining, that is.

Ok, thanks. I will start writing my post destroying several demon web backdrop items, namely a few spiders, a few insectoids, Khan's ship, and some webs. No characters will be engaged.

Backdrop does not mean easily destructible. It means that it's not the focus of the fucking fight. If this was a side-scroller fighting game, the spaceships would be hanging out in the background, doing stuff, being an environmental hazard. You do see what I mean, don't you?

Asta - I actually haven't seen Fury's CS yet, so I can't really make a comment there, but I can say that what people mean when they mention the sub tiers, is that Skallagrim's 'new-and-revolutionary' three-tier system, is basically just the old 10-tiered system without the 9 and 10. So we're basically going by something along the lines of Low; 0-2, Intermediate; 3-6, high; 7-8, and God; 9-10. Which is stupid, if you ask me, but hey. That's what that means, at least.
Eveni-.. Oh, so that's what we're doing now. I guess I would be annoyed, but I'm just happy the chat is moving along.

Anyhow, So Boerd; Skallagrim, the actual GM of this whole thing, specifically stated that ships are to be used as a backdrop.

HOWEVER; the -rare- exception of that thought, is if two people, both having a character with a vehicle of their own, agrees beforehand to do such a battle with each other, purely for the purpose of demonstrating that such beings exist in the universe as well. In ANY OTHER CASE, it is a hands down no-go. Ship vs man-on-the.ground goes against the wishes of the creator of the nexus. Those vehicles are there mainly for transportation purposes.

- Khan; Since you'll be less active when you're moving, does that mean you won't be participating in the swordfight thread?

Edit:

What are you on about ASTA? There hasn't been any trash talking or dick waving since Beta bit the bullet. Odd thing that.
