Your response was still doing exactly what you were being criticised for. Being so aloof from the "popularity game" of Spam is just another way of shitting on everyone and elevating yourself. My excessive vitriol in then leaping on the opportunity to criticise you, a less well-known member who, while being criticised for shitting on people for popularity, mistakenly did essentially the same thing in a different form, was somewhat of a play on/continuation of the "meta" comments from just a few posts before. Clumsily done, perhaps, but it's late at night and I was desperately trying to contain the blood flow from that popped vessel in my eye. Excessive exasperation, y'know.
