Yeah that's the thing. I can tell you from what I've learned of gendered speech: better vocab, more expressive, more agreeable (rather than obviously assertive), more emotion in general=conflated with female speech.

In that case, the sample you choose would have a massive effect, no? If I ran a debating speech through there it'd probably come out as superdupermasculine9000. I'll have to try different sample sources tomorrow, see what the differences are...

Usually, yeah.

I meant "really, you thought I was a woman?"

Oops. I should probably go edit my post in that mental illness thread.Although... I swear you've corrected me on this before, now that I think about it. Don't know how I could've forgotten again. I can't even remember the last time I had a female character in my set.Hooray for breaking the cycle?

You're not the first or last, I wouldn't worry about it. I imagine I'll have to keep correcting people for as long as I (apparently) write like a woman. Female sets don't help. This does, however, prove that the Pikcha thread doesn't get viewed by many people anymore.
It's not an all-pervasive thing, just an overall trend - and RPG is probably less adherent to that trend than many places as it's neither particularly male nor female dominated. But yeah, hooray xD

'ey girl, what up? Lemme get your number and we can hook up sometime.

Sounds like fun to me baby <3 Just don't let Bea know, wouldn't want her being jealous.
Okay, joking aside, where the fuck have you been Mickeyboy?

so...your one of THOSE people.

Not through design, I assure you. I just like Jennifer Lawrence and her character in Silver Linings, hence the set. I just find the coincidental results highly amusing.

Really?

idk if this is the original one, but here I found one for everyone to use. Grab a writing sample of yours from somewhere, and give it a go:

From a massive message I sent to Dervish (so, informal conversation, the same context as keeps convincing people I'm female):
1. female (73.3 %)
2. male (26.7 %)

Holy shit.

It totally still counts if you have a female set, don't you know men aren't allowed to have them. Men identifying with aspects of female characters? EwwwNever mind that, that's just me metaphorically and abstractedly human centipeding you.

To be fair, most people who have sets with identifiable male or female characters in them tend to stick to their own gender, simply because they know the assumption will be made - which, in the long run, makes those assumptions more likely to be right, and, weeelllll, it's a vicious cycle.

I can't tell if I should be offended or if you're being facetious/I'm missing the point. x)

You know that reminds me of this one site where you could input a sample of your writing (like a paragraph or two) and it would use text analysis algorithms to try to determine if you were a girl based on how you typed. Found that interesting, wonder if I could find it again.

If you do, send it to me? I've always been rather curious about this, as a few people have mistaken me for a woman even when I've had "neutral" or even stereotypically masculine sets.

EDIT: Just found one online. Seems that for "informal" speech, like in normal conversation, I come across very gender-neutral - either weakly male or weakly female. My "formal" writing, for which I submitted RP posts as it uses short stories as an example, comes up as slightly more strongly male, though. Interesting.

Halo! You should be ashamed of yourself!

I did absolutely nothing to intentionally spread this; it sprang up because I head JLaw as my set for so long. Teehee. :3

Also hey, I'm in your signature. Excellent choice, mon ami. ;D
Actually did the quiz - Chaotic Good Human Wizard. Literally no surprises there.

...that I get a little chuckle out of every time I see someone on here thinking I'm a woman?

Yeah, that is true.Extravert would be the correct spelling in terms of proper Latin, the 'o' is only there for the symmetry to introvert.

Huh. You learn something new every day. See, this is why they should teach linguistics in school.
No idea about core class (if it's an accurate representation of me, something based off of the INT or CHA stats, as I have literally no physical ability at all and anybody will tell you I'm thoroughly not WIS), but as for alignment definitely Chaotic Good. I ride my high white horse so hard my thighs chafe, and I wasn't structured and orderly enough to remember a saddle.
