A good GM sets up the stage for the actors, he doesn't hand them scripts. On the flip side, a good player knows to take into account their environment, and set up a character that makes sense for the stage upon which they stand. It's a symbiotic relationship when it works, parasitic when it's only half-functional, and destructive when neither side functions.

Couldn't agree with this more. Dervs' anecdote about a player killing the NPC, too. It requires a lot of trust between the GM and the players to allow for that relationship in forming the story together, and it requires both sides to have a good sense for the story, the characters, and the setting - which is why, perhaps, it's rare to see it done well. When it can be achieved, however, it makes for a much more enjoyable experience - a team effort, a collaborative one, in the spirit of roleplaying itself.
Though the rules are PG-13 regarding sexual content, I've seen a fair amount of gore go unpunished by the staff in roleplays (although they potentially just didn't see.) My advice is simply not to be tasteless about it. The only way you'd go past the line is by being tasteless - as in, anything extreme enough to cross that line would be lacking in taste. Use your common sense.
My personal view is along the same line. If you're using torture as a genuine device for exploration of a character's psyche under extreme duress, or for any other reason that could be considered legitimate in literary circles, go ahead. If you're using it as a shock tactic, or for the sake of being #OMGSOEDGY, please, don't.

IKR. I'm never sure whether to laugh or weep over it.

I thought we had the lock on bad history teachers.

To be fair, he wasn't a history teacher. Year 3 is like 3rd Grade or so - primary school. Here in the UK, you're in one class and are taught everything by one teacher until you go to high school at 11/12 years old.

Neither Icc nor Bliss have been on since they last posted here... :/ It would suck for this to die so quick, I loved the ideas.

Posted :) Not very good though, travelling at the moment.

Awesome! And it was a good post - for these sorts of collaborative action scenes it's probably best we keep them shorter and sweeter than before, sacrificing pure style for concision and practicality, no?
Where are you travelling to? :)
My Year 3 teacher told me that the Picts built Hadrian's Wall to ward off the Romans. Seriously.
You could actually do worse than babymetal, not even gonna lie. As much as I should hate them, I've heard so much worse that I sorta can't.

Smiral - what was the name of that band you posted somewhere a while back? Gojira or something?
All I can say is hats off to the USA, and in particular to Yedlin. What a game.

I'm trying to foster healthy growth in the Spam community by encouraging new members to become better parts of it. You should be praising me for my efforts. I'm being absolutely serious. You guys overreacted like goofballs and missed the sarcasm that was pretty obvious to me.

I'm watching you, Wazowski.
