It was a good referendum, and I'm personally proud at how this rekindled politics in my country, outcome regardless. The people chose to remain a part of the UK, and i'm one to respect that. However, I hope the results have at least landed a warning to Westminister, as there's now a great movement in the people of Scotland for independence, that subside if austerity doesn't. Scotland remains a part of the UK, let's try and make it the best Scotland possible.

Cut the Westminster hatred, man. There's no need for "warnings." They'll honour Scotland's wish for more powers, probably devolving more than just the bare minimum if only to appease the Yes voters, and continuing the threats isn't going to help reconcile the current fracturing within Scotland and within the wider UK, y'know? My biggest concern is just that everything's going to fall apart and the current polarisation is going to continue. This is an impressionable time; make your mark the positive messages you've expressed, rather than threats and warnings and anger.

But I completely agree in regards to pride in the success of democracy and of getting people involved in the political process. The thing I fear is that now this central cause/issue is past, the incredible newfound political participation will fade away. It's easy to get involved when things are polarised and you can just pick a side and duke it out; not so much when the political scene is muddier and more complicated and less dramatic. This kind of turnout and participation is basically unprecedented, it'd be a damn shame for that to die out. As I said on Facebook:
"Although I'm very glad there was a No vote, I want to say: Yes and No voters, don't fall into complacency. All of us have problems with the current status quo, whether we believed in independence or not. If you disagree with the current political UK scene, get involved. This was not your one and only chance to change something. Scotland is a great country; it can continue to be a great country as part of the UK, contributing to a larger whole. And we can hope that this has shaken things up enough that longstanding inequalities (both those unfair towards those north and those unfair towards folk south of the border) can be openly discussed and resolved.
I agree with Salmond for the first time ever: the ridiculously high turnout and the huge, nationwide involvement with this political issue is an absolute "triumph for democracy.""

And to be honest, I think it's a shame Salmond resigned. Only just found out about it when I was interviewed on the street. I fucking hate the guy and don't like the way Yes conducted itself in a lot of ways, but he's a talented politician and a strong leader for Scotland to get behind in what's still going to be an era of change. Sturgeon doesn't have anywhere near the same ability to rally people, and I think it'd be disastrous for her to take over.

It's not a controversial topic at all. It's just a silly topic. And there are loads of bullshit threads that spawn endless debate that get posted in Spam. You can't use that one as a reason, especially before any debating even begins.My problem is that it looks like it Spam xenophopia and pseudo-mob mentality pushed a thread into the redzone when it had no business being locked yet.Sure, it was a shitty thread, but it shouldn't have been locked. At most it should have been ignored, and at least didn't need to be filled with the standard "fuck off" x 5.Disclaimer: I'm not even against getting rid of threads that are going to end badly or that and just plain shitty. I'm against it being so arbitrary.

Such things are based on judgement, here. Of course it isn't perfectly rigorous; of course it's arbitrary. And, as I trust Sherly's judgement, I'm fine with that - the mods, although they also should not abuse the power they're given, should not be so caught up in red tape that they cannot take action when and if they deem it necessary.
I don't think it was nearly so xenophobic as you think. If such a thread comes from someone we know, often we can be sure that it was simply badly thought-out or whatever. Coming from someone completely random, who has no reason to post such controversy here, who has no reason to value our opinions, and therefore (unlike an established member of the community) certainly no reason to skip over OT where that stuff actually belongs, it reads much more like a petty troll attempt. It's the same as you forgiving your friend for shoving you, whereas you wouldn't forgive a stranger. You assume your friend is having a rough time of it and forgive them because you know they're not usually like that. You don't - cannot - assume that about the stranger. In the same way, I would overlook it coming from you, or from Tripz, or Idle, or Smiral, or whoever. But from folk I know less well - say, Giygas or Derpestein, or, again, any of the regular Spam folk I simply don't know as well - I imagine it would get a similar response. Being part of Spam isn't anything to do with it, within itself.
There is no fucking way that thread was legitimately posted in search of enlightening debate; everyone saw that, everyone was annoyed by it, and everyone - as individuals - posted to disagree with it, with the same autonomy as you have now expressed your disagreement. Just because you disagree with the majority does not make the majority - or, indeed, the mod who locked the thread - a mindless mob.

You're still finding your identity at this point.I won't bother defending or explaining anything. Most of us disagree with one another. I frequently find myself just clicking out of threads to avoid getting mired in a lame debate. It's just the flavor of rpg/spam, and if it doesn't suit you there's no harm in that. When I get sick of it I just don't look here for a bit.You sound like there's something else other than the quality/mentality of spam bothering you, however.

M8, bit of advice: don't post a thread entirely revolving around your feelings and attitudes towards the community, or towards anything, and then expect people to not discuss you and those feelings. It just shows that you're wanting to talk at people rather than talk to people, and maybe that's part of why you feel such a disconnect, along with what Tripz said above.

With that said, I'm going to act as if this entire thread was a clever bit of satire on everybody's part. It just so perfectly summates Spam as a whole in an almost caricaturesque way. Bravo, folks!

It was blatantly put there just for the sake of fake, bullshit controversy and endless internet derpbate to the delight of some moronic "treleleleler". Nat was banned for repeatedly doing the same thing; it's just a different type of troll. Better to shut it down quick. I don't see what your complaint is here.
