Well, three new WIP nations and a thing about plate armour.
Everyone seems to love plate armour, but have you considered the downsides?:
- Low manuverability
- troops get exhausted quicker
- weak to bludgeoning weapons
- Restricted swimming, bow use and evasion
- higher vulnerability to disarming, sword-breaking and blinding
- weighs down calvalry and transport, meaning it takes longer to move a legion from one part of the country to the other.
-Snags in forest enviroments, making you even more likely to be hit

Plate armour is for damage-soaking juggernauts who kamikaze into the battlefield and pray their armour is tough enough. And while it is doubtlessly the best protection against swords and spears, it is highly suspectable to warhammers and clubs, which cave in the plating and make it even more awkward to move in. Also, repair costs will be insane. Now let's think about a light armour like leather:
-Lightweight, allowing for faster movement
-Not awkward to move in
-Vulnerable to slashes from swords
-Doesn't slow down cavalry
-Only slightly hampers swimming speed and forest movement
-easy to transport
-fairly cheap to buy and maintain
-Doesn't provide a great deal of protection, so soldiers will rely on agility rather than armours

Obviously, leather is a light and cheap resource, but a soldier can only take one or two hits before he's incapacitated, and you can forget about taking a tower shield with you. It'll just get rid of your agility.

Chainmail and scale armours are a happy medium, but are suspectable to piercing hits (Lunges, spears, polearms). They can take more punishment than light armour, but not as much as plate. They are lighter than steel, but heavier than leathers.

Add a bit of variety into the troops. Light armour isn't worse, just different.
Ok, let's keep things passive.
Any, and I mean ANY army with an active, non-emergency civillian-to-soldier ratio of more than 25 : 1 will be asked to cut down. In a state-of-emergency - Half the country occupied, two or more neighbouring countries at war with each other (but not involving your country) or at war with two or more neighbouring military pacts (Not individual countries) - then up to 30% of the population may be drawn in to a emergency war force. Be aware that the emergency warforce will eat into your funds, and will consequently impoverish the surviving population

It's a tad confusing, so imagine this.

Country X has a population of 10,000,000. It borders countries A, B, C and D. It has 10 major cities with even population spread.
At a 25:1 Poulation:Soldier rate, they have a total of 400,000 Soldiers over a variety of groups. This does not include Militias, Private armies, Mercaneries etc. (Which, if you have reasonable justification and there are no probkems with everything adding up right, are immune to population limits)
If X is attacked by A, it must fight with those 400,000 men. If attacked by A and B seperately, it may declare SoE and pull out a 3,000,000 defensive force. If A and B united as a group, it may not. If C attacks as well, independently to the A-B alliance, it can declare SoE, regardless of D's relationship with it's neighbours.
If A goes to war with B, then SoE may be declared in X. If A goes to war with Y, a country overseas, X may not declare SoE.
If X loses 5 of its cities, then the population is halved. Out of the remaining 5,000,000, SoE will be declared and the Emergency Army will countain 1,500,000 troops.

Emergency armies CAN liberate occupied territory, but CANNOT leave their own country. Also, for every member of the EA, the workforce is reduced, which reduces economy and production.
Its not the type of armour, it's the numbers. 1 in 20 is fairly excessive of an army.
Yes, we are still accepting. Its open until every region is occupied.
We will start before then, obviously
Innovative, can I just ask you to cut down your military? I should have seen it earlier, I know, but about 1 in 20 people in your nation is a soldier. It doesn't seem like much, but it is huge.
All yours. No-one else has claimed them.
Found a handy guide to military building. I think everyone should take a gander, just so we end up with more realistic numbers

Lookee here
If I get to be Switzerland, you could be Russia for all I care. I just wish someone could put an OOC up soon.
Non-canon shouldn't be an issue if you can cover your quaters. For example, I have a completely new race which begs the question "Well, how come we never see or hear of these in the Star Wars franchise ever?"
So I made their home planet get destroyed by a natural disaster and had them leave for new territory. It is very likely they would avoid contested ground at all costs, as they could be attacked by either side. If the Clone Wars was going on at this time, few inhabitable areas would be neutral. Even after they ended, there would still be a lot of hostility and potential revolts. So, after the collapse of the Empire, they found a somewhat empty, peaceful sector to settle down in. Some people might say "Well, why didn't we here about the Jedi/Sith Ke'ter who wouldn't need to look for a new home?", but I covered that problem by saying there were no Jedi/Sith Ke'ter.
Therefore, as long as you can justify any non-canon, there really shouldn't be a problem. Take anything that's non-canon and say to yourself "What changes would this have on the canon universe?". If the answer is "Not many" then you should be fine.
These alt-storyline RPs always stir up debates and questions. "What if this? What would happen to that? Would this happen?"
It's brilliant. I feel like i'm learning so much.
