"A book... about knights?" James sat up.

It couldn't be... He was looking for that!
"Anya, show me what he was looking for, exactly. I think it might be important." James said, standing up.
You keep saying he's hard to approach, when I assure you that's not the case. Because I don't write characters that don't talk with people, regardless of how stoic they are. That'd just be silly.
I mentioned Guts because he's the same way. Stoic, and rather gritty, but he still talks to people, because Miura knows how to write. You're trying to pin what's typically an author's error on a character. I am assuring you there's no problem, because I am telling you I know how to type up talking. Just because someone isn't bubbly and outgoing doesn't mean they don't know how to talk.
Stoicism doesn't equate to being impossible to interact with. Besides, straight men are important for comedy. He still totally talks to people because talking is important for normal humans to, y'know, function in society. I never said he'd be difficult to talk with, let alone avoid chatting altogether.

And take Guts, for example. He's one of the most serial characters in manga, and he's got a large and growing group of friends to talk to and who support each other.
I'm afraid you'll have to be more specific. Even if Imani is rather stylized, he can still be applied to this and a decent variety of modern games, especially because I am a flexible writer; I can adapt.
Name: Imani
Race: Human
Age: 24
Appearance: Samurai yo
Personality: Imani combines far East syle with the spirit of wild west, possessing a cool head and strong will. Although he used to be much more feisty, this spirit was tempered by training, leaving him in a state of focus and discipline. Heading towards his goals, he'll leave only a trail of slash marks and casings.
His constant companion is a set of headphone, releasing a steady stream of lyrics on his journey.
Skills/Abilities: Imani is an accomplished martial artist, skilled in swords and other martial arts weapons. Additionally, he's combined this with his handgun marksmanship, able to dance around as he slings around a pair of handguns.
Equipment: Imani's primary weapon is a katana. Though it's not enchanted, it's well made and well balanced, designed to slice through flesh with ease. His accompanying weapon is a pair of Glock 18c, an Austrian made 9mm handgun. In this way, he specializes in melee combat while also being able to unleash a slurry of bullets when the need arises.
Brief Backstory: There once was a time when Imani was a common punk, roving the streets without purpose, and without style. It was only after meeting a blind swordsman he began to understand the true way: the way of the samurai, and the way of hunting monsters. Training refined him, and gave him purpose, discipline, and spirit. He now wanders the streets of Shinkawa, exterminating monsters that dare encroach on his city.
James froze up for a moment as a pair of tiny arms wrapped around him. His hand reached up, and patted Anya on the shoulder reassuringly before going back to the rag, dipping it in the bucket.

"I bet it was very good art." he said, eager to change the subject.
"So Elric lent you paper and ink to draw, then? That's good. I think you could use a hobby."
Not my house. And if it were my house, I really wouldn't need to hide it.
"....No. He pulled out a pen and started filing a tax report. For all three hundred pages. End of story, this is for adults, please stop asking about this book." James said intensely, scrubbing the floor as hard as he could.
"I'll make you special candy if you promise to forget you ever heard about it." he offered. He was going to make her special candy anyways, but a bribe was a bribe.
"A book?" James nabbed the novel off the ground. He was about to place it on the shelf, before curiosity got the better of him, and he flipped it open to a random page.

"And then the minotaur revealed his...." James muttered aloud, the color draining from his face. He had to destroy this book before Anya read it.
"WELL IT APPEARS THIS BOOK IS FULL OF BORING ADULT STUFF. LIKE ACCOUNTING." he said in a loud voice, shoving the novel into his pouches.
"Nothing a little girl would be interested in. Anya, don't read these." he said, dipping a rag into the steamy water, and beginning to scrub.
"You don't have to help if you don't want to." James answered, pocketing the note then clearing out a trunk.

"This is messy business, after all." he said, roughly placing the body in the container. It would do until he could figure out a proper disposal method. He was pretty sure there was a river nearby.
