I <3 Mercury, but I hate having the same types of characters in multiple stories. Ava isn't even as dark as I had planned on writing her. The original had her gassing an orphanage with children inside simply to make a point to a man that cheated her out of money. I figured that would be a little too dark for a semi-protagonistic character though.

Weapons: A small crossbow attached to each arm, hidden by her sleeves. The arrows are coated with poison. Her glass earrings contain poison as well, and smashing them releases a cloud of deadly fumes. The antidotes to all of her poisons is inside the fake diamonds of her rings.

Etra One:
Puppet Strings - Attaches invisible strands of wire to objects and people through touch. She can change the length and elasticity of the wire. The wire originates from her fingertips.

Etra Two:
Scorpion Puppet - A metal scorpion puppet that Ava controls. It can be made quite small, making it easy to carry around, but it becomes quite large for combat purposes. Ava usually has it stuck to her back like a creepy backpack. The scorpion has many deadly weapons, most of which also involve poison but are not magic in nature.

Etra Three:
Pyrrhic Victory - Destroying the scorpion puppet to the point that it is no longer able to function activates its fail-safe. Deadly poison gas is released, enough to fill a large hall full of people and leave no survivors.

Personality: Ava couldn't care less about you're existence. If you serve no purpose to her, then there is no reason for you to exist, and she would gladly see you dead. It's a good thing she's too lazy to go about killing everyone she wishes dead, because she honestly puts no value on any human life that isn't her own. Ava is empty on the inside, and that terrifies her. She needs something to fill her. She needs to feel something, anything. She thinks she might feel something, something small and buried deep for sure, but something nonetheless, as she watches the life leave another human being, but at the same time, that terrifies her as well. If she does nothing, she is empty, but she isn't sure she wants to fill herself with the blood of the innocent, no matter how insignificant they are in the grand scheme of things. Anger, fear, apathy, cruelty, and sadness: those are the things Ava is made of.

History: Daughter of a wealthy aristocrat, Ava could have had it all. If only she had been born whole, she would have had it all. But Ava is a broken soul, full of an irresistible hate and need to act on it. First it was a woman who made advanced on her betrothed, and then it was her betrothed when he made advances towards her. Her father came later. She'd actually had a reason for killing him though: she'd wanted his money. A foolish little girl holding that much wealth was quick to attract the vultures, and they tricked her out of every cent of her father's wealth. That was a mistake on their part. They'd seen a little girl as easy prey, but when they looked again she had become death. She got most of her money back by simply taking it from the dead. A few since have tried to cheat her, all meeting the same ends. No one ever tied any of the deaths back to her though. Her poison left no traces, and besides... she was just one little girl.

History: When Sai’s forces attacked the Land of Water, Agini’s parent’s tried to flee. They took a boat and tried to make it to the mainland where they thought they would be able to hide, but Sai’s army spotted them before they were halfway to the Land of Fire. Ai’s father used his Water Release: Demon Fish technique to create a massive wave that pushed the boat his family was on all the way to the mainland while he stayed and fought off the enemy ships. He only held out for an hour, even using his strongest techniques.

Agi’s mother did make it to the Land of Fire, but it wasn’t what she had been expecting. The people here had it even worse than Kirigakure. She would find no asylum here, but fulfilling her husband’s wishes, she took Agini to Konohagakure anyway. Once there, she joined with the ninja groups there to resist Sai’s armies. Agi was left alone for long periods when his mother left to fight on the frontlines. She wanted revenge for her husband’s death, but no matter how many she killed, it was never enough. She became reckless, foolish, and she died trying to take on a force she had no place going up against. And Agi was left alone.

Agini had always been alone. Whether it was an inattentive father who never came home until the world went to hell, or a mother that came home covered in blood after leaving him alone for days, Agi had been alone for a long time before his parents died.

Agini is following in his parents’ footsteps by becoming a ninja. He’s determined to become as strong as his father was, though he barely remembers the man at this point. Just about everything Agi knows about his father comes from the stories that his mother told him on the rare nights she was there both physically and emotionally. The part of the story that she never told was that she had been a missing-nin, and that was why they couldn’t have gone to Kirigakure for protection. She had hoped that she could have traded secrets for asylum in Konohagakure, but the situation had already gotten bad enough that they didn’t care if she was from a different land, so long as she could fight.

Agini worked his way up as a ninja through sheer hard work, never letting himself use his Hiden technique as a crutch. At first he tried to hide his talent, but eventually someone killed him and he was forced to use the Hydrification Technique to survive. Even after that, he worked tirelessly to become as strong as possible. The academy was nothing, just an inconvenience and a chore that got in the way of his real training. The only thing that stood in his was the chunin exam. He took the exam three times before they passed him. Something about excessive violence or brutality or maybe it was the mess that the proctors didn’t like. His sheer skill is what forced them to pass him, and that’s saying something considering he didn’t even use the Hydrification Technique in his last try. Agini’s only real goal in life is to become better, and right now that means he has his sights set on Jonin, or even ANBU. Heck, he’d take Kage if they’d just offer him the position.

Personality: Agini is calm and efficient. He tries not to be cold towards others, but that’s what most would call him. Anyone that’s spent a long period of time with him gets to know his unique emotional spectrum. It really only goes from a slight smile to a slight frown, with those being extreme outburst of emotion across an otherwise passive face. Agi is very loyal and efficient in carrying out orders from superiors, so long as those orders don’t conflict with his own values. And considering what he did to his last opponent in the chunin exams, his values are very rarely a factor. Agi is always respectful to his enemies, and makes sure they get to use their full strength before he finished them. He doesn’t want them to die with regrets that they could have done better, or still thinking they could have won if they had only been at full power. He is always looking for stronger opponents to prove himself against.

Combat Style: Blow it up from afar when structural damage isn’t an issue, or get close to trap and crush it when collateral damage is a no-no.

Descriptions: Agi uses extreme water pressure to crush anything he’s trapped using Water Prison Technique.
Drawbacks: Everything inside the Water Prison is visible from the outside, making the technique horrifying to witness. Agi has to look away whenever he uses it or else he'd throw up.

Jutsu Name: Water Drop Explosion Technique
Jutsu Type: Ninjutsu
Effective Range: Close to compress, any to release
Nature Type: Water
Descriptions: Agi compresses a large amount of water into an incredibly small sphere, and then releases the water starting from the center of the sphere. The sudden release of water pressure explodes outward with the force of a bomb going off. Agi sometimes uses the technique for utility, as it allows him to carry large amounts of water with him, but that’s incredibly dangerous.
Drawbacks: Because him removing his hold sets the technique off, if Agi is knocked unconscious when there are bombs he hasn’t detonated or disarmed, they will all explode. It also takes quite a bit of water to create a single bomb, so he needs access to a supply of water to make full use of the technique.

Weaponry: Just the basics, but all of the paper seals, tags, and scrolls he has are waterproof.

Miscellaneous: I plan on having him further develop his own style of jutsu involving the manipulation of water pressure.

Mercury took the ring from the sparkly man and put it on. "I'm so sorry, but... I just don't think you're my type." Turning suddenly serious, the mage stood up tall, sheathed sword held to the sky, and let out an echoing voice. "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!" He smirked at his fellow magical girl. "Time's Arena!" A brilliant red magic circle spread out in the sky above his arm, and Mercury let himself fall backwards off of the floating rock. A bubble of slowed time enveloped the area as he fell into the mass of seething bodies below. Easily visible in slowed time to those outside, the magician wrapped his arms around the head of one of the snakes, and another magical circle appeared momentarily before him and the snake were sent flying out of the side of the bubble.

Mercury had it out for this snake in particular. This snake had killed him, and no one killed him and lived! In reality, this snake wasn't even the same one he had identified moments earlier as his killer, but Mercury wasn't exactly one to sweat the details. Riding the powerful serpent like a mechanical bull, his sheathed sword through its mouth like a bridle, Mercury was hanging on with all of his meager strength. "Don't worry, I got this one! Whoa, bad hiss bad!" The mage was almost thrown off as the snake headbutted the ground, but held on. "Yup, all good," he mumbled as he readjusted his grip around the snake's thick head.

I like Braden's assessment of what Mercury was doing, but it's far more likely that he's just stupid.

Could I be a member of the Hozuki Clan? I figure national borders and keeping various techniques secret from the other lands would have gone out the window under Sai's regime, which would make it possible for him to be living in Konohagakure instead of Kirigakure.
