Yeah, sorry for all the waiting. Been sick for the past few days, and that kind of saps all my energy like nothing else. Doesn't help that the hostel I'm in right now is unclean and reaally doesn't aid in recovery (at one point I thought I was better, but then wow in this shitty hostel we go). I'll be switching countries the day after tomorrow though, and even though it's even hotter there, the hotel we're in is clean and air-conditioned. Should help me recover, and then I can post at a faster pace and all, yo.

\RL rant over. Post'll be up in a few hours (since I need to go hunt or food right now)
@Light: Yeah, I know, no worries. Just wanted Animus to know it looks good so far in that front and all.

@Animus: Heh, true that. Mission diary instantly brought to mind an ex-military dude a bit too bent on his old job, but a dedicated gamer sounds like it might work too. Or you can make it both; after retiring from the army, the guy spends his time playing COD and hunting achievements since he missed his youth and army days so much.

I have a hard time thinking of a medium for the Success Diary, since I really want to avoid using the standard phone or the standard book + lock combination. Meh. What would a rich man write his successes on? Maybe he could be writing an auto-biography. So a book. But no lock.

It seems like you already got a good balance on it, but I'd like to reinforce that a diary like that should not be able to tell you how to complete the prediction, only that it was done. So for "learned about X by hacking database Y" shouldn't tell you how to get to that data base or how to hack it.

Yeah, agreed with that, but I think the example actually got it down pretty well, since it only said "hacked into the local police database". Even if it did mention which database it was, it didn't mention the methods to do it, so it looks petty good to me.

It'd be hilarious though, if the diary tried to explain in detail how the hacking happened. That would take so long to read through.

But yeah, it sounds cool, if a bit confusing in case you change missions often. If you don't though, should work.
@Light: Yeah, I figured his/her idea was already voted down as well, but just wanted to check the multiple character thing for both ideas just in case, since the GM hasn't made their decision yet. Figured it'd be fair and such. But yeah, don't worry, like I said, I won't feed the troll anymore. The guy/gal even tried to send me spammy PMs, so at this point I'm just done trying to talk to sensibly to him/her.

Pretending it didn't happen sounds cool. Gonna do that.

As for diary ideas, I kind of also tie them to character ideas, since they're usually kinda big part of their personality/life/so on. But, since I meant to join this rp once before, I got two ideas from last time. One (partly comic relief) idea I had for a diary was something like a teenager diary. So... basically a teenage girl rambling about everything irrelevant in her diary, you all know the cliche. I had a few ways that could translate into the predictions themselves, but I haven't yet decided on anything solid. And another one was a more mundane one, a Success Diary for a multimillionare dude, predicting which one of his decisions would be good and what wouldn't.
Not sure where you saw personal offense in that one, to be honest, when I was just replying to your points. Rather, you're the one who saw it necessary to caps lock and call someone's opinion "ridiculous" because they weren't the same as yours. Which... yeah. Looks exactly like the other thread that got closed because of an argument you started. No, I wasn't part of the thread nor did I ever post there, but since it was something I was contemplating to join, yeah, saw it.

Don't want this to end the same way, so yeah, not going to feed the troll. I saw where it led people the last time. Shouldn't have graced your first post with a response, either, that was totally my bad. Sorry, BioHazard.

So, to be on topic, regardless of which plot idea (pvp or team) the rp goes with in the end, would people be playing multiple characters? In the former it would be good since there'd most likely be character death (and that was the original idea, yeah?) in the latter many people probably wouldn't want to sign up only for the antagonist side due to the inevitable death and all, so it'd make sense there, too.
Train ride's over, am settled into a new hostel and feeling somewhat better. Can get to working on that PM in a few.
I'm liking our cast so far, from what I've read (only had time to skim stuff though, damn six hour trains >>)
That's not exactly correct. Many of the characters in Mirai Nikki don't want to kill and are motivated by entirely different reasons. I think you may have missed the point of the show and got too caught up in the action. :P

The entire premise is that only one person can become God, and the players are told to kill each other for that purpose. Not everyone is willing to go that route, of course, but that doesn't change that it's the idea of the game. I never talked about any of their motivations. I think you're just trying too hard to find something to complain about, to be honest. I've seen you do this before.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Do you think that Light's way will be breaking the mold? A revolutionary RP experience?

Light's way would make it feel like Mirai Nikki and not a general "look baddies let's kill them" jrpg, yes. Not really sure why you decided to be all dramatic about it.

Plot wise: How many people do you think would really be 100% A-OK with killing someone? Only the epitome of a Mary-Sue would dive into a Battle Royale no questions asked. The characters wouldn't TEAM UP TO KILL BAD GUYS. They would be allies, perhaps having already known one another before the start of the game.

... Did... you actually read what I wrote, or are you just really desperate to miss the point on purpose?

Because what I said was: it makes no sense for people to team with a bunch of others right off the bat in a game where only one can survive - because that would inevitably lead to backstabbing and needing to kill your teammates in the end. I can see it happening between people who know each other and in a smaller scale, but all the PC characters just deciding that this is a good idea? Unlikely. They would need to be like a really close family or something.

What you said was: omg do you think people would be okay with killing that easily Mary Sue Battle Royale CAPS LOCK.

Do you see the... disconnection here?

The Antagonists would be motivated by different things. They wouldn't necessary be "bad" guys. I wouldn't imagine our characters would have no issues killing someone. The game would be psychologically challenging for them. Additionally, they would of course be afraid of each other. It's a possibility someone could back stab them.
... That... was my point. I think you should just breathe and reread what I wrote a few times.

Don't be ridiculous. Even if we were to do it Light's way there would be no real "lingering threat of your character dying". We all know no one is going to allow their character to die willy nilly which is exactly why it's much better to have our group be allies.

Because not doing things the way you would is ridiculous. I love that sentiment.

I've been in a lot of rps where PC character death was a thing. I've had it happen to me. It's fun. And you know, if the entire premise says that your character might die, I'd like to think the people joining would be prepared for that. If you don't feel like you could ever kill off your character for whatever reason then pity for you. You're missing out and should probably get more detached from your characters.

Now how about you stop trying to start crap (again) and let people have their view on stuff, yeah? I'm at least going to stop debating about this. Don't want to clog up the thread anymore with this.

I like Animus' suggestions, btw!
I think I'd be siding with Light, actually. Mirai Nikki's about trying to survive while offing others. If all the players are working as a team to defeat NPC/PC villains, how exactly does the rp differ from any general "let's form a group and go after the baddies on an epic quest rp!"? Not to mention that it would make no sense, plot-wise. The diary holders are supposed to kill each other, and only one can win. Why would a group of them team up to kill off the other half? Why would this other half be "bad guys" any more than they are? We would be the ones doing the killing, after all. And if out characters have no problem offing those other people, why wouldn't they backstab each other?

Not to mention, it would take away the constantly lingering threat of your character dying if you/they make a mistake. Mirai Nikki without the fear of death is... kinda bland?
Yeah, sorry, had a really high fever since last night >> I've slept like 15+ hours, and am still tired. And tomorrow, I gotta move cities and hostels again. Joy.

I'll get to it tomorrow (Saturday) though. I'll play catch up then if I'm feeling better.
