2025. The infamous concrete jungle known as New York City is under the iron-fisted rule of Richard Banx, a corrupt political tyrant with a relentless addiction to power. Banx has reigned supreme over the city for the last ten years, gradually establishing his stranglehold over its vast expanse and molding NYC into a full-blown police state. Thus, he recently called for a heavy military presence to be strategically and permanently placed throughout the streets. The reasoning behind this wasn't made clear to the public. Instead, soldiers armed with assault rifles have become a normal sight. Identification checks happen randomly and frequently. Unchecked abuse of authority leads to an all-time high of police brutality. Anyone seeking to challenge Banx's tyrannical regime are immediately labeled terrorists and treated as such.
Several anti-authoritarian groups form the opposition. Intense street battles rage between the two sides as violent protests erupt regularly. Self-proclaimed anarchists smash out store-front windows, overturn parked cars and set fires. Banx uses the situation as a basis to execute martial law. Checkpoints go up on every side-street in the city. Cars are randomly searched. All backpacks are temporarily confiscated and rummaged through. Anyone even moderately resembling an anarchist gets stopped and hassled. Complete tyranny.
Meanwhile, the Department Of Defense collaborates with Homeland Security to develop a biological weapon known as ToGo. Its purpose is to combat against those deemed as domestic terrorists by infecting their blood stream with a highly mutated version of the parasite known as Toxoplasma Gondii. Often referred to as "T-Gondii" for short, this parasite was specifically re-engineered to temporarily cause illness, retard the brain's ability to function normally, and decrease heart rate, thus making the target inept long enough to be safely detained. But, as with all things that the government has a hand in, something goes awry.
May 20, 2025.10:00AM. A massive and unexpected explosion rocks Manhattan Island, leaving a 5-mile radius of death and destruction in its wake.Two thirds of the city's 9.5 million residents are immediately eradicated from the blast. The majority of those who manage to survive eventually succumb to a mysterious toxic haze released by the bomb. They begin to turn into mindless, blood thirsty crazies hell-bent on one thing: eating flesh. Manhattan is officially declared a red zone and all access points to the island are immediately cut off in an attempt to quarantine the infected. Every bridge is rigged with explosives and demolished.
As days turn into weeks, the number of survivors dwindles. The uninfected become scarce. Uncontaminated food and water even more-so. A bottle of medicine means all the difference between life and death. Desperation unleashes brutal, animal-like instincts which give way to rape and murder. To make matters worse, fumes rising up from the haze have begun eating a massive hole in the atmosphere above New York City. Daytime temperatures are in the 90s. Night temperatures are nearly below freezing. The chances of survival seem bleak. Hell on Earth... or Utopia?
