Henry nodded, listening intently to the matriarch MacArthur's words; he needed to know everything about their weapons if they were going to fight them.

"They used barrels filled with something to blow open the gate and the wall... I suspect now that it had the same material in. It smelt like rotten eggs afterwards, I remember now. If I remember rightly sulphur can often produce a similar aroma." It was clear that Gwen felt left out of the conversation and before long she got up to leave, clearly tired from the recent events. Before she left she spoke to him briefly, brushing his cheek. Henry didn't move in response, his mind racing, and mumbled a good night to her.

Look at what you've got yourself into now, Henry. And she knows. Maybe it's just pity?

Before he let himself fall into a downward spiral of depression he resurrected the conversation with Elizabeth to keep his mind off his frailty.

"Is that wise though? From what I saw, anyone could use the weapon and it requires little in the way of training or expertise... it would certainly empower the user. What if the masses gained access to the weapon and attempted to overthrow we magic users? Judging by the way Elianst and Anstarn faired from their attacks I suspect that we might lost that sort of confrontation. I think for now it best we keep our discoveries secret and let only the Queen and trusted commanders know. That is, if there are any left when we return." His mind drifted to his father but he blocked out the thought; he had known for months what would happen and had steeled himself against the event well in advance.

"I feel it's time for me to return to bed. We'll all need a good night's sleep, tomorrow we need to keep up our lead and we can't do that if we're all exhausted. Good night, Lady MacArthur." He bowed slightly and then turned away, heading back to the carriage but instead taking a bedroll from the supplies and spreading it out on the ground near a campfire, staring into the flames until they mesmerized him into a deep sleep; an old trick he had learned many years ago.
Sorry for letting it get delayed - I've been panic writing my dissertation but now it's done and dusted and I only have one exam left on Wednesday. Them I'm freeeeeeeee!
I'm certainly interested.

Also might I suggest that if you're having scheduling issues you might want to appoint a co-GM to manage OOC matters etc.? (As a GM myself I prefer to control the plot and direction but have a co-GM manage most everything else).
Haha - yeah, I forgot that it doesn't do it automatically here!
Just to let you know (in the event this gets off the ground) I'm going to be away today/tomorrow and working Sunday but I'll be checking in regularly!
I should mention: Shotgun Chief Operational Officer!
Still here - still swamped with my diss unfortunately.
Also very interested. I had in a mind a similar thing but yours is much better thought out! (Also you had me at Firefly)
Henry was sitting at another campfire with a hot stew in his hands, prepared by one of the servants who had come with the retreating nobles, when Elizabeth MacArthur approached him with Gwen in tail. Noticing the bundle in the woman's hand he raised an eyebrow.

"Lady MacArthur, I see you have been investigating our foes' equipment. I managed to get one of them to fire earlier but I don't quite understand its workings; I'm sure you've already discovered a lot more than I." He nodded to Gwen but looked down, remembering the fit he had been wracked with earlier; he feared that she had seen his weakness and greatest embarrassment. Henry changed the subject by motioning towards the servants hurrying to and fro around the campfire with steaming bowls and plates of hot food.

"You must both be hungry, it's been some time since we've been able to sit down and enjoy a meal. We'll have warning if the enemy approaches so sit and eat, relax. We all need to unwind a little." Here he glanced pointedly at Gwen, making her aware that he had noticed the bags forming under her eyes and the heaviness of her gait. [b]"Who knows how long it'll be before we're on the run again?"[b]
Sorry for my absence - I'll have something up before too long. I've been a bit busy with my dissertation.
