Reiner had been up for a few hours already, busying himself in a small workshop in an offset room, consisting of tools and furnishings that would allow an individual the ability to clean, fix, and if possible, sharpen their gear. He had taught himself whilst being mentored to become an early riser, either for the chance that an unknown entity may be plotting something, or for time to prepare. Prepare he did, disregarding the peace and quiet of the early morning, Reiner would work on knocking kinks and dents out of the metal plating and mail he wore in and out of combat, the sound of metal being struck resonating out of the small workshop graciously granted to the domicile of the Guild. He kept at this, in the dimly lit room, by a single, dying furnace, requiring a fresh blast of oxygen, Reiner would oblige, lighting the room up from pure heat of the coals.
He put down and arranged his un-dented, yet battered armor neatly on an adjacent table, turning to a grindstone-wheel, placed fashionably in a corner, unsheathing his sword, he would take a seat on a stool beside such a wheel, pressing his boot to the pedal of the grindstone, kicking at it until the stone began to turn at a pace suitable for a piece of metal to grind against it with a chance to be sharpened. Reiner lightly placed one of the edges of his blade at an angle against the stone, and incessant noise from the workshop began again. He did not mind the constant noise, he did mind that his equipment was not yet up to snuff before the approaching technical day for the rest of the members to begin. "Seventy Seconds" he whispered to himself, timing the perfect moment to swap edges, to sharpen his shortsword efficiently.
That time came by rather quickly, and Reiner opened his grip on the sword lightly, tilting his wrist upwards, and flicking his hand to turn the sword's blade one-hundred and eighty degrees, before tilting his wrist back down to it's previous position, the grinding continued on the duller side of his sword. "Fantastic." He said, getting closer to his goal of finishing his preparations to be ready for anything that might happen for the rest of the day. He sat there, sharpening his sword, considering taking a second look at the Bounty Board, to see if anything pertaining to Goblins had shown up, and if not, form a team for the pre-existing bounties posted from the days before.
Appearance: His appearance is not as glamorous or elegant due to using equipment that would seem lacking for an adventurer. His armor looks worn and damaged, with numerous nicks and scratches all along the body and helmet.
Beneath his armor, his looks are moderately handsome and dignified, if somewhat pale with ash blonde hair. His body, if seen bare has many scratches, marks, and muscular tone due to years of rigorous training, work, and questing.
Equipment:
Shield: Small and round. Easy to carry.
Short Sword: Sword optimized for use in confined spaces. Routinely broken.
Light Armor: Allows for quick movement while providing at least minimal protection from light attacks.
Strengths:
Trained Combatant: Degenhardt is relatively skilled in most weapons that he can get his hands on, using them effectively enough to fight with confidence during a hunt.
Swordsman: Reiner is extremely skillful in wielding any bladed weaponry from short swords, daggers to knives. With his short sword, he can fill his own shoes with multiple enemies at once with masterful dexterity.
Strategist: Reiner is an excellent strategist, specializing in ambush and guerrilla warfare. He could come up with extraordinary plans to trap large numbers of monsters.
Enhanced Strength: Reiner has a high level of physical strength. He could overpower some strengthened monsters in a wrestling match, and wield blunt weapons such as clubs and stone axes with significant force.
Enhanced Endurance: He also possesses an incredible amount of endurance and pain tolerance, capable of fighting after having broken multiple bones.
Weaknesses:
Socially Inept: Reiner does not have the capacity to socialize properly.
Domineering: Degenhardt tries to ensure plans are done verbadum to his suggestions and instructions
Stoic: Reiner does not say what is on his mind, only what is required to complete a task.
Hatred: Degenhardt will go out of his way to find monsters to kill, filled with hatred.
Stubborn: Reiner is not keen on changing his mind in most situations where his opinion or decision counts.
Personality: Reiner is stoic for the most part, calm in most circumstances and simply unable to devote himself to anything outside of preparations to deal with Monsters, or Bandits after the ordeal he went through as a child. Because of this, he lacks the ability to understand certain social norms and doesn't notice the affections of those around him.
His desire to Hunt stems from two places: the helping aspect of preventing what happened to his village happening to others and to hone his skills that had been implanted into his mindset by his precarious upbringing. To this end, he has a single-minded devotion that has led to him being rigorous in hunting, leaving nothing to chance, and he pushes those under his care into being just as prepared to avoid suffering because of a mistake. He will not hesitate to put himself against odds that will all but ensure his death.
History:Reiner Degenhardt was once an ordinary boy in a small fishing village near Overresch. One day, his best friend left to work on a farm in Estramoz for a few days, and the two fought because he couldn't go with her. Later that night, his village was attacked by a large pack hungry and angered monsters, of goblin origins and everyone he knew was taken from him.
He hid in his house's basement, locked in there until nightfall. He snuck out of the house, seeing the remains of those who fought back, and tracks of the rest either being dragged or carried away. Degenhardt was attacked by monsters who hadn't left yet. He was saved from death by an unknown, armored traveller; Reiner spent 5 years under the wing of the traveller, being trained and raised by him, before parting ways.
After parting ways with his mentor, Reiner took up the charge of travelling, and in part, hunting. He honed his craft, his skills of trade, that he was so graciously taught, and began roaming, wandering, around local villages in search of ways to assist. He would assist any village or group with good intentions, that required the enlistment of his services. Soon, his travelling became more focused on the genocidal aspect of hunting monsters, him being relentless with hunting down and finding dens, or nests, of Goblins, those who destroyed the life he once had, and greater, to prevent such hardships from befalling another, or as best as he can. He gained a reputation of his merciless killings of monsters, enough to catch the eye of the nobles of Rothenburg, being that there were prospects of less monsters in general to deal with, he received an invitation to the Hunter's Guild, which he gladly accepted to the fact of furthering his personal Crusade against monsters.
Extra: There is a betting pool among the inner rim of society regarding what he looks like beneath his helmet.
