First off, I would like to mention that this RP has been named in honor of the first Superhero RP I was ever in. That was a wonderful RP that became one of the largest roleplays of its respective site by the efforts and creativity of all participating members. I genuinely hope that this RP will be able to live up to its namesake, and be a long lasting, enjoyable, and imaginative RP.

And now for the actual OOC business...

Welcome to Arcus, a vast place where, aside from regular citizens, many superheroes and villains have come to live and fight crime or establish bases of operation and carry out evil schemes. Arcus is large enough to measure up to the size of a small country, and is divided into six districts. There's always something going on here, but activity isn't reserved to just the surface world. With such an expanse overworld, there's always an even larger underground where stranger things seem to be happening. Will you be a hero who fights for the good of all, or a villain who fights against good and only desires to further personal desires? Perhaps none of these, but the choice is up to you.

So as if you couldn't guess by the name, in this RP you are able to create your own hero or villain. Original characters are encouraged for this roleplay, but you'll still definitely be free to use concepts from already existing universes such as Marvel and DC to make your characters. By this I mean you can have your character be a member of a Lantern Corp, an individual using Iron Man like armor, etc.

If you're wondering where the plotline for this RP is, that's what I aim for this to be the fun part of. Players will be free to begin their own arcs/plots so long as they are inclusive to the other participants. Want to have your villain begin his scheme for world domination? Go for it. Want your hero to drag others in his/her fight against their arch nemesis? Again, go for it. So long as it is decent, I'm sure it'll be fun for everyone!
By and by however, I'll be introducing storylines for everyone else to follow, so be sure to follow along with any updates I may have!

Now for the rules of this RP:

Rules [+]

1. Respect the GM and co-GM (once I acquire one). This should go without saying, but don't vehemently and disrespectfuly argue with me or the latter. If there is something you feel needs to be said, present it in a respectable manner and I will see what I can do.

2. Refrain from arguing with and disrespecting other RPers. We're all friends here and just want to have a good time. If there's some conflict arising, settle it peacefully. Don't start a shit storm.

3. No godmodding. In case you don't know what this is, it's basically along the lines of taking control of other characters without consent and one shotting everything you see. It's annoying and unprofessional as buck, and it'll nust get you laughed at or flamed.

4. No overpowered characters. Again, overpowered characters with no limitations or weaknesses are annoying. I don't mind a significantly powerful character, but if they have no weaknesses and can pretty much do anything, we have a problem. In short, no Superman like characters.

5. No Mary Sues. If I see Mary Sue, I swear to God I will spew napalmic blood on its face and make Atrocitus look like a wimp.

6. No graphic sexual content. I don't mind romance and kissing and stuff, neither do I mind any references or stuff like that. However, if you're going to do it, fade to black or take it to PM (and then message me with the details xD).

7. Write with proper grammar. This includes spelling, punctuation, sentence syntax, etc. I know this is the free section and I understand if maybe you miss a few things because you're posting from your phone or something, but please try to make your posts understandable. I dun wunt sumthing liek dis on mai RP, k? Neither do I want run on sentences with little to no punctuation marks because it makes things difficult to separate and make sense of and analyze and respond to and then explain. You get the deal.

8. I have a final say in whether or not a CS is accepted or not.

Name: Scorn (original name Lars Zornlich)

Gender: Male

Appearance: Most of Scorn's body is completely covered by the red and black uniforms of the Red Lanterns, save for his head. It would appear that his skin tone is light to medium brown in color, and his black hair is medium length and curly to the point where it would seem that there are hundreds of tiny snakes frozen in place. His eyes burn completely crimson, and while his visage would suggest he was quite comely as a normal human, it has now been altered by both the ring and his own desire to have a rage filled expression and razor sharp teeth. Scorn is tall and well built, and his muscle mass seems to have slightly increased after his Corp initiation. His hands now end in sharp, seemingly metallic claws, as do his feet, and both his shoulders and his knees have a sharp, protruding, curved bone.

Power(s): Red Power Ring]Red Power Ring

Personality: As if his appearance, name, and Power Ring didn't give it away already, Scorn is a rage and hate filled individual. He is very proud of his power and will not hesitate to crush anyone who opposes him. As a Red Lantern, Scorn has a very brutal and chaotic sense of justice, believing that the best justice is brought about by vengeance and utter destruction of those who are guilty according to Corp standards. Although he either works alone or with a few other Red Lanterns, Scorn will work along with others if he sees no other solution to a situation, and if he feels that the cause is good.

Backstory: Scorn's past is one of intense anger and hate, both for others and himself, mainly because the events that transpired to his personal loss were things that probably could have been easily avoided had he taken proper precautions.
Lars was one day sent by his parents to pick up a couple of groceries and work supplies from a store. Since the house was relatively close by to the store, he neglected to lock the door to the house and left to carry out his errand. Unbeknownst to him though, there was a small group of criminals around who had been prowling around his house for an opportunity to ransack it (it was a rather solitary yet fancy house).
Lars had expected to be back in at most fifteen minutes, but that day there had been an accident on the road and traffic had built up quite a bit. The trip to and back from the store ended up taking him close to an hour, and when he returned home... the sight was not pretty. The front door had been left wide open, and the house was a mess on the inside. Things were broken and scattered everywhere, and anything of value had been taken. But the center of this crime was what remained of his family, battered, bloodied, and dead. His dad and brother had seemed to put up a fight, but they were eventually overcome by the criminals and their weaponry. His mother... well, it was pretty obvious what happened to her before her death....
Rage and grief filled his heart. All of this then coincided with the appearance of another Red Ring on earth, seeking a new being to recruit. Lars was just in the middle of crying out in rage when he heard the recruiting words of the Red Ring: "Lars Zornlich, you have great rage in your heart."
Afterwards... things got messy for a lot of people and cities on earth, until eventually Lars traveled to the planet of Ysmault, sanctuary of the Red Lanterns. From then on he has scoured the galaxy along with his fellow Lanterns in search of injustices to punish, destroying countless lives and cities in the process. Recently he has returned to Earth and has gone into the Arcus District.

Name: Markus Flane

Alias: The Observer

Powers/Abilities: Markus' powers are all related to his eyesight. He has the vision of a hawk and can notice great detail. He can also use a 'Mindsight' so to speak, projecting his field of vision from his body to anywhere within 20 meters. However when his field of vision is removed from his normal vision, he cannot see his immediate surroundings and is vulnerable. As for his natural abilities, he is quite intelligent and skilled at persuasion, having a silver tongue that needed no supernatural assistance.

Personality: Whilst living normally with his secret identity, Markus doesn't seem very spectacular, but acts generously and seems selfless. When donning the mask of the observer though is a different story. Markus suddenly becomes indifferent to most things in life, only seeming to observe. He never initiates combat, but simply collects information for an unknown purpose.

Backstory: Markus was born in death. His mother died giving birth, and unnaturally for a newborn, Markus was not crying in his birth. Just looking at his mother's dead body, blinking, his twin sister crying next to him. Markus' father was barely 18, Markus' birth being an accident of which the details will not be shared. Markus learned how to be independent quickly, and did his best to help himself and his twin sister Martha learn as much as they can. When Markus was in his first year of college on scholarship one day he came home to no Martha. It was later found she was kidnapped. In great pain and desperation he tried to visualise where she was, and his mind blurred with his vision, coming to see a cold, bloody dead face in a gutter. Shocked and traumatised, he ran towards the direction his vision blurred to until he collapsed. He was taken by a few people on their way to a place called the Arcus District, where a whole manner of interesting people were said to reside.

Alignment Status: Neutral, has a lot of rage, could be swayed to either side, either an anti-hero to the types of criminals who kidnapped and killed his sister or letting all his rage out and becoming evil, not caring who receives his rage

Powers/Abilities:
Eli has the ability to transform into any kind of animal that she has seen before. The process is extremely painful and long, putting her body in great stress. Once in the animal state, she cannot speak, but she can understand what other people and animals are saying. She can also perform actions that particular animal can do, but she must first adapt to her new body. Upon the first transformations, Eli will have the same capabilities as a baby. With more practice however, she can control even the smallest twitch of an ear. Shifting back into a human is the same as turning into an animal - gruesome. Without her power, she is like a normal university student - going to class, working a part-time job, hanging out with friends. Transformation, however, sometimes happens at random and she can shift during these regular activities.
Personality:
Eli tries not to let her power define who she is and tends to ignore it (though it's pretty hard to ignore when it happens). She is quiet and laid-back. For the most part, she appears to be happy and satisfied with her life. She is also a great listener but a terrible speaker. She thinks too much and when she figures out what she can say, the opportunity has gone and slipped away. Eli masks the pain that her power brings, as well as any sort of negative emotion that she feels. She dislikes being pitied and loves being around people.
Backstory:
For as long as she could remember, Eli lived with her father. He was always working to support her, not allowing the two to have some father-daughter time. It was rare for her father to have a break, but when he did, the two would go out and have fun, sharing their stories from the past days they didn't see each other. One day, Eli was playing in the nearby park. She was chasing after squirrels and chipmunks, climbing up trees and scaling rocks. The other children were in the playground, playing with the park equipment. Their parents were watching them from the benches. Away from their supervision, Eli continued to rough around with the animals instead of the kids. As she was climbing one particular tree, she knocked over a bird's nest. She didn't realize what had happened until minutes later, when she plopped back onto the ground. Just a few feet from the trunk lay broken twigs that led to the nest. There was one egg inside. The others were scattered around the grass, cracked and broken. Eli began sobbing as she picked up the nest with the single egg and returned it to its place on the branch. She sat beside it, tears rolling down her face. Before she knew it, an owl, most likely the mother bird, appeared. Eli noticed her and sputtered out apology after apology. The owl glanced at the egg and then at Eli. She ruffled her feathers and hopped closer to Eli. She patted Eli's knee with her wing, as if comforting her. Lightly pecking her knee once, the owl shook her wings out, taking Eli by surprise. She lost her balance and fell off the tree, screaming on the way down. She blacked out midway. From what she could recall, she could see glimpses of the parents and a few of the kids, larger than normal. They weren't looking straight at her, but they were close by. She lost consciousness again, only to wake up at the base of the tree. The sky was dark and the park was silent. When Eli looked up, the nest was no longer there. She trudged back home, her whole body aching. When she arrived, her father opened the door. His eyes were red and his hair was disheveled. He was quiet for a minute, before giving her a tight hug. It was explained later to Eli that she had gone missing two days prior, at the park.
Unknown to her at the time, she was an owlet, hidden under a leaf. The mother owl was feeding her from time to time until she transformed back into a little girl. The owl watched as Eli unconsciously chirped in pain, and as a human, groaning in pain. She flew away moments before Eli opened her eyes. It was the beginning of the series of events of Eli's shape shifting. The second time she transformed was at midnight a week later. She was screaming and crying, but no one came to help. Her father was working a night shift. When she no longer felt pain, she wondered what had happened and tried to sit up. It was difficult, but she dismissed it as the mysterious pain. She saw that everything in her room was bigger and thought she was dreaming. But, she realized that it was midnight and she was able to see things clearly. Looking down, Eli saw a furry stomach and paws. She had transformed into a kitten. She sat there in confusion until her body began heating up. She could hear distressed mewls coming from her mouth, which slowly faded into shouts of agony. After that, she kept transforming at random, though she did her best to run away from the public eye when she began feeling pain. A few weeks later, Eli figured out what was happening - though without explanation - and learned how to suppress the random shifting and control it.
As a side note, Eli hates her power and wishes it would disappear.

Personality:

Backstory: James was a choir boy, a great singer really you would think an angel was actually singing in the crowd children. And James loved it he wanted to be like his father and join the priest hood. James was as devoted as a minister at such a young age. But one day him and his family were called into court, James was too young to understand what was going on but got the gist of it, people were accusing his father of sexually touching a boy. His family was torn apart and his mother and father got into many fights, on top of that he was teased at school because of it, he was also beat up from time to time. Instead of turning to anger or drugs he turned to god, the next couple of years for James were strange. He would pray for hours at a time. He prayed so much that his knees began to grow blisters.

It was not until many years later that James learned the truth. His father's case was dropped on account of their being no evidence. When James was eight-teen he was cleaning out the basement when he came to an old derelict china cabinet. He decided to move all the antiquities from the cabinet and give it a good dusting. But as he was dusting it he touched the glass and it receded like a push open area for a medicine cabinet in a bathroom. It opened for James' horror to see pictures of child pornography. Needless to say James was mad, he remembered all the beatings he took for his father, all the pain and ridicule his teachers would give him bad grades on purpose because of his father. He pushed over the cabinet and started to destroy his fathers things when he heard a voice, at first he thought it was the voice of god but it was too blood thirsty to be him "James Aatrox of earth" it spoke "you belong to the red lantern Core". The ring shot of his finger and he transformed. His father raced down the stairs to see what was wrong. After James was done the house was just charred black bits. And his father was welded to a wall.

Greg Mantle (AKA: Iron Clad) [+]

Powers/Abilities: Despite possessing little formal training, Greg is a natural genius when it comes to engineering. He did not use these considerable skills until recently, when he built his suit of powered armor. Though crude, it is very durable, able to protect him from attacks and harsh environmental conditions. It also enhances his strength, enabling him to lift objects weighing several tons. The suit is armed with an electrified grappling hook and a high powered welding torch. Though it allows him to run almost as fast a car in straight lines, it is much less agile than even an average person. The haphazard nature of the work makes the armor prone to malfunctions, especially when hit with a powerful electrical shock. The suit is perpetually a work in progress, and by now Greg has gotten quite good at repairing damage using basic materials. If he had good supplies and a few days time, he might even be able to add a new feature to it. When outside of his suit, Greg does not posses any notable combat skills other than some basic "brawling" techniques from his youth.

Personality: Gruff but honest, Greg is not gifted with any innate understanding of politeness. He doesn't really care much about fitting in, and is always suspicious of authority. Despite this, he still has a strong sense of right and wrong, and will protect the weak at all costs.

Backstory: Greg Mantle came from a lower class family in an industrial town. He loved to tinker, but never paid much attention to school work. He didn't finish high school after getting expelled for starting too many fights, even though he was just standing up for others. He found a job at the steel mill, and moved out as soon as he had enough money. The work wasn't intellectually stimulating, but the pay was enough for his needs. Eventually, he found a wife and settled down. For almost two decades, he worked at the steel mill and raised his children with his wife.

In the last year, Greg's life took a marked downward turn. The town's economy had been suffering in recent years, and crime grew worse. The steel mill announced it would be closing and laying off all workers, further dampening the mood. As his job prospects looked grimmer, Greg became an alcoholic to cope with the stress of daily life. His marriage began to fall apart after he discovered his wife had been cheating on him. After a nasty divorce and several rounds of layoffs, he found himself unwed, jobless, and homeless. Greg lived in the towns junkyard, and began to tinker to pass the time, gradually building his suit of powered armor. As he was finishing it, he realized what he could use it for. His town needed someone to help, after corporations and governments had failed so bad. Having lost everything he had, there was nothing holding him back from a hero. Greg donned his suit of armor and became Ironclad, leaving his old life behind.

Alignment Status: Good, but doesn't like to work the police

Arcus [+]

1st-2nd: These are the wealthiest and most technologically advanced sectors of Arcus. They are dotted by large cities and are the sectors where almost all of the technology of Arcus is developed. Famous research and developments centers are located here, but there are also several junkyards around the corners of these sectors where prototype or failed inventions and experiments have been dumped. There are also rumors of special underground facilities that develop dangerous weapons and even carry out biological experiments to create new metahumans or creatures. The politicians that live in Sectors 1-2 have denied these rumors though, although there is quite a bit of evidence suggesting otherwise.

3rd-4th: The "middle class" districts (per Arcus standards), these are the districts that more closely resemble "normal" cities such as New York, but are smaller than the cities of the 1st and 2nd districts. Aside from these though, the 3rd and 4th districts have several suburban areas.

5th: A large part of Arcus that is still middle class, but less wealthy than the 3rd and 4th districts. This sector become more and more agrarian the deeper one gets into it, as it does more and more impoverished.

6th: A small part of Arcus that has been the center of much speculation. Not many people live deeper within this sector, and it is reported to be the site where many strange things have occurred.
