I'm heartened to see that there has been more interest in the idea.

I will get started on the draft at once.

Oh my... I'm interested, but I've never done one of these "nation" RPs before. It might be too much for my puny brain to handle.

It wont be. Nation RPs themselves are simple affairs, often made complex by the more... elaborate players involved. This will not be the case.

I'd also like to throw out my interest. This sounds fresh and unique.

Thanks for saying so, hopefully it'll work well.

Scheming for power, buying off senators and legion commanders, fortifying my villa, expanding my enterprises (wine, olive oils, textiles, foreign trade), planning and attending public games, engaging in general Roman debauchery- I understand if it's not for this game though.

I understand where you are coming from, however I wanted to keep the RP simple by focusing it more towards military conquest, with political intrigue coming later as the various generals at play garnered more and more power.

I fear that trying to focus the RP more on the chaotic nature of the Senate would bore people to tears, or force the RP into being more of a soap box drama than a nation building adventure.

Ideally, the players who find this interesting should want to command armies, for the greater good of Rome. Once their general has amassed himself enough legions and plebian favour, then perhaps they could grow weary of the Senate - or the Senate weary of them - and launch a civil war. In this case, it would be down to the players to decide the fate of the republic. Would they side with the rebel general, and help him forge an Empire? Or would they align themselves with the Senate, and march against him?
I'm thinking of starting the RP shortly before the Second Punic War. Rome was fighting on several fronts at the time, I think, and so this would allow for the various players to go off in their own directions, or unite to conquer the larger threats.

Interested, but I would rather play as a senator to be honest..plotting and scheming my way to the top.

Interesting in itself. How would you hope to implement your role within the RP? I'm just thinking that if everyone else is off conquering land for Rome, or defending her from foreign aggressors, how would you like to see your character affect things?
Howdy,

Anyone interested in a cooperative based nation RP set in the middle era of the Roman Republic?

Details are sketchy, but I am thinking that things will go as follows:

Each player takes command of a legion. This legion will be their "nation", as such, and they will be able to name it and detail their preferred troop types etc.

The general of their legion will be considered as their character, with lesser/secondary characters (if wanted) to represent the lower ranks of the legion.

The Senate (controlled by me, to begin with), will dish out orders to the players. Orders will mostly be military-based, requiring players to take their legions to an area and conquer it - or to drive off an invasion.

As the legions build prestige through achieving their given missions, their commanders will gain political recognition and favour with the "mob" (the people of Rome).

After a while, successful generals may be appointed position of Consul - a kind of short term king - and will then take on control of the Senate and dish out the orders themselves.

As the generals continue to impress and achieve, they'll be allocated more legions by the Senate.

I would stress that this RP will be light on the history, to allow for maximum fiction. You do not need to be a professor in Ancient Rome to take part, but I do ask that you familiarise yourself with the army of the time, at least on a basic level.

I will be able to provide a map, to show Rome's progress, and will also pitch the players against historical enemies (Carthage, Gaul, Pathia etc).

So what do you guys think?
