Legio Tertio Turcicum

I've added it to the list, because you have shown understanding of Roman conflicts - however, the Republic is not yet in Macedonia. The nearest to the Macedons is Apollonia (the area of red on the Greek coast), but as far as the RP is concerned, the Republic has not yet come into conflict with Macedon or Thrace.

Enalais mentioned his legion being defeated by Greek rebels*, and I allowed this to be the case as the Romans were kind of active in Greece at the time, so it was credible to accommodate his background. However, this is as far east as I'm permitting anyone's origins to extend to.

Please edit your origins. If you need conflicts for your guy to have taken part in, perhaps look to the First Punic War (about twenty years prior to this RP starting) between Carthage and Rome around the Mediterranean islands. If not, then Illyria (the coast directly east of Italy, coloured brown) was scene to a conflict about ten years previous.

*Actually, they won the battle, but to keep things orderly I had it that the expedition was a failure regardless.

I'll volunteer to help out.

I appreciate that greatly. I understand that this forum is quite limited at the moment, and so I cannot cede you control of the thread itself - which is annoying. Therefore, adding new legions to the list and accepting players will be out of your hands, and any new comers will have to wait until I get back.

However, what you can do is keep the other players, and yourself, busy with things to do. If most of the players have finished their missions, then you have the full authority to direct them further. I know I have written nice little letters from the Consul to the various legates, but I can't expect you to have the time for that, as well as for your own legion's responsibilities.

So with that said, you can be more formal about matters and straight to the point. Put up an "Orders from the Senate" post, given by Consul Scipio this time, and you may simply say "Legio blah blah to do X". So long as the commands are understandable, then this will be fine.

Of course, the players may not be ready to move onto their next mission, or may wish to wait for me to come back. This is fine, if that's the case. But I would feel better knowing that someone, i.e you, is there to move things forwards if everyone is eager to press on.

You seem to understand the subject matter, which is an additional bonus.

With all this said, I am taking my laptop with me up to Scotland, so I might be available. It really depends on how much work I need to get done up there, as I'm being thrown into a very rushed situation.

Any more room for me to join?

Rome is actually in desperate need of more legions.

Post your legion sheet, and await acceptance.
On another note, you all may not have heard me the first time, but I'm off to Scotland tomorrow on business and may not be active again until Saturday evening. Depending on how things unfold.

With this in mind, does anyone care to step in temporarily? Any volunteers would need to basically keep things going until my return, which is a lot less hassle than it seems.

If not, then you will all have to wait until I come home before the next missions are issued or problems resolved. I guess 4 days isn't that long of a time, but it would be heart breaking if I returned to a dead RP.

Well the legions in Sicily are indeed in a pinch. Nice twist LancerDancer.

Thanks, I wasn't about to let the confusion over orders escape me!

@TheMusketMan

You're not getting a bollocking, the order was a tad vague, however it did ask you to prevent the Carthaginian army from reaching Syracuse, as opposed to defending the city, thereby allowing them to reach it.

And the Consul certainly isn't going to confess to the Senate that he gave vague orders.

Time to grab the shovel, and dig your way out of the impending scandal by not dying at Syracuse!
@PhenoixWhite

Mission added.

I'm in the middle of editing Lanius' history right now.

Let me know when you're ready for me to review.
MID-CAMPAIGN EVENT, 219BC

*** The Second Battle of Syracuse, 1st of Maius 219 BC ***

The Gods spit upon the man who cannot follow orders, and Legatus Horatius' failure to intercept the Carthaginian column before it reached the city of Syracuse has allowed Hasdrubal to gather his strength. Reinforced by turncoat Sicilians, and elements of Hannibal's Iberian army in Spain, the Carthaginian column has grown in size to 15,000 men.

Though the Senate is vocally displeased with Horatius' conduct, they are refraining from calling him back to Rome to explain himself - given the force of the Carthaginians that now surrounds Syracuse.

Rome cannot at this time afford to land additional legions on Sicily, and so Legio V Almeria and Legio Sexta Ferrata must rally themselves against the situation. Furthermore, Syracuse's grain stores are in little shape to withstand a lengthy siege, and Hasdrubal does not care to storm the city. Therefore, the Carthaginian army must be broken on the field of battle, lest the two Roman legions wish to simply starve to death.

Consul Cornelius has ordered an Alae - an auxiliary legion made up from conscripts of Rome's Italian client states - to the scene, and they have landed in time to assist in the battle. This Alae has been allotted to Legio Sexta Ferrata's command.

Battle Details

Legio V Almeria and Legio Sexta Ferrata will stand side by side against the onslaught, but must not falter. Defeat here will spell the end to Roman rule of Sicily.
I'll get to accepting Rome's two newest legions in a moment.

Orders inbound, especially for the players in Sicily.

I would like to note that the matters that had happened in Illyrian in Marcus's origins was a while ago (by my assumption when he was around his early 30s) But it is my fault for not properly getting that point across plus it is not unlikely that he would be re stationed in Illyria due to his experience in fighting their forces.

I will rewrite your mission, to make it sound as if Marcus has been stationed there since he took Apollonia.

Hopefully that IC post is what you're looking for. If I took my turn way too far, or if I need to change anything, please let me know.

It was a beautiful read, and exactly what I'm looking for.

Well done, that's seriously some good work right there.

If anyone is in doubt over how to address this RP, AmongHeroes has pretty much hit it on the head. Though that's not to say any of you cannot pursue your own styles. At the end of the day, so long as I can understand what is happening, then you'll all be fine.
