Adjutor Insula

A Problem of Logistics

"No logistics train?" Marcus squawked. "How does the Home Guard not have a logistics train?"

Field Marshal John Strongsun bowed his head for the fiftieth time that hour. "My men are designed to fight on home soil, where the Hero's Road would supply them via our networks, 'Lord."

Of course Marcus was more than aware of this, but when dealing with his senior officers, he had to make them think he was a little more backwards than he was. "Well, yes, the Hero's Road will have to come with us."

The Field Marshal shook his head. "Can't be done, 'Lord. The crops need harvesting, and the men we'd pull away from that would cause an uneasy winter."

Marcus laughed. "An uneasy winter, Field Marshal? Really? This is your concern?"

"I have many concerns about this, 'Lord, but that is chief among them," John said, fixing his "King's" incredulous gaze with his famed thousand-mile stare. "A victory that leads to widespread suffering of those I intend to defend, is no victory at all."

Time to charm the old bastard, Marcus thought. He sighed, and nodded. "You are right, Field Marshal. It would not be a victory, and I cannot expect you to stain your conscience with such things. This is a war afterall, and you are ill suited for its demands. You are a good man, full of honour, and have served me well for many years."

"I appreciate your understanding, 'Lord," John said, with yet another bow.

"Which is why," Marcus continued, "I am relieving you of your post."

Now it was John's time to squawk, but Marcus silenced him with a wave of his hand. "You have served the Insula loyally for many years. You are tired, and old, Field Marshal, you have long since earned a comfortable retirement. Leave me, and find yourself a happiness that will carry you into Faran's arms."

John was flabbergasted, and it took him a minute or so to find his words. "But my King," he allowed, "I can yet still serve."

"Nonsense," Marcus proclaimed, spreading his hands. "You've said yourself that this campaign will weigh heavily upon you, and I will not allow it. You are a good man, and by my power, you shall remain so."

"Please, 'Lord, drillin' the boys is all I know," the Field Marshal said, getting onto his knees.

Marcus stifled a laugh. Drilling the boys? Faran be spared this man's lack of linguistic awareness. "Very well, Field Marshal. If drilling boys is all you know, then you have a place in our new Kingdom. I take with me the Insula's standing army, leaving her defenceless - and if the war goes ill, Karkarth will roll over it without resistance. We need a new army, and we need one quickly."

John nodded his agreement. "Where should I find recruits, 'Lord?"

Marcus thought for a few moments. "Ensure the Adjutor Order is fully disbanded. Draw every able bodied man - and woman - and assemble them into a host. What's left, can tend the fields. Scribe, scholar, doctor and foreman. I don't care what their station is, if they can't defend our country, then they can at least feed those who can."

The Field Marshal sighed. "Your logic is sound, but many will not be happy with this rash changes to our centuries old ways. If I am met with dissent?"

"I like you, Field Marshal, you're not like the others," Marcus said with a smile, "no morals, besides the alter of bloody war, unsettles you. If there is dissent, then fill the jails - find the ring leaders, and have them separated from the populace. I'll deal with them all upon my return."

"Yes, my King," the Field Marshal conceded, and with a bow, he marched off with a squadron of Order Guard.

Peace Keepers

"We have trouble, Sire," said Infantry Captain Grimspire. The man was an ugly thing, like many of Marcus' secret merceneries. All scars and fat, but with hidden muscles willing to tear a man in two.

"Trouble, Scoundrel?" Marcus replied with a raised eye.

Grimspire moved his bulk to the side, and pointed a hand to a docking ship. "Gryphs. They wish to dissuade you from war."

Marcus laughed, and laughed hard. Dozens of soldiers going about their business stopped to spare him a brief glimpse.

"By Faran, what - wait, are they armed?" Marcus asked gleefully.

"Yes, Sire," Grimspire responded, with equal happiness.

"Excellent. Ensure everyone sees. I can't remember the last time armed foreigners spurred happiness into any good patriot's heart. I'll meet with them soon, but be sure their commander is brought here, to the army camp, so that his build, nor his air of authority, can break through the sheen of ten thousand plated warriors."

Hmm, that's a little disappointing, but ultimately for the best, in all likelihood. The Vertibirds do appear to be rather powerful in a relative sense, so I completely understand where you're coming from. Unfortunately, however, that leaves me unable to field half of my force, as a portion of my units traversing the land itself would eliminate the purpose of an air cavalry unit.I know it isn't really my place to make a counter-offer, but do you think that you could perhaps allow me to have five functional Vertibirds at the start, rather than four? If that were the case, I could at least deploy Troop A, which honestly wouldn't too much of an issue. If you're more worried about the firepower, I could say that only four of the five Vertibirds are combat-capable at the moment, and that one of the aircraft's weapon systems are down. It seems rude asking for an extra Vertibird after you plainly stated that the presence of a serious air unit in the Republic made you uncomfortable, but it'd be nice to have just one more. If you say no I can rearrange my organization a bit with relative ease, so don't feel pressured. As for the Headquarters Sheet, it will be in along with the General Sheet either today or tomorrow. I wasn't looking to be accepted yet, I was just checking for see if things checked out so far.

I'm a reasonable fellow, as are you it seems. Being a reasonable fellow goes a long way with me, so I'm going to restore your vertibirds. Having done a little research, I've found a way for you to keep your air mobility. There are two known variants, according to the wiki. Later, custom variants can be something you can work towards.

To quote the wiki:

"There are two known versions of the craft used by the Enclave:

A transport-oriented version with a glass canopy, six legs, a large cargo bay, and seven blades on each rotor to provide extra lift.

A dedicated gunship version with a more heavily armored hull, four-bladed rotors and four retractable landing struts as well as greater maneuverability. This is the variant in use by the Enclave Remnants and the Enclave operating in the Capital Wasteland."

How about, having 2 gun-ship versions, and 6 transporters? That way you have your mobility, with some added firepower. Two units, with a gunship and 3 transports for ferrying the troops. How does that sound?

Question; Did you have an experiment idea for Vault 59 or is it up to me?

What you find in there, is entirely up-to you. However, there should be plenty of supplies to be found, given that the area is ghoul infested and so it's unlikely any one else has yet gained entrance to it.
I'm possibly in. I like the idea, and I too am a scrub who can't afford the game.

Kinda tied down at the moment though, RP wise. Get the OOC up, and I'll consider things then.

To be clear: I can break my mission into two posts, right?EDIT: Another thing: Are we allowed to decide the outcome of actions, or do we just take an action and leave the outcome up to you?

That is correct. Missions can take as many posts as the players want, however a new game turn will begin once the majority of players have finished theirs. You will not be left behind however, and likely, your mission will either be continued or cancelled depending on the state of things. (May need you guys to go elsewhere, for example)

Yes, this is a story, and therefore players can decide everything. Unless what they do angers people.

The Chapter is awaiting command from the President.

Your mission is now up. You're shooting tribals, and trekking towards Mt. Rainier.

EDIT: I've attached it to the same post as Mint's mission.

SECOND EDIT: The Yakima Tribals are in no way a reference to the Yakima Nation, in case we have any Native Americans here. These guys are just wasteland nut jobs who eat each other. Just wanted to put that across, in case there was any upset.

Ah cool, wasn't sure if you was going to be around for the order.

Currently battling a leaking tap in my kitchen, and the Roman architects who originally built the place didn't think about putting a god damned valve in the pipework, so I'm busy tearing away wooden pannels from my bathroom to try and find the main isolator. Somehow I've managed to convince myself to sit down and type this.

Shouldn't be too long.

Do you keep your roleplaying a secret from those you know in real life? Your friends, family? Are there some who do know, others who don't?

If you do, why?

(just curious!)

I keep it secret because I lead three separate lives.

At work, I am a man's man, full of gruff, grizzle and bravado to portray my dominance as an alpha male to my colleagues. I also grow my beard to help this image. I talk about nothing other than the amount of beer I consume, the difficulties of trying to find a decent car insurer, the rising cost of living and current political events.

On a night out, I am the funny guy who takes nothing seriously and pokes fun at people for a whole range of reasons, sometimes ending in scruffs with some of the more sensitive victims. I believe I am seen as "cool" and "fun" to hang with, and appear as your average male.

At home I am Garador, level 7 Paladin with a hankering for some goblin blood.

Never shall the three meet in any one place, in case it destroys the space-time continuum.
Mechanised's orders are up.

Also, Boerd, enjoy the mid-turn event.

EDIT: I think for the new round of orders, I'll confine them all to one post to prevent me from drowning you all in text.
Game Turn: One
Operation: Swooping Crane

Conflict: Southern Expansion

Location: Washington State Border (South).

Combatants: Yakima Republic vs Township of New Dalles

Back Story: Not much lives in the wastes to the south of the Republic, and for a long time, they have served as a comfortable buffer zone from the NCR's military might. However, with rumours growing about an NCR presence in Old World Oregon, the President has decided to get proactive around the matters of building a suitable line of defence.

The Columbia River is a natural barrier between the YR and the NCR, and could serve as a tactical ace in the event of hostilities. There are three Old World bridges, spanning the river, and the President is most unhappy about the gateway they would allow into the YR's southern territories. With this in mind, he would see them secured.

The only political organisation in the area, is known as the Township of New Dalles. The people there are known as raider-sympathisers, and hold no alliegences to anyone. They will not yield the bridge, or their settlement, but this is of little concern. The President only wishes that the YR's end of the bridges are held by forces loyal to the Republic, but unfortunately, to do this would mean war with the locals.

And so, war it is!

Operations Map

Missions:

Refer to Operations Map for corresponding mission numbers.

Mission #1

Republican Armies Involved: 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion

Mission Objective: Proceed down the Old Route 97, and engage the Township's forces at the ruins of Goldendale. After they have been destroyed or routed, mount up, and proceed further south.

One force is to capture the Sherman Highway Bridge, directly to the south, whilst another is to head off-road to New Dalles' airport. We do not require you to cross the river, only to secure the airport and to set up a base of operations there. Once the Sherman Highway Bridge is secured, consolidate upon Columbia Gorge Airport, and hold it against any Township counter attacks.

Enemy Strength:

The Township of New Dalles is a small collection of farmers and traders, who have formed themselves a small community. Their armaments vary, but are mostly small-arms based. They are not known as heroic fighters, and will likely break in the face of overwhelming fire power, but do not underestimate them.

The garrison in the Goldendale ruins is small, perhaps fifty or so men, and none of them are professional soldiers. New Dalles is a slightly different story, as its population stands around 1,000. There's no telling what they'll throw at you once you swarm over the airport, but be wary, this would not be the first time the Republic was outsmarted by brahmin herders.
Game Turn: One
Operation: Hidden Oracle

Conflict: The Tribal Wars

Location: North West Yakima County.

Combatants: Yakima Republic vs Yakima Tribal Confederation

Back Story: When the fledgling Republic was torn asunder by the start of the Unification War, there were those who sought to make good its weakness.

The tribes of savage men occupying the mountainous areas around Mt. Rainer assembled into a war host, and stormed the unsuspecting Republic, getting as far as New Yakima City before they were finally stopped. That was six years ago, and old wounds can sometimes sour.

Though they have been stripped of the military might they may once have possessed, the savages are still a force to be trifled with. Operating out of several hidden areas located around Mt. Rainer, they launch incessant guerilla attacks on trade routes, farms and small settlements. Though the Martin Rangers are the ones who traditionally fend them off, their current deployment in the late stages of the Unification War have left the vulnurable areas of the Republic totally defenceless.

This is not why the President is sending in some of his best, however.

In recent days, New Yakima City's science community have alerted the President to a series of radio transmissions being made from Mt. Rainer itself. Details, as always, are sketchy, but the transmissions appear to be on a loop, and make constant references to the United States Military. It is thought, that perhaps the slopes of Mt. Rainer house a hidden Pre-War military base, or something of that stock.

The mountain must be brought into the Republic's borders, so that the source of these transmissions can be found. For that to happen, the Yakima tribesmen must be driven off or killed to the last man, woman and child. Their surrender is unlikely, as they hold an almost religious hatred towards the Republic.

Operations Map

Missions:

Refer to Operations Map for corresponding mission numbers.

Mission #1

Republican Armies Involved: West Valley Division

Mission Objective: Follow the Old World road, 410, through the winding valleys of the former Mt. Rainer National Park. Destroy any and all hostile resistance encountered , and annihilate any tribal camps spotted along the way. We're at war here, and these savages have bothered us for too long.

You are to halt your advance at the base of the mountain, and await reinforcements before proceeding to the source of the transmissions.

Enemy Strength:

The tribals of the Yakima highlands are vicious warriors, relying not on guns to bring their foe to the ground, but numbers. Machetes, spears, bows and brute strength power their war machine, and whilst this may not sound like much, they are backed by an endless stream of courage.

When the Yakima Tribal Confederation was broken at the Second Battle of New Yakima City, it was not because they were routed, it was because over 80% of them were slaughtered on the killing fields.

Laser guns and power armour are a smug smile in the face of such reckless warriors, do not trust in technology to put down our savage brothers, but tactical prowess.

They will likely rely on hit and run manoeuvres, striking you from the hill tops with thrown spears, and vanishing as quickly as they appeared. If you settle down for the night, beware an all out assault on your position.

What about mine? I'm missing a headquarters, but is everything else okay?

Ah yeah sorry, I've added it, just forgot to let you know. Currently pondering where to send you, the south-eastern front is a tad crowded, and Mt. Rainier I'm saving for the Outcasts and the Enclave.

The south looks like it could do with a bit of claiming. Orders incoming.
