Uhhh, hi there! Cucco said in some other thread he'd love it if I joined him here, and this seems interesting, so why not?
I'm not sure what kind of guy I want, but I know I wanna be a techier guy, since I'm really into sci-fi and such, heheh.
My current attempt:
Appearance: Very tall, (Six foot eight or so), and well-built. His muscles are unnaturally swelled, and his face is usually hidden by his bullet-proof, armored helmet. He always carries a large flamethrower, heavy weight mainly being carried by his suits' simplistic assistance motors. His suit is gunmetal gray, with two simple glass 'eye-holes', and a little antenna on it. Also has huge boots, to kick people really hard with. Blue eyes, no hair, (Naturally ginger, surprisingly.) slightly green-tinted skin.
Personality: Quite mechanically inclined, having built his 'Power Suit' and Flamethrower by himself. Has a bit of a fire fetish, and has a love of really bad puns. He trash-talks plenty in combat, yet is polite enough outside. Doesn't want to lose a job and all. He's not the type of merc to do ANY job, highly preferring to just do 'productive' things like killing gang members or terrorists, or villains, that sort of job. If it involves killing complete innocents he would REFUSE to do it, and would likely try to kill the sicko who attempted to get him to do it. While in transit somewhere, he commonly hums (or quietly sings) his favorite musics, if he's alone anyway.
'Powers': Heavily armored (Pretty much bulletproof, somewhat explosive resistant, highly heat resistant) heavy lifting suit, custom made, and has replacement parts in secret stashes around the city. Extremely durable flamethrower, two-handled, and hard to carry around even in the suit. Normals could never realistically hold it, it should honestly be on a tank or something. Has a multi-mode nozzle, one mode that turns the stream into a huge cone, another making it further-reaching yet less wide, and one that turns it into a highly concentrated hose, for when one thing REALLY needs to be burned. Oh, and his helmet has a decent radio system in it.
Abilities: Being strong, he'll probably beat the tar out of anyone who isn't comparably strong (or much more skilled) very easily. He could probably be able to crack a normal skull in one, solid punch, with his armor on. He's not trained at all though, which suits him since he doesn't get that close normally, even with his flamethrower. He's the sort of Merc to do a job slowly and steadily, trudging through the enemy and thoroughly turning them into beef jerky before moving on to the next guy.
History: He's about thirty two years old, and was born already mutated a bit, the magical energies (and scientific ones) he's been exposed to over the years likely turning him into the brute he is now. His father was a city mechanic, and sadly died in an accident on the job a short while ago. His mother also died early in his life, he doesn't even really remember her. It doesn't stop him at all though, he accepted it pretty quick. He's seen all sorts of shit, he's taken jobs against cultists, gangers, serial killers, other merc's, no-name mad scientists, and others.
And chocalate layer cake. (I KNEW I forgot something, sorry!)
My dude: Appearence: White, 17 year old, somewhat rough features, growing a beard. Blue eyes, blond hair. Somewhat overweight, but not to the point to cause obvious medical problems or be too noticeable. Usually wearing some sort of face-obscuring helmet however, generally a welding mask. He generally wears a blue, collared jacket with a white T-shirt underneath, and tan cargo pants. Also, fairly strong considering his gut. Name: James Nickname: Jimbo Age: 17 Gender: Dude. Personality: Rough and tumble, and is almost always wearing a welding mask, he distinctly remembers spending a fair majority of his time doing mechanical work with his father in his family's garage. A pervert, and having a mean streak, he's not exactly going to be popular, most likely. He won't however, actually HARM anyone, and can be expected to pull his own weight in a group. Has an intense love of hot sauce, and tries to carry a bottle of extremely spicy 'Ghost Pepper Sauce' with him wherever he goes, for 'self defense and nourishment purposes'. Suprisingly, he's a huge star trek geek. His favorite is the original series. Requested Powers: X-ray vision, Steven-Armstrong style toughness (Basically being able to super-harden portions of his skin before impact), 'Part stealing' style regeneration, ("oh no! I'm missing an arm! I should cut off someone elses' arm and attach it to the stump, that'd be metal!").
If this isn't good, feel free to say what's a no-go and I'll change it to something that should be better.
I just joined because one of my friends reccomended/invited me here, and it seems pretty cool, lurking around, so I thought 'why not' and decided to see if anyone was interested in what I've been thinking about doing.
If you're familiar with any of the following; say, the fallout series, gundam, armored core, or front mission, It's been inspired by bits and pieces of all of those series, along with others.
In detail, basically, it's 2443, and in the 2080's a second cold war started, and shortly thereafter resulted in a nuclear war. However, a good portion of the total population (Let's say around 800,000,000 people) survived by taking refuge in massive underground city-complexes commonly called 'Burrows'. Each Burrow is entirely self sufficient. for the first 200 or so after-war years, each burrow was isolated from each other on the continent, not to mention to burrows across world.
Governments, however, have dissolved over the first 200 years, being taken over by the 'Ruling Companies' which formed. One or two 'Ruling Companies' reside in and control each continent, and fight each other for territory, resources, and knowledge. Ceasefires last weeks at most, and alliances are a thing of the past...
Vast amounts of pre-war miliary facilities, research centers, and superweapons still exist, ready to be repaired and retrofitted... yet, nearly all of them are still trumped by what many agree to be the strongest, yet saddening weapons ever devised: NCM's. 'Neural Combat Mechanoids'. Using technology that was experimental even right before the war, they're extremely advanced fighting machines, able to be called 'gods of war', and not being too far from the truth. To get an idea of their capabilities, imagine a fifteen to twenty meter tall robot. Now give it armor thickness generally beating dedicated battle tanks, with better materials and shaping techniques, thermal turbojets so powerful they can keep up with fighter aircraft, and weapons so deadly and varied they can take on armies, and be reasonably expected to win.
The bad part? Pilots are literally wired into the machine, requiring extremely painful surgery to implant 'Neural Plugs', that dot the spine and butcher the nervous system, reducing life expectancy down to 30, at most. Not to mention the other needs, such as replacing the bones with metal, the eyes with a cybernetic 'visor' able to hook up into the NC's sensor arrays, and replacing the legs entirely with disturbing mechanical equivalents, combined with the other upgrades making them social pariahs. Yet, that's the only fair price to pay for such godly power, isn't it?
Another facet of NC's, they and their weapons can vary extremely widely. From the 'standard' biped fitted with internal, hidden missile launchers, two 'assault rifles', (more like automatic tank cannons), and gauntlet-style plasma blades, to tracked fortress tank-like NCM's with tactical nuclear weapons, and high-energy particle cannons, to permanently flying types, their legs replaced by massive thrusters, and armor stripped down to make them effectively 'jets with arms'.
The players would be part of 'Howling Sands', the only standing anti-corporate group left in the world.
Your mission: Eliminate the Uber-companies one by one.
Anyone interested?
We'll discuss in this thread on characters and stuff. Do post if you're interested and what 'role' you might wish to fulfill in the team. And do note, you're not completely alone, you all have an NPC support team and a small, cheap and cheerful secret hideout somewhere in africa. (planned, anyway)
But yeah, four positions on start, and I'd hope myself if you could be on every other day, preferably every actual day, enough so you can pull a few paragraph reply out of your ass at least.
Additional notes: Just because we're starting in africa (and operating out of there for a while) doesn't mean you have to be from there. Even though the world is fucked, basic intercontinental transportation is available.
Oh, and in the following spoiler is how I personally think your average NCM's might look like. The corporations have many, meaning no two NC's are necessarily just the same. If you want your starting NCM to look a specific way, describe it a bit, or just slap on a spoilered image. Preferably both, really.
Anyway, yeah, post if you're interested, what role(s) you might wish to play, and what sort of NCM you want. Anything reasonable goes!
Yay more edits: If you are gonna post, I'd prefer it if your NC's details were ordered like:
Body Type: (Available are: biped, tank tracked, quad legs, digitigrade legs ('Dog legs'), and hover) Appearance: Weight Class: (Superlight, Light, Medium, Heavy, Superheavy) Weapons: (Arm-mounted, back-mounted, hip mounted, Internals)
Well I just posted my dude(s). I'm pretty much going full 'glass cannon'/'minion master'. I got about 450 drones or so, got some generic impact/harassing drones, some sensor-screwy ones, and a few 'flying shield' types. That sounds pretty smart, right? The ships' main (and only 'real' guns) are a series of eight high-energy lasers, so it's basically a sniper ship in that regard. I think it's fast enough at 1.5G max, using the big orion drive. I mentioned it being 'specially made to reduce collateral damage' since I don't wanna accidentally nuke anyone else.
So y'know, I think in combat I'll just hide behind the most armored ship and take potshots at the biggest enemy ship. Of course, also send all the drones I have to swarm the shit out of the enemy. Or maybe just lay back at maximum range and nuke everything.
I think when we get upgrades and stuff I'm going to add actual antimatter nukes. That'd fit in pretty well with the setup, right? Probably add even more laser turrets and more drone hangars too. And upgrade the engines.
Well anyway yeah, I'm pretty much ready myself.
Edit; And WOW looking at everyone elses' ships mine's a complete piece of shit, and I look like a total scrub. Well, sorry, heheheh..
The HSV Trapper is of the Opportunity Class of civilian interstellar freighters, commandeered by the Hegemony many years ago to bolster themselves in a time of shortages. At 435 meters long, it's not the largest boat out there, but it's respectable. The vessel is propelled by a relatively ancient Orion-type nuclear pulse drive, using the shock waves of a series of nuclear bombs to move. Obviously, this means it's space-use only, with no likely possibility of it being retrofitted for atmospheric operations any time soon.
It's been retrofitted two times, each being 'relatively' minor. The first, immediately upon construction, what used to be cargo bays were all transformed into a large amount of drone-related infrastructure, such as holding bays, control computers, and repair/fabrication systems. The second retrofit, which happened relatively recently, modernized the then-suffering, nearly 100 year old ship. The vessels' advanced-for-its-time, yet aging fission reactor, has been replaced by a current standard fusion core, with no frills or additional abilities. The retrofit also included new computer systems, a satisfactory short-range laser point defense system, and updated drone infrastructure, that needed much less volume, boosting 250 drones to 400. This update also added the crafts' actual, ship-to-ship weapons and shielding systems. It now has eight, high-density low-diffusion laser weapons. All together, the main lasers are actually strong enough to very easily disable a cruiser. Its' shields are strong enough to block most standard weapons, yet dedicated anti-shielding weapons and heavier ones in general (such as spinal mounted ones) would definitely be enough to pierce it.
All in all, it's effectively the ultimate 'glass cannon' in its weight and age class. It'll have to rely on its' fleet-mates for protection, and assist its allies with its drones and mighty energy cannons.
Primary Weapons Eight HD/LB (High-Density, Low Bloom) Laser Turrets. Rated for a max range of 3,000,000 KM. Able to fairly easily damage Cruiser-sized vessels and down. Able to fire once every 45 seconds, at max power.
Secondary Weapons 32 Small PD lasers, meant to destroy enemy drones/missiles/fighters near the Trapper. Many firing at one target can also damage smaller ships.
Armoring & Shielding 1 Meter Civilian Grade hull/armoring, supplanted at key points by 3 meter military-grade armoring. (Namely, Bridge, engine, weapons) Able to sustain minor damage very well, and should be easy to replace/fix. 2 High-recharge rate destroyer grade energy shields. Relatively easy to pierce with heavy weapons, but it can re-activate/'heal' in seconds, meaning small weapons are effectively useless.
Countermeasures 8 Military grade chaff launchers. 20 charges each. Four near the back, firing in an X formation, Four near the front, firing in an II formation. 16 Military grade flare launchers. 40 flares each.
Engines/Propulsion 1 Orion-type nuclear pulse drive. Uses nuclear bomb shock-waves to propel self, specially made for minimum 'collateral damage', yet still not 'safe' to use in atmosphere, for obvious reasons. Rated for 1.5G acceleration. 8 Chemical Maneuvering thrusters. Mounted at key points, to turn the craft and for combat maneuvering Rated for 1.2G acceleration
Reactor/Energy 1 Medium Military Grade Fusion Reactor. Rated for 1200 Gigawatts. 2 High-capacity Batteries, one mounted in the front, the other in front of the Orion Drive. Precaution in case the Fusion Reactor is damaged. Should power the ship for 20 standard days.
Crew Compliment Aprox. 900 Crew members at any time, assisted by some minor automation added recently. Lead by Captain Reginald 'Reggie' Nelson, a more 'green' captain. Intelligent, and very easily able to think in three dimensions, yet is noted to be relatively 'bull-headed', to put it lightly.
Computer Systems 1 Reinforced high-speed central computer core, home to the ships' basic A.I., called 'Major Tom' by the ships' crew. Somewhat 'dumb' by A.I. standards, but is extremely loyal, and never gives up the personnel. Also, has a self-deprecating sense of 'humor'. 4 Laser-based Drone control systems, mounted externally. While armored, still the most vulnerable parts of the ship.
Drone Compliment 200 'Hornet' Drones. 'Hornets' are high-speed, high maneuverability ovaloid drones with two internal auto cannons, and an on board high-explosive warhead. They can be used to harass, or impact enemy vessels. 120 'Blinder' Drones. 'Blinders' are cylindrical, high speed, low maneuverability drones with mounted sensor-scrambling devices. Meant to disable and jam enemy detection equipments. 30 'Aegis' Drones. 'Aegis' drones are 10 meter, hexagonal drones, that are effectively large, maneuverable shields, that can be used as ablative armor. In a majority of cases, they can actually defend better and less expensively then shielding systems, yet are obviously constrained to only being able to shield the ship or allies with themselves.
Uhhh, hello. I know Kio from somewhere else and they invited me here, just got on. I'm not new to RP-ing in general but I am new to here specifically, sorry if I commit a huge no-no specific to this forum or anything! hehe.
Anyway, I'll be posting my ship in the characters tab ASAP, I already got the basic idea fairly well thought out in my mind I think. Sorry if I'm a bit vague! I'm not all that mechanically inclined, y'know?
