“And when she first used her powers and severed Jaesa Willsaam from the Force, Hayden gained Force Lightning without any prior training.
“Becca and I encountered Willsaam again when we were locked in that secret prison. She’d gone insane as a result of what Hayden did, and reverted to some sort of a rabid animal.”
I look at Jude. “You remember when we went to that Lab on Myrkr? All those children Malori somehow cut off from the Force? They were practically zombies. You should know better than to attempt something like that again.”
“If it’s any consolation, my vote was to just kill it.”
I turn and slap Jude upside the head. “Alright, you’ve all made your points. Making this kid a husk will be torturous. But what else can we do? You don’t know what this child will become. What if you’re all wrong? What if it grows up and becomes a new Vitiate? I could have stopped it before it began. What’s one life against the fate of the universe?”
“Because we don’t make those calls!” I catch myself as I raise my voice, and I make an effort to control myself. I’m surprised Korre has been able to sleep through this. She must be exhausted. “Hayden, think about it. What will happen to you if you try this on something that powerful? What if you aren’t actually cutting them off, but absorbing their Force essence? Isn’t it coincidental that after you ‘severed’ Willsaam, you developed Sith Lightning and started exhibiting Dark Side traits, then after you ‘severed’ Marek, you gained Force Sight and started to drift back towards the Light Side? What’s going to happen when you use your power on this child who, in a previous life, had godlike power and a desire to kill all life in the Galaxy? At best, you’ll overwhelm yourself with the massive influx of energy and your body will be destroyed. At worst, you might become a being of unimaginable darkness.”
I stare at my mother for several moments, unable to think of how to respond. What she said made a lot of sense, and what’s worse, I could tell that Cosen and Gavin agreed with her. The only person who I could tell was still on my side was Jude... which wasn’t helpful. “Damn.”
