No, I just saw this fairy-tale yesterday...though I did read the manga twist version of it years ago. It does end with the princess getting her prince though, but the plot is pretty much what you wanted. Just make it a different ending.
A maid muscles her way into switching places with the princess. It works 'cause the princess is going off into a different kingdom to be married to their prince, and her parents wouldn't likely visit for years...?

"If you want to bake a delicious cake, you gotta crack a few eggs, you know?" Letting Yamamoto remove her arms wrapped around his shoulders, she stuck the same finger she has stuck into his mouth into her own, "Ah, thank you for the indirect kiss, Yamamoto-san. I'll cherish it, always!" Not waiting for a response, Yuuki unbuttoned and pulled off her lightly oiled dress shirt, revealing a dark long sleeved V-neck shirt underneath. Folding the dress shirt in a particular way, she used it to clean off the jam splatters quite quickly and surprisingly efficiently (though, somehow, completely skipped over the oil itself), before stepping in the doorway again.

Folding the dress shirt yet again, so that a completely clean section was now exposed, she pulled out a chair and checked it over...pressing down on it with her shoe clad foot on it as a stress test, just in case it might just collapse with her on it...she set the folded shirt on the chair with the clean side up, and took her seat on it. After all, she didn't want the chair to get all too messy with jam and oil. Turning to face the others, one at a time, she gave them each an easy smile as she leaned back in her chair, "I was so enraptured by the shy Yamamoto-san, I seemed to forget my manners. Good morning Kawamura-san, Matsumoto-san, Oka-san, Kaneda-san...how have you all been this morning?"

Lucy: *comes running in, head down in an intimidated manner* "Y-yes, Sakaki-san...?"
Sakaki: *pulls out a cigarette, lights it, and takes a few long drags while Lucy waits in silence* "Put your hand on the counter, Yoshiba."
Lucy: >.> <( ? ? ? ) "Eh? Uh, okay..." *unsure*
Sakaki: *pulls out a covered knife* *-* <( . . . ) "This will be over soon, Yoshiba-san. You just have to learn to do your work better, as well...with only four fingers on this hand, from now on."
Lucy: "Kyaaaaaaaaaaa~!" *faints*
Sakaki: *catches Yoshiba-san*
Kiku: "Wow, she thought you were serious, Sakaki-san."
Sakaki: "Yup, I still got it." *holds a hand up for a high five*
Kiku: *returns high five*
Sakaki: *wipes up counter with one hand, while supporting a fainted Lucy in his other arm*

Finishing his usual practise of dusting everything, since they hadn't been dusted till two days ago or so, he slipped the ostrich feather duster back into the apron and walked off into the back. Of course, before that, in passing, he couldn't help but notice Koshiba trying to talk to Yuudai. They seemed odd as a pair, but he was sure they'd have an interesting interaction. Getting behind the counters, it was only then that he noticed something. Leaning in close, he saw a thin layer of icing spread over the counter top...going to the back, he picked up the discarded wash cloth and returned out behind the counter.

"Koshiba."

His call wasn't loud, but it was clear and piercing. Waiting for the girl to come to him, he stood still and silent.

Ursa - oh okay! makes sense! So now that we have an idea of the story of where your character comes from, would you type up a quick personal back story for him? Explain his relationship a bit better and go into what he does in the fantasy land? Was he cursed into making it night? Etc...

There isn't much to it, yet...I haven't gotten much background thought up.

Originally the shadow of Death himself, kinda like this story The Shadow, just separated from him one day...except he more or less became Death's son instead of his replacement. After the red rider and the white rider, Sun and Day, come into existence by ___, he was given the name and role of Night. Sometimes, he just takes on a human form and chills in his darkness he creates till Day takes over for him, or practises jousting with Sun before bringing his darkness. Other times, he just is the darkness, the Night.

Being the Night, most humans see him as intimidating, even dangerous, a perfect personification of the darkness he represents and the (super)natural son of Death. He is very close companions with the other two riders, and has only befriended one human to date (his father's godson), though he has also made the acquaintance of Vasilisa during the girl's donor trial by Baba Yaga. He has a strong sense of justice, and though he unintentionally hides criminals, sometimes he has Day drive them out of his cloak of darkness to face justice in the morning light.
