Personality:

Jeffrey is generally a very gentle and kind man. He’s also a friendly guy who likes to get along with and get to know other people. In addition, he’s a guy who likes the feel of a touch – he might come off as “weird” to some people who are not used to his disregard for physical personal space. He tends to be very polite, rarely cussing, and tends to try and deliver his point as straight, honest and concise as possible. If he can’t find a word he’s looking for to accurately describe his words, he can get a little stuck in his word search and can blank out on occasion. Snapping his fingers together helps him think better when he’s a little lost, though.

As nice of a guy as he is, he doesn’t particularly care whole-heartedly for others that are outside his circle of friends or family. Sure, he might come off as friendly, but if something bad happens to someone who he considers a stranger or an acquaintance, he isn’t disturbed at all. Even though he may act really friendly, he is wary of people he hasn’t met before, and will take ample steps to observe their words and meanings, and their behaviors, and use these against them in case they turn out to be enemies; he is particularly brutal to anyone who crosses his path.

He has a soft spot for animals, but despises children; he does a very good job of hiding it, though. He’s not particularly ambitious, and only really wants to do enough to get by on comfortable living. However, Jeffrey does not like slackers, and usually kicks any coworker’s ass (figuratively) feeling cheeky enough to lie back and not contribute. If there’s one thing he has particular fun with being ambitious, it’s his bartender job where he gets to woo his male or female customers with his gentle charm and decent looks for extra tips. Not only that, he gets to do a little underground blackjack dealing with more regular customers during the closing hours of the store.

He thinks arrogant people are a funny thing: they are simply about to burst at the seams being full of themselves, ready to pop with a single touch of a sharp, candid tongue. He is not intimidated by them, or most anything except the few dark things that can reach the far back, shadowy crevices of his mind. On the other hand, he thinks people who belittle themselves sincerely are quite annoying, and should get a self-esteem check and develop one, or shut up.

His morals are a little on the gray side: his views on justice and righteousness flip flop one way or the other depending on what gathered information he has. He does not believe in the absoluteness of the law, but he also believes that there are certain acts of great, despicable corruption that should be punished harshly no matter what.

Abilities: Jeffrey has an affinity with Force, which means that he is talented with “destruction”, “buffing”, and “teleportation” type spells. However, he does not know much outside of standard reinforcement of physical body strength and the simple force blast, as only recently did he discover his powers for himself.

Weapons/Equipment: His deck of cards that he constantly carries around. He casts his spells by throwing a card with its “flat side” facing towards him, held afloat by a bit of Force, writing the magic symbol, mumbling the spell name, and “punching” the card so that a magical blast comes out. As for bodily reinforcements, his card must be slapped onto the part of the body he wants to strengthen; otherwise, he still must write the symbol and say the words to make the spell have any decent effect on it.

Jeffrey used to be a normal child with a normal family: his father a businessman, his mother a registered nurse, and him, just stupid and fun loving. His father was a rising business tycoon in the small city of Jaro, from the Philippines, but he fell in love with his Japanese mother while she was travelling the world as a young woman. They married soon after they met and fell in love, and he decided, despite the risks and his already established status, to start over with the love of his life in Japan. Happy, naïve, and ignorant of the events that would lead up to his less than admirable position in life, Jeffrey liked to play and goof around, and was very close to his parents, especially his father. They would spend time cooking their mom’s favorite dishes, play sports, read bed time stories, and talk about all different kinds of things. Sadly, shortly after his 10th birthday, his father mysteriously disappeared on a business trip to a small, unrenowned city called Fujiyoshida, in the Yamanashi prefecture. After contacting local authorities in the city, the police and detectives found it very odd that he would disappear in an area very near the forest of death, Aokigahahra. They suggested “suicide” as a possible lead, although Jeffrey’s mother vehemently insisted that her husband had no real reason to take his own life. She believed him to be a happy, hardworking, and fulfilled man: how could he leave his family like that? The authorities could not find an answer, worsened by the fact that despite doing a thorough search of the forest, they could not find his body. This drained them of all possible leads, as the man literally disappeared off the face of the earth, with nothing to prove that he set foot on the city at all except for his business briefcase, sent promptly back to the family.

This shattered Jeffrey so much, that he would not speak to anyone except his mother for two whole weeks. Even when he finally managed to finally have the emotional stability to talk to his friends, he lost something important that day that he could never get back. His mother, to make up for the income loss, had to work two jobs, compiling up to 12 hours a day of work. She had no time to take care of Jeffrey’s growing emotional needs, both as a boy who had just lost his precious father, and a developing, clueless teenager.

As a result, he got into a lot of trouble at both inside and outside of his school. He got into fights with other kids, bullied them, made fun of the teachers, and other general mischief during his early years of loss. Once he hit high school, however, things began to take a much steeper, fatal turn: he got into drugs, joined a prominent local gang, and was always in fights. . It was during this time that Jeffrey noticed that, whenever he was really excited to fight, and constantly chanted the phrase “Mabakud Abaga”, his punches felt just a little bit stronger, and he was more than ready to fight; this was his first usage of his magical abilities, even though he did not know it. It was one of the few words that his father taught him of his own native language. "It means 'strong arms'", Jeffrey's dad explained to him. "When your legs fail to carry the weight out of your body, whether that be out of exhaustion or the heaviness of your spirit, your arms keep the center of your being off the ground, refusing to give in. These words help to reinforce that idea: never give up."

His grades suffered terribly as a result of his delinquent activities, and as a result, he and his mother got into a lot of arguments, often ending with him walking out of the door, going to the red light district, and taking out his frustrations through sexual means.

Several events led him up to where he is now, a bartender at a thriving club, including dropping out of high school. Between then, he worked several odd jobs to net himself a place of shelter and livable conditions without having to rely on his mother. One day, while thinking about his father and his odd way of disappearance, he decided to pay her house a visit. They didn’t speak much for a time, but afterwards, he finally opened up to her and mentioned his thoughts. She sat there, carefully listening to each and every word and taking note of the feelings of hurt and missed affection that came with them. After he finished, she led Jeffrey into his father’s study, where the suitcase from his last business trip sat on top of his work table. He went over to it, opened it, and was surprised that there was scarcely anything in there but a navy blue book with a strange symbol on its front cover: a circle crossed with three vertical lines. He flipped it open, but it only contained stranger, unrecognizable symbols and a language he was not familiar with except for the most prominent phrase of his teenage years: “Mabakud Abaga”. He and his mother discussed, went and thought over what they could possibly do with this book; Jeffrey never mentioned his discovery, and suggested that he would keep it as a memento to his father. Unbeknownst to his mother, the book was of greater importance than she would ever believe, and her own very un-achademic son was going to study it.

Jeffrey had heard rumors of a special agency that dealt with... the less ordinary of criminal cases. He decided to drop in to visit before work, although he found it quite particular that, upon trying to locate the building of interest for the first time, people thought him crazy in the head and laughed at him. When he finally found Toshiko's agency, he got more than he expected: a pretty cute head detective, and a possible explanation for the disappearance of his father. With all these resources at his disposal and wanting to find his father, if he was still at all alive, he decided to join the agency as a part-time detective.
