As someone who works for a pet store I both love and hate pixar. The next person that tries to ask me if we have "a dory fish" for their goldfish bowl is getting straight up clubbed like a baby seal

Badass. =DAlso might be worth looking into...all of my races are based on the novel I'm writing, so I'm always looking to add new things. I have an African character (one of the Dragons), but not really any based on mythical creatures from there. The RP is an experiment to see how my universe works in motion, and also because I like to see people's creativity at work. I won't be using anyone's submitted ideas in my writing, of course, but it does add some intrigue beyond the normal 'mythical creatures blah blah' because this is a universe where anything and everything has the potential to exist. The penchant for mimicking speech is an interesting reoccurring ability. Werewolves and Skinwalkers have both also been said to do that, I assume because it taps into a primal fear.

Here's hoping that we can help see your novel to completion. And skinwalkers are generally the worst perpetrators of human mimicry, if only because they can either do a pitch perfect imitation, or distort the speech patterns in some truly horrifying ways

That's one I've never heard of.

Depending on whether the one being talked about is from africa or india: In the case of the african variant, imagine if you would, a horse sized cross between a lion and a hyena, rumored to be able to use shapeshifting magic, sporting two absolutely massive jagged pieces of bone in place of teeth in both its upper and lower jaws, a horrifyingly strong bite, the ability to mimick human speech to lure victims out, and a nasty penchant for digging up and devouring corpses.

I'll explain my character's race-It is a bit like a Crocotta mixed with a Siren. Kinda. Other than that it is completely original.I have named them Firenze (pronounced Fear-en-zee NOT Fire-enzee). They look like humans normally, and feed off of human souls and sanity. When feeding, Firenze hide behide something and wait. Whenever they see someone, they can almost read the victims mind. (In public this can get very overpowering, so Firenze like to be alone) Their voice changes so that it sounds like someone the victim knows. The Firenze then screams or beckons the victim over, using the voice of one of the victim's loved ones. (If this is confusing you, skip a couple sentences and read that instead) When the victim is near enough, the Firenze then captures and feeds from them. Usually, a victim is left with slight insanity or a mental disorder e.g. deafness, depression, hallucinations or anxiety etc. So, if Bob was walking along, thinking about his son, Jimmy, the Firenze's voice would change to Jimmy's. The Firenze would then call Bob over and feed from him.Firenze need to feed at least once every 72 hours. If they don't, they can get moody, malicious and even a little mad. They turn quite 'evil' and are unpredictable when they are hungry. So which category?

>Crocotta

You fire, have just earned my eternal respect for holding knowledge of one of the most awesome monster myths to come out of africa.
S'all good crim. We've hung on this long, we can hang on a bit more i'm sure.

Jason shrugged at Jacque's comments, swinging the sword ahead of himself as he walked, as if checking the balance. It was surprisingly light for its size, yet very sturdy. He wondered if maybe it was a titanium alloy, before his train of thought shifted to the question of how Warden was able to manipulate it. He looked back at Jacque as they kept walking. "Ours is a race of warriors, Jacque. We grow complacent and lazy in times of peace, so we need war every now and then to advance ourselves." He said, spinning the blade on his hand. He seemed to be pretty skilled with it, despite not looking like a guy that could pass for a soldier or an athlete. "It's how we've achieved our current tech level and how we'll keep advancing it. Besides... I'm sure you've noticed, but we humans are very squishy, individually. As a race, though... you just don't mess with a population with centuries of knowledge on how to best kill things."

Jacque's mouth twitched ever so slightly as he contemplated whether to laugh or grimace,"Young Jason, i've studied war, i've SEEN war, what you humans do cannot be called war, it can only be called destruction." Jacque said calmly as he lifted his cane and examined it. "You see, my people never had such troubles, likely because we viewed combat to be unsavory. Not to say we were above it, it was just when we fought, it was usually when some of our kind decided to try to reveal themselves to the world, or there a clash among houses over how your species was to be dealt with. You humans might have been our primary food source, but lets be honest, you were a danger not only to yourselves, but to other species as well. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times some houses have tried to organize a means to either enslave you all, or conduct a mass culling simply because we were afraid that the next war your kind fought would end the planet.".

Jacque lowered the cane and continued walking alongside Jason, "When my people finally DID reveal themselves to the humans, you know what their first response was? To try to wipe us out entirely. It was as though their fragile minds couldn't handle not being at the top of the foodchain. The calls for war were eventually quelled, but it helped us realize something; your species is literally incapable of going more than a few decade without finding a new battlefield. If they cannot find one single enemy, then they make one of their neighbors. They cannibalize each other while at the same time desperately searching for something different from them to fight instead. Your race isn't one of warriors...it's a race of monsters.".

Jacque felt as though he was beginning to talk a bit to much and closed his mouth, though there wasn't much time for the silence to become awkward as alarms suddenly began to blare throughout the ship, eliciting a groan from Jacque, "What now?".
I'm still around if you guys are down.
