"I guess that makes all three of us idiots then, huh?" Dimitri said with a tired sigh. The sudden loudness of the announcement outside caused Dimitri to jolt, which in turn sent Brutus to his paws with startling speed for such a large dog. At first Brutus began to bare his teeth and growl at Melissa and Cliff again under the assumption that they were responsible for Dimitri's actions, however another rough pat in the ribs cut the dog off before more could be done. Dimitri's face paled as he listened to what the district manager had to say. He already knew for a fact that this would mean the end of Brutus, as people were often quick to expel animals to save their food, or worse, resort to killing pets for their meat. Another issue was the fact that Dimitri himself needed nourishment to keep up in his highly physical job. By Dimitri's count this morning he had approximately three ration packs a box of crackers, and two cans of soup left, but they wouldn't last long even if he did carefully ration them and Brutus continued hunting vermin.

"What do you mean, "does it for you"?" Dimitri asked as he eyed Melissa. He felt as though he already knew what she might have been implying, however he couldn't be sure until he actually heard her say it.
"Metal worker..." Dimitri mumbled as if trying the work on for size. Dimitri sat up just a little bit straighter when the subject of why he'd bothered to help was brought up, "Well don't take this the wrong way, but I was originally just going to leave you guys to whatever those men had planned for you. After all I earned everything I got by working myself ragged and keeping to myself. Then I saw that kid freaking out and trying to help her pa and well, I couldn't let a little girl and her father be tortured or killed. I couldn't live with myself if I just let that happen." he explained as he stopped patting Brutus' head. Brutus eyed Cliff warily, however because Dimitri didn't get worked up the dog simply lied down on the floor, glancing over at the newcomers every now and then, "Since you guys just so happened to be trying to help her father out, I figured i'd help you guys out as well. Guess you folks could say that kid saved your life.", Dimitri slipped both hands behind his head and gave a little shrug, "Now that I think about it, why were you folks helping that guy? You don't sound like the compassionate type either."
Ironically, I actually just came back from a long ass walk.
Dimitri idly stroked Brutus' head as he watched Melissa attempt to make herself comfortable on the floor. For a few moments he seemed to consider something, and then sank down in the couch to make himself more comfortable. It might've been a bit risky to relax as he currently was, however the fact that soldiers weren't kicking in his door, and with Brutus by his side, he was certain that he'd have the upper hand if the people he'd helped got unruly. Dimitri was caught off guard by Melissa's inquiry considering the air of distrust each individual had, however after eight seconds he decided that he'd humor her. "I'm a farm hand. I make sure people have food to bring home by working out in the greenhouses." He stated before lazily waving at the wall closest to him, knowing by heart what direction the greenhouse was from his home. Despite the languid nature of his movement the muscles and veins in Dimitri's arms visibly rolled beneath his skin, betraying the strength packed into them with the simple gesture. "What about yourself?" Dimitri asked before stifling a yawn.
I'm inclined to agree with King here, it would be interesting to explore the world and truly learn how to survive. That and so long as we're in the colony the primary threat that prompted the creation of it in the first place is completely removed from the equation unless there's an outbreak of infected behind the walls.
Dimitri grabbed the knob of the door with his left hand and calmly raised his right as he swung the door open. There was a sound of panting and nails clicking against a hardwood floor before Dimitri extended his right hand to stop eighty pounds of rhodesian ridgeback from plowing into him. Brutus gave a small yip of excitement as Dimitri patted him on the head and ushered him further back into the apartment so the others could enter. When Brutus saw the people behind Dimitri, for a moment the canine's hackles raised, and his lips pulled back in a snarl to show a gleaming set of sharp teeth, however a quick pat on the side calmed the dog down. The apartment itself was completely unremarkable and homely: In the living room there was a large old black leather couch that sat in front of a stand that housed a boombox and a collection of CDs, the kitchen was separated from the living room and the rest of the apartment by two walls and a pair of double doors that would open to reveal a cramped but surprisingly neat kitchen, from the second set of double doors, there was a right turn into the hallway that would lead to the bathroom, and another right turn from there would lead to two bedrooms. "Make yourselves comfortable, I guess." Dimitri said before walking over to the couch with Brutus in tow and sitting down.
Dimitri snarled as his jaws closed on empty air, though the momentary feeling of disappointment was quickly replaced by a wave of pain in his back and a fresh burst of anger. The wendigo turned to face Emmett as well as the new comer Kita before getting onto all fours, twisting his head a bit, and raking his horns across the concrete "I ain't a dog chump." he growled before rushing forward at full speed with his head still tilted down in an effort to skewer both of his opponents like a rampaging bull. This was exactly what he was looking for, with Emmett's abilities there was no way that the hunt would be over too quickly. As a slight handicap for the as of yet unknown person, the wendigo slowed his charge by a small margin in the hopes that she'd be able to dodge. If Kita could not, then as far as Dimitri was concerned that was just too bad.
The moment that Melissa came into contact with the door, a deep guttural growl began to emanate from the other side of it. Dimitri meanwhile nodded to Hank and Murphy as they made their way for their own apartment. With a small sigh, the giant of a man slipped off one of his work boots and used it to keep the entrance to his apartment open before going up stairs. Noticing Melissa trying to listen for any sounds behind his door, Dimitri gave a soft cough to notify her of his presence before lightly tapping the door. The growling intensified at the sound, to which Dimitri responded by whistling six notes, the first three being long in a pattern of high, low, and high again, and the last three being short and high, imitating the call of a white throated sparrow. The growling stopped and was immediately replaced by the sound of whining and a few scratches at the bottom of the door. "My personal anti-burglarly device." He grunted to Melissa before gesturing to the doorknob, "You mind?".
After being seen to have his hands properly cleaned and bandaged, Adrian exited the medical tent still looking a little shaken and exhausted, but ultimately much better now that he'd had a chance to have his wounds looked at and clear his head. During his search for survivors Adrian had never stopped trying to find any piece of evidence that could help him find the one responsible for the school's destruction. It defied explanation, as the (self proclaimed) world's second greatest hunter, Adrian had been taught from the moment he was capable of learning that everything left some sort of trail behind when it moved. It could be anything; a scent, a track, even something as easily missed as a bent branch or a crushed leaf. Sure in the city it was a bit harder to find a trail, but even then the pattern still remained the same. But there was no evidence to be found here, nothing that could possibly used to track. The only thing Adrian knew of that left absolutely no traces was when someone or something went full on scorched earth, but even that couldn't have been the case as it would have wiped out everything.

Adrain gripped his head as if trying to force his brain into overdrive, "There's got to be something I missed. Has to be. Has to be." he muttered tiredly.
Dimitri stepped a bit to the side to allow entry into his apartment building, "I may just be the dumbest man on the planet for risking my ass for you guys. My room is on the third floor, the door's unlocked but you may want to wait for me to open it. Brutus doesn't take to kindly to surprise visits" he stated as he glanced back down the street. Every fiber of Dimitri's being was screaming at him to just shut the door and mind his own business, but he knew the law for helping a criminal that had just been punished. There's no way he'd be able to sleep at night if he didn't lift a finger to keep a child from hanging.
