Alyce couldn't believe it when someone appeared. She was even more surprised when he attacked and killed the Clicker. He knew she was there because he offered her help. She didn't know if she could trust someone outside the QZ, but it was obvious she couldn't trust that many inside the QZ either. Plus he had a weapon, which would be useful in getting her back inside in one piece. And he offered clothes. Bonus.

Alyce crawled out from under her hiding place. "Yes," she sad, wincing in pain. "I need help."
She held up her hand to show him the two fingers out of joint. "Clothes would be nice, but please could you pop these back into place? It hurts so much."
She covered her mouth as he did it, to keep her scream of agony muffled. But once it was done the relief was amazing. And once that pain was gone she was able to feel others. She groaned in pain when she moved.
"Now... about those clothes?" she asked.

As she got dressed, slowly and painfully, she told him what happened. "I'm a Resource Distributer inside the QZ. Some of the locals are not happy with the dwindling supplies. They think we're keeping them for ourselves," she looked him in the eye. "It's not true. I swear it's not. We are suffering just as much as everyone else. But anyway, the new trend is to rough up RD's as some kind of revenge on the government. They don't give a rat's ass about us though, so it's all a waste. One of my co-workers was beaten badly and hung upside down naked. This is the first time I've ever heard of them leaving someone outside of the QZ."
She looked at herself and winced. "Guess I won't be winning any beauty contests for a while huh? And they were interrupted. I'd hate to think what I would have looked like if they had done everything they meant to."
She tried to smile, to make light of the situation in order to deal with it better, but winced at the pain in her cut lip. "Ow," she whimpered. Her fingers were sore and her body felt like it had been through a cement mixer.

"Thank you for the help. You saved my life," she told the strange man, praying he had meant to and wasn't about to either kill her or leave her. "I don't have anything to pay you with, but if you get me back into the city to my apartment, I've got a few ration cards saved and a small bottle of scotch I could give to you. It's not much, but it's all I have."
Jessalyn - House - Floyd

It was amazing how a man could make a woman feel while using no words at all.
The kiss was unexpected and make her eyes open wide in surprise. Then her eyes fluttered closed and she leaned closer. The kiss wasn't hot or exactly passionate. It was sweet and chaste, like a first kiss was supposed to be.
Her heart was pounding in her ears, but when he pulled away she realized there was also pounding at the door.
Floyd immediately leapt into action, pulling out his knife and ordering to stay in the kitchen. She nodded even though she doubted he heard her.

Things happened so quickly. Floyd ran out to kill the walker and the man stayed inside the house. Jess got their water bottle and was about to offer the man water when he pointed his gun at Floyd. Jess backed away behind the corner with her hand over her mouth. As he threatened Floyd she looked around frantically for something she could use as a weapon. They were heading up the stairs when she found a pan. She crept towards the stairs and was about to sneak up and hit the man when she heard the shot.
"Floyd!" she screamed as the two men came tumbling down the stairs. Fortunately she was just out of their path and didn't get hit. Jess threw the pan at the man in a panic and it hit him in the chest right before Floyd stabbed him in the head.

Jess placed a hand on her heart, trying to calm her breathing. She realized the front door was still open so she shut and locked it.
But as she turned around she was in time to see Floyd fall to the floor.
"Floyd!" she cried and ran to him. She saw the blood and started to panic all over again. "No... no! No Floyd!" she cried and hugged him, getting his blood on her borrowed clothes. "No, no, no," she kept repeating the word, unable to stop herself.
This couldn't be happening. It just couldn't. Not when they were... were...

Jess ripped the bottom of her shirt, pressing the fabric into his wound. "Tell me what to do. I don't know what to do," she begged. "Please be okay. Please!"
She shook her head in denial. Why was this happening? Just a few mintues ago they had been safe and happy and... and kissing. Why did things always go wrong? whenever she experienced a bit of happiness something horrible happened. It was like she was cursed.

Katie - Truck - Audrey

Katie was scared. There were these new people now and they seemed like they wanted to help, but they were strangers. What if they were lying?
But when asked for her name she gave it automatically, knowing that even though she annoyed him that Bull would protect her if they tried to hurt her or Lauren.
When they placed Lauren in the truck bed Katie climbed in too along with the woman called Audrey. She was crying, which made Katie feel bad for her. Maybe she had lost her daddy too. It was something new and intriguing to see someone other then her crying.

So Katie moved carefully over to the woman and sat beside her. She patted her arm with her little hand. "My daddy's gone," she said. "He went away." Her eyes brimmed with tears that she wiped away. She didn't need to be crying at the same time as Audrey. It was Audrey's turn. If they were both crying... she didn't know why but she just felt that wouldn't be right.
Jessalyn - House - Floyd

Jess couldn't help it. The more Floyd told her, the more tears came to her eyes. By the time he was on the floor and crying she was sobbing. Especially when he promised not to leave her. She got down on her knees and knelt beside her, wrapping her arms around him in a hug. She didn't say anything for a while, just hugged him.
Finally she pulled and smiled through her tears, brushing his hair out of his face. She cupped his face in her hands. "If we stay together, everything will be okay," she told him. "I can feel it."

She hugged him again. "You are not your father. If you were, you would have left me in the city with the walkers. You would have left me underground in the catacombs. You are a good man Floyd. A kind man. I don't mind you being a little rough around the edges, because you show by your actions that you have honor. Stop living in his shadow. You are a good man. You have to start believing that. Okay?"

Giving in to the impulse, she kissed his cheek gently. Then she kissed it again. The third time she changed the angle at the last moment and kissed his lips.
She pulled back quickly, face bright red from embarrassment. She looked at him from under her eyelashes.
Compared to him she was little more then a child. She hoped he wouldn't be offended, or worse treat her like a kid with a crush.
Because that was what she felt like she had. She genuinely, seriously liked Floyd. He was tall and strong and kind. He had the ability to protect her, to provide for her and her child. With him, she felt safe and secure.

"Your anger scares me, but it doesn't change how I see you," she said, staring at his chest because she couldn't meet his eyes after kissing him, afraid of what she would see in them. "But you're so strong, you can beat it. I don't just mean physically. You have a strong character. One that I hope you will always have."
going to be adding a post for Katie in a bit.
Jessalyn - House - Floyd

Jess stayed under the covers for quite a while before peeking her head out. Things were no different then they had been, but she knew she couldn't hide forever. She would have to face Floyd, hoping that his anger had cooled off by now.
But maybe she would put it off for just a little longer.

Getting up, she went to the closet and started sorting through the clothing. The woman who had lived her before had kept a few of her maternity clothes but she had been taller then Jess. She changed out of her dirty travel clothes into a pair of shorts, the openings for the legs were a little big, and a flowing bohemian style maternity top. It was white with blue flowers on it.
The rest of the clothes, the ones that wouldn't fit her, Jess pushed into the back of the closet.
Next came the men's clothes. The man had been about as tall as Floyd but not as muscular. The shirts would probably not fit, but the pants looked like they would work alright. If she found a needle and thread she could probably take the hem out of the shirts and resew them to make them bigger.

She was still in the sorting process when she heard Floyd's footsteps. She tensed a moment before she realized he was not coming in.
A knock and a faint 'I'm sorry' was all she heard before he walked off again.
Jess stared at the clothes, thinking. He had apologized. Maybe he really hadn't meant to get so angry. He still needed to learn to control his temper though, especially with a baby on the way. She wouldn't have him losing his temper around her child.

Picking up a few pairs of pants that she thought would fit him, Jess opened the door to see he had started down the stairs.
She walked to him without shaking, proud of herself for it, and held out the clothes to him. "The shirts are too small, but I'm going to try and fix them. The pants should fit, if you want a change of clothes."

She went down the stairs, waiting for him to follow. She wasn't going to mention anything about what had happened. He had apologized and that was the end of it. But there was something she needed to do.

They went into the kitchen and she pulled out a chair for him and another for herself. "Please sit and talk with me," she asked.
When he sat she took a deep breath. "I think you need to understand me more, and I need to understand you. So I am going to tell you about myself and, in turn, I am hoping you will feel comfortable enough to tell me about yourself. I am not going to force you," she added quickly. "It is your choice."
Taking another breath, she began.

"My father left when I was five. He was an alcoholic. He wasn't mean or abusive, he was just stupid. He couldn't hold a job because of his drinking problem and he did dumb things when he was drunk. I think he sort of cared about me, in his own way, but I wasn't the boy he wanted and he loved his alcohol more then me. One day I came home from school and he was... just gone. My mom would never talk about him to me until I was 13 and I forced her to tell me about him."
She cleared her throat before she continued. "I had a brother. A half-brother that my mother had before she married my dad. His name was Nick. He... He hated me for being born. Always did. It went from him being mean and teasing me as children, to him either ignoring my existence completely or yelling at me for things I didn't do. He even tried to kill me once. We were swimming in a pool and he tried to drown me. When the outbreak happened, we were in all in the car trying to get away. He shoved me out of the car and drove off without a second glance."

Jessalyn had to take a moment. This was hard for her to talk about. "For some reason I loved him. I tried everything I could to win his love. I would have done anything if it meant that he would treat me as a brother should treat his sister. Pretty stupid huh?"

She wiped her eyes and breathed. "So anyway," she continued, her voice a little hoarse. "After all of that I met Bruce. He said he would look after me, that he would take me somewhere safe. All I had to do was do him a favor : Lay still. After he was... done with me, he took me to Lynn and left me with her. I found out I was pregnant three months later. I didn't see or hear from Bruce until Eli took me to Haywood. He was the leader there. He was going to trade me to Tyler for supplies, as he had done with other women, but there was an uprising and he was overthrown from his leadership. They brought him to me after Eli was killed, wanting me to kill him. He lied to me again, filling my head with apologies and saying how he wanted to love me and take care of our child. I stupidly believed him. I wanted it to be true, even though unconciously I knew it wasn't. He attacked me the moment he was loose. He almost killed me before they shot him."

She smiled, but her smile was not humorous in the slightest. "So, as you can see, my track record with men is not the best. So if I come across as needy or clingy or scared of being abandoned, now you know why. It is not because I think badly of you, I am just afraid that whatever is in men that makes them hate me will make you hate me. I don't know what I do that makes every man I let in hate me, but I'm scared of it happening with you too. That I will do something to make you hate me and you'll leave me behind like everyone does."

Katie - Farm - Bull, Lauren

Katie heard the shot and saw Lauren fall. "NO!" she screamed. "No Lauren no! Don't go away!"
When Bull appeared and held the woman Katie looked around. The man who had shot her was arguing with another man. "You bad man!" she shouted angrily.
The next minute there was a shot and the man was the ground, dead. Katie screamed and ran behind Bull.
"Go away!" she yelled at the man who had shot the mean man. "Leave us alone!" she ordered.
Katie - Farm - Bull, Lauren

Katie was scared. A man shouted at Lauren, pulling a gun on her. She whimpered and Bull shushed her, but she could tell he was worried too.
Suddenly Lauren ran towards them. Katie gasped. The man had told Lauren not to move. He had a gun.

"Lauren!" Katie screamed and jerked away from Bull. Racing out from the bushes, she ran towards Lauren screaming. "No!"
When she reached the woman Katie jumped, wrapping her little arms and legs around her. She was crying. Looking over Lauren's shoulder at the man with the gun, her eyes were wide with terror.

Jessalyn - House - Floyd

Jess couldn't believe Foyd's reply. He got angry at her. When the vase smashed against the wall she cried out, covering her ears against the sound. She had never meant for this, would never have believed that Floyd would be this violent with her. Apparently he took it as an insult that she wanted him to stay.
But he was right in a way. She was comparing him to Bruce. Bruce had left her, why not Floyd too? But it was just her experience with men. They left.
And they abused.

Then he was pulling her arm, hurting her as he dragged her out of the room and down the hallway.
What she saw in the room horrified her beyond words.
It was a baby's room. Covered in blood. She couldn't stop her eyes from going to the crib. The gore inside...
The whole scene burned deeply into her mind, staying with her even after he pulled her out and shut the door. He snarled at her one more time before leaving.

Without him to hold her up Jessalyn crumbled to the floor. His footsteps echoed down the steps. Jess covered her mouth to stifle the sobs. She rocked back and forth, squeezing her eyes shut and trying to force the image of what she had just seen from her mind.
She had never thought she needed to be afraid of Floyd before. But that temper was more fearful then anything she had seen or experienced so far. Really the blood and gore of the child's room could be forgotten, but the sense of betrayal she felt at that moment couldn't. She felt betrayed and hurt at Floyd's reaction and his way of dealing with his anger.

Getting to her feet slowly and shakily, Jess stumbled along the wall to the bedroom. Once inside she shut the door and went to the bed. Pulling back the covers revealed that the bed was clean so Jess climbed in and pulled the covers up over her, like a small animal hiding in a nest. She curled into a ball and closed her eyes, trying to focus on stopping the shaking of her body.
Katie - Woods / Farm - Lauren, Bull

Katie woke up when Lauren shook her. A farm? Katie immediately started thinking of cows and pigs like in the picture book her daddy had given her.
Her daddy...

Tears pricked her eyes again, but Katie quickly wiped them away when she saw Bull. Usually around him she kept her head down so he wouldn't see her crying.
She wanted her daddy back, but that wasn't where all of her sadness came from.
The last time she had seen him, he had been so angry with her. That had been the last time they had been together and he had been angry. Her last memory was of him yelling at her. What she wanted, more then anything, was for her daddy to appear and hold her tight and tell her that he wasn't angry at her. Had he... gone away angry at her?

She sniffled and tugged on Lauren's hand. When the woman looked at her she lifted her arms, wanting Lauren to carry her. She knew that Bull would probably not like it, but she really wanted to be held.
When Lauren picked her up Katie buried her head into the woman's neck and held on as they walked.

When Lauren stopped walking she turned her head enough to peak out to see where they were.
A farmhouse stood there, looking surprisingly nice and lived-in.
"Lauren?" she whispered fearfully. "What if there are mean people there?"

Jessalyn - House - Floyd

Jess put the rag down and went up the stairs when Floyd mentioned it. It was obvious he wanted her to go so she did what he wanted.
The room was very nice. The bed was queen sized, the closet was full of clothes that looked clean and didn't smell bad. Compared to how they had been living this place was The Four Seasons.
When he left the room she sighed. It was like he couldn't stand to be in the same room with her. Was it because she was pregnant or did he really not like her as a person? He was staying with her and taking care of her, but that could be because he was a man and felt that because she was a woman he needed to protect her.
Part of her wanted to ask him about his feelings, but the other part was too nervous to ask. She didn't want to make him angry at her. If she was too much of a headache he would leave her here.

A new thought occurred to her. He had brought her to this house. It was safe and dry and a good place to live. It had a bed to sleep in, food to eat, clothes to wear.
Was he... planning to leave her here?
What if he was happy to find this place because it meant he was free of her? He could leave her here without feeling guilty.
This train of thought caused a pain in her chest and tears to prick at her eyes. She could feel the tears coming on and worked frantically to keep them away.

When he came back in, saying something about a room she should stay out of, her fear was so high she couldn't help it. She went up close to him and took hold of his arm so he couldn't back away like he always did.
"Are you going to leave me here?" she asked, her big sorrow-filled eyes searching his. "I know I'm a burden, but please don't leave me here by myself. Please Floyd," she begged, using his name for the first time.
Since they were the only two around there hadn't really been a reason to use his name or for him to use hers. They both knew who they were talking to when the other spoke. But the name slipped out as she begged.
"I can't lose anyone else," she continued. "I don't want to be alone. I'll do whatever you want. I can help with anything you want me to do. Just please, don't leave."
Jessalyn - Woods / House - Floyd

Jessalyn's smile faded when Floyd acted so cooly towards her. She couldn't help but feel sad when he acted that way, especially when she was trying to get closer to him. They had been traveling and surviving together for quite a while now. She just kept hoping he woudld start treating her as more then a stranger, or a cute animal he had picked up and was caring for.
She wanted to be his friend.
She wanted to be...

His words made her head snap up. Pack? Right, the house.
Jess nodded without speaking and packed what little they had. She carried one of the bags while he carried the other stuff. She felt badly about him carrying the bulk of their things, but she really couldn't in her condition.

The walk through the woods was silent. Jess felt the distance he purposefully put between them. It made her sad. She felt... lonely. It was a strange feeling, to be lonely with another person there.
Well, two actually. The corners of her mouth turned up as she patted her stomach gently.

The house was lovely in her eyes. A little dirty and unkept but that was to be expected. Once she got to work on it... she could already see it in her mind : a nice little home for the three of them.
Because she refused to even entertain the possibility that Floyd would leave her and her baby behind.

Entering the house, she brushed off the table and set her bag down. She began unpacking in the just-the-right-size kitchen, setting everything in a certain place and sorting things.
She managed to find a rag in one of the drawers and started wiping the layers of dust and dirt off of the counters.
She opened her mouth to break the silence, but closed it again when she couldn't think of anything valuable to say.
I'm pretty much back now. My posts will just be a little shorter and perhaps not as close together as they were before depending on how I am feeling. But I will post at least once a day.

Jessalyn - Woods / House - Floyd

Jess looked up and smiled with relief when Floyd returned. When he tossed her the can she caught in.
"Oh!" she exclaimed excitedly, her eyes shining happily. "Pineapple! I love pineapple!"
Thankfully the can had a pull-top on it so she had no trouble getting it open. And it was still good. Taking a deep drink of the juice, she savored the sweetness with her eyes closed in appreciation. Using her fingers she picked a few small pieces out and ate them slowly. She almost didn't hear him talking until the word house got to her.

"A house?" she echoed, her eyes wide with wonder. She had almost forgotten what it was like to be in a house. Would it have an actual bed? A bath? A door that locked?

She was brought from her thoughts when she heard Floyd swearing loudly. Scrambling to her feet she hurried to his side. "Here, let me see," she said, taking his hand gently and pulling it towards her to get a better look at the burn. Taking a piece of her shirt that was relatively clean, she dabbed at it gently to get the burning water off of his skin. She then blew on it to cool the area.
"It doesn't look like it will blister," she said before digging into the pack. They had found some aloe plants a few days before and she had broken off a few pieces to take with them. Taking one now, she broke the dried end off and squeezed it to get the medicinal gel out of the leaf before dabbing it as gently as she could onto the burn. Then she used her fingers to massage it in.

When she finished she looked up at him with a smile. "There. That should help. I hope."
She patted his wrist and packed the other leaves away. "The house sounds wonderful. Being able to stay somewhere safe and dry is a dream come true. You are amazing."
Jess had every confidence in this man. He hadn't let her down yet and always seemed to know exactly what to do in every situation.
