Jessalyn - House - Nightmare

Jess wasn't sure how long she was asleep, but she woke up violently after having a nightmare.
She had dreamed that she had gone into labor, but her baby had been born a walker. It was enough to make any woman horrified. She had enough anxieties about the birth of her child without nightmares like this.

Jess reached over next to her and found the bed empty.
... Right... of course... Just because she was pretending to be Floyd's woman didn't mean he had to be in the room with her.
Of course...
But the bed seemed so large... and cold...

She got up slowly, taking the blanket with her and walking carefully across the floor so as not to make too much noise. It was after dark and she didn't want to wake anyone up.
Going down the hallway, she spotted the door to the baby's room was slightly ajar. Looking inside she spotted Floyd on the floor.
Did he really not want to be in the same room as her? She wasn't that repulsive to him. Was she?

Ignoring the nagging feelings of doubt, Jess took a bold step for once in her life.
Getting down on the floor, she laid beside Floyd and pulled the blanket over them both. She didn't know if he woke up when she laid beside him or not, but she didn't really care if he did. She wasn't leaving. She needed someone beside her. She didn't like sleeping alone.
Laying on her side, facing him, she tucked her hand gently into the crook of his arm, holding on to him like an anchor. Her belly brushed against his side. Inside, her baby shifted a little, like he was settling in for the night too. Like he was content where they were.

Was it a he? Perhaps it was a girl. Jess hadn't even given thought to names. She supposed with how close she was getting she'd need to start thinking seriously about names.
Well if it was a boy she certainly wasn't going to name him 'Bruce'. With any luck, he'd grow up thinking that Floyd was his father.
The possiblity that Floyd may not want such a thing didn't even cross her mind. She couldn't see a future without him in it. She couldn't live without him now. He was as much a part of her life as her unborn child.
((collab post with Instantes))

A whisper of a scent made her freeze and turned her head to the side. Closing her eyes, Juliette inhaled deeply, sorting through the various scents in the air, searching for the one that had alerted her.
It was there. The scent of a Kindred. And her bloodline told her it was Ventrue, her clan that had forsaken her.

Fear spiked along with anger. Anger at herself for having been found so soon. She had at least expected to get as far as the Anarch territory before being found.
Fear because she was aware of what a stronger Ventrue could do to her before they destroyed her. She had seen the state of Kindred after Lacroix had them tortured by the Sheriff. It wasn't a pretty sight.

Tapping into another of her disciplines, Fortitude, to increase her defense before jumping as high as she could to reach the fire escape above her head. A few more jumps got her to the rooftop. If she stayed high above the ground, perhaps she wouldn't leave a scent behind for them to track. She ran and jumped to the next rooftop, then to another, trying to keep her feet off the roof as much as possible.
When she reached the fifth rooftop she was too tired to jump anymore. Kindred had amazing reflexes, heightened senses and super human abilites, but using these cost energy.
Sliding down the fire escape, she kept to the shadows of the alley and waited, inhaling deeply to scent the air around her. What she found was not good. The unknown Kindred, now she could pick out several, had managed to follow her. It actually wasn't that farfetched. She was still young to the world of the Kindred and inexperienced in the real world thanks to Lacroix keeping her in her gilded cage.

Her fear spiked again, like a beacon letting them know where she was. All they had to do was follow the smell of her fear to find her.
Juliette was still trying to decide what to do what she sensed them close. Very close. When several shadows appeared and headed her way she didn't bother to hide anymore. It was useless. She had failed to reach the Anarchs. Now she would enter final death.
But she would face it according to the pride in the bloodline of her clan. She would not beg. She had begged too much under Lacroix's thumb, begged for him to stop, begging him to let her go. It had always made him laugh while it left the taste of bile in her mouth.

Juliette came out of the shadows. Her perfectly coiffed hair was disheveled, her bun coming loose and several strands falling into her face, which was streaked with dirt as her white gown was streaked with dust and grime.
But her eyes... her eyes held power. They were strong and hard, holding the fire of rebellion.

"Why can't you just leave me be?" she asked, her voice full of venom and her chin lifting stubbornly. "I have no interest in your politics. All I ever wanted was to be free of your vile and cowardly Prince. My only regret is that I did not end him myself."

The voice that came from the shadow was surprisingly gentle. "Childe, who would blame you? You speak of LaCroix with sagacity and gall. You speak with anguish - with hurt. I am not him; we are not him..." Vernon stepped forth into the pale moonlight, using an open hand to indicate Aurelia by his side. "Even the Camarilla, controlling as it might seem at times, is not akin to that fool LaCroix. Listen before you judge..."

Vernon kept his eyes on this estranged member of his kin; she was passionate, rebellious, strong and fragile all at once: she immediately prompted memories of Aurelia when she had come back to him after years on trial with the Prince of London. Beneath that anger though, submersed amongst complex layers of vitriol and indignation compounded by time, there was a quietly germinating gift of brilliance - Ventrue choose their childe carefully - even arrogant and unbalanced ones such as LaCroix. What Vernon saw in Aurelia, he now saw in her.

"This is my childe," Vernon continued, indicating Aurelia again. He had sensed her fire and rebellious spirit flared on the mention of the Camarilla and its former Prince; he wanted to appease that notion quickly - so he made an educated guess. "Your sire treated you as no true Ventrue treats their progeny, I assure you of that. LaCroix and I are of around the same age - I'm actually quite confident we fought against each other, back as kine. I know trusting me seems difficult, but examine the truth you feel, not just what you see. My childe suffered early as you once did, there being little I could do to prevent it; but since that time I have done everything within my power to ensure she flourishes. Everything." He gazed deeply into her eyes with his own. The opportunity to try and dominate her arose, but he resisted. He needed to build trust, not power.

As the rain fell, finely and with no little grace as raindrops flourished over the scene, Vernon slowly raised a hand and took a slow step forward.

"Let us start with the first block of trust - the most simple one of all. My name is Vernon. Vernon Grant-Bell. My childe is Aurelia Nunez. May I have your name?"

Juliette regarded him with distrust in her eyes. She could scent no deceit in his words, but time and experience had taught her to be distrustful of Ventrue, especially male Ventrue.

His hand stretched towards her and she pulled back a little, then cursed herself for her fear and come forward again.
"My sire," she said, speaking the word acidly, as though it left a bad taste in her mouth, "he renamed me Juliette when he murdered me. He took my life from me, embraced me without my consent. Then, to cover his crime against the laws that govern us all, he kept me caged like an animal. Like a pet or a pretty doll for him to play with."
She hissed at the memory. "I will never be anyone's plaything again. I would rather enter the second death then ever be treated as he treated me. Lacroix was a disgusting shell of a kindred, not worthy of the Ventrue blood in his veins nor the title of Prince."

She put her shoulders back and shook her head, trying to shake off the darkness that threatened to engulf her as she thought of the years of torment she had endured in Lacroix's clutches.
"My name is Juliette. I have no last name. No real lineage other then my Ventrue blood. What is it that you want of me sir? I doubt you wish to have a cast off stray in your company, for that is what I have become now that my sire is dead and my bloodline has forsaken me."
Alyce listened as Matt talked. It was sad, but in a way mirrored what had happened to a lot of people since the outbreak. She felt really bad for him.
"You don't have to get a job," she told him, covering his hand with hers and patting it. "You can stay as long as you need to. I don't really eat much anyway so sharing rations with you won't be hard. Plus it will be nice you have a man around here in case... well, in case I run into those guys again."
She shivered at the thought of the men that had attacked her.

"I owe you my life," she told him. "But I would help you anyway. It's nothing to let you stay here. I've got room. And if you really want to work and get out into the city to find your father, their are usually curior jobs available, especially for someone who can handle themselves like you can. Who could deliver outside the walls to check points or watchtowers. The military will pay you in rations, while more... unofficial people will pay you in other things."

Basically if you weren't working for the military then you were a smuggler. That was how things worked.
The only other option was the be a criminal like the Fireflies.
Alyce went to a box in the corner near the bed and pulled out some old but clean looking men's clothes. "These were my brother's before he left," she explained. "If you want a shower, you could change into these."
She offered him the clothes. She had an extra blanket which she could use to make up the shabby couch. It wasn't much, but it was really all she had to offer him. It was either the couch or in the bed with her...
Alyce blushed heavily at that thought and pushed it away. He was extremely good looking, that was true. You'd have to be a corpse not to be interested in that strong body, but he was here because he needed help. She wasn't going to take advantage of the situation.
Katie - Emma's House - Emma / Shannon

Katie pouted a little. This lady wasn't the boss of her. Why did she tell her what to do? But she didn't want to be bad so she went to a chair and sat.
Then the woman wanted to make up a story. That was silly. She wasn't going to get invovled with it. She was just going to sit and be quiet and not pay any attention to this lady and her silly ideas.

A minute later she was swinging her feet in the chair. "One time there was a bear named Bull and an eagle named Lauren. The bear was always roaring and being loud until he met the eagle. She pecked him on the head whenever he was loud, so he started being quiet when she was around. As long as he behaved, the eagle stayed. But one day Lauren found a kitten named Katie. Katie's daddy, a wolf named Tyler, had disappeared. He was looking for her but had gotten lost. Katie was very very sad that her daddy was gone and she was all alone. So Lauren promised to take care of her. Bull didn't like Katie that much, because she took Lauren's attention. Katie didn't mean to be trouble, she really didn't. She just really wanted her daddy. Because Katie had been bad before and her daddy had gotten angry at her."

During her story, Katie had curled up in the chair. She wrapped her arms around her legs, pulling her knees to her chest.
"Then the eagle got hurt. Bull the bear tried to help her, but he couldn't. He felt really sad. Katie the kitten didn't know what to do. Then some people came. They didn't like Bull, so they locked him up. They didn't like the kitten either, but they tried to fix Lauren. The kitten didn't know what to do. She just... just wished she could have her daddy back... she would never be bad again if she could just have her daddy back..."

The little girl strated to tear up. She wiped at her eyes and stared at the floor.

Jessalyn - House - Floyd / Abram

Jess went upstairs but could still hear them talking. It was faint, but at least it sounded civil. To be honest, the man Abram scared her. Every man she had ever come across, except Floyd, had ended up betraying or hurting her. And Abram wasn't a small man. If he decided to hurt her or Floyd, he could do some serious damage. Especially to Floyd since he was recovering.

She entered the room and took off her borrowed and torn shirt. Tossing it aside, she looked in the mirror at her swollen stomach. She cradled it, turning to the side and cocking her head.
"We'll be okay," she told herself and her baby. "Floyd will be okay. Everything is going to be fine now."

Among the maternaty clothes that had been left behind was a large nightgown. It felt nice against her skin, luxerious after all they had been through.
Pulling back the sheets, she climbed into the queen sized bed and snuggled under the covers. A bed felt like heaven to her. She closed her eyes and sighed deeply.
Before long she was asleep.

Katie - Haywood / Emma and Daniel's House - Shannon / Emma

"Katie?"
The voice called for her. A man's voice...
Daddy! It was her daddy!
"Katie? Where are you?"
"I'm here Daddy!"
"Where are you?"
Katie ran in the darkness, searching desperately for her father. But the more she ran, the further away he sounded.
"Daddy! Daddy! I'm here!"
"Katie?"
"Daddy! Don't leave me!"
"Katie..."

The little girl woke up crying. It took her a moment to remember where she was.
That's right, Emma's house. She had brought her here after that mean man had talked bad about her daddy. He had said such horrible things. Katie frowned darkly.
She hated that man.

But could he have been right? Could her daddy still be alive? Was he out there, looking for her?
They had left the underground that was their home. He might still be there looking for her. She needed to get back there! She needed to find her daddy!

With new determination, Katie jumped out of the bed and ran down the stairs. She saw Emma and a strange woman in the room. She shied towards Emma, watching the unknown woman uncertainly.
She tugged at Emma's hand. "I want to go outside. Can I?" she whispered.
She didn't want to tell Emma that she was going to find her daddy. Emma would only worry. Once she found him, they could come back and get Lauren and Bull. Maybe Emma would come with them too. Then they could go home and everything would be good again.
Jessalyn - House - Floyd / Abram

When Floyd woke with such a start Jess was concerned he had been having a nightmare. She wiped his forehead and smiled. "It's okay Floyd. Everything is fine."
When he asked if she was hurt she smiled warmly and kissed his cheek. "He didn't hurt me," she assured him in a whisper. "His name is Abram. He stitched you up. And he brought in plenty of food. Here, I made some soup."
She offered it to him, helping him sit up in order to eat it.

Abram entered the room as he Floyd was eating. "I'm impressed you were ready to fight me injured like you were. You've got balls. I respect a man who risks himself to protect his family. First Sergeant Abram Chamberlin, US Army," he introduced himself and smiled at Jess. "You got yourself quite a lady here. Pregnant in times like these is not easy. But with a dad and mom like you two he's starting off right."

Jess smiled and looked at Floyd. She hoped he wouldn't be angry that she had lead Abram to believe that they were... well, you know. It wasn't just that she was worried about anyone finding out she was unattached. It was more like a hope that she prayed would come true.

"Anyway," Abram said. "I need place to rest for a few days. If you'll let me stay here I'll help defend this place til you're healed up. I've got food and other supplies to share. I've got a gun but I am handy in close range fighting too. And I swear on my mother's grave I will not screw you and your family over."
Abram was directing all of this to Floyd, the man in charge. Jess didn't mind that. Everything was Floyd's decision after all. She would follow whatever he said, because in this world of survival he knew best.

Jess yawned behind her hand.
Abram's attention went to her for a moment. "You tired ma'am? You should be, with all that's happened to you. Go on upstairs and rest while your man and I talk."
Jess looked to Floyd as Abram offered her his hand. She tried not to let the man telling her what to do bother her, it was likely his military training and he was trying to help. Jess looked back to the man, cocking her head. "I don't mean this is a bad way, but please could you refrain from telling me what to do? You did help us, but you are still a stranger. The only person I will listen to and obey is Floyd."
Abram immediately stepped back. "Of course. I didn't mean nothing by it ma'am," he glanced at Floyd. "Sorry man. Wasn't trying to step on any toes."
Name: Arysta Wargrave

Age: 26

Class: Summoner

Race: Human

Appearance:

Continent of Origin: Tormin

Connection to Tyme: sister of Misa Kumiko

Weapons: Espers

Magic: Summoner of Espers

History: Arysta grew up as the princess of Tormin. She was the beloved child of the king and queen, even though she was... strange...
The king and queen always hid the fact that the princess had the ability to see and hear 'monsters'. Arysta would draw these creatures and tell their names. She saw them in her mind and in her dreams. But despite their fierce appearance, child Arysta was never afraid of them. Eventually she learned that her parents didn't like her friends. So she started keeping them to herself, even as more and more appeared. She now has several of these creatures in her mind. They appear whenever a certain emotion rises above all others. So Arysta had to learn at a young age to control herself and her emotions.
But that is not the only secret her parents have kept from everyone.

Arysta is, unknown to her, actually not of the royal house of Tormin, but an adopted child of Avanase. The twin sister of one Misa Kumiko. The girls were separated at birth to protect them and the country. And so the girls grew up, never knowing the existence of the other and each feeling that something was missing in their lives.

Arysta is kind and sweet, but tends to jump into things without thinking them through. She is quick to snap if you irritate her, but quick to forgive if you apologize. If she is in the wrong she will admit it and apologize for any wrongdoing on her part, but if she believes she is right she will fight tooth and nail for what she believes in. Once she makes a friend she stays loyal and true to them.
Trust is very important to her, as is the truth. And if you even think about attacking Tyme, look out! She WILL hurt you.
Because of having to suppress her feelings and the Espers for so long she is self-conscious about things and doesn't reveal her true self to just anyone. You really have to gain her trust in order to find out about her ability to summon Espers.
A major problem is that she cannot yet control the summoning or the Espers. They cannot be summoned on command and when they do appear they do what they will Their main objective is to protect and help Arysta, whether to remove someone or something upsetting her or killing anyone who attacks her. Her ability to summon Espers is more of a reflex then anything else, a defensive measure that only occurs as a last resort.

Quotes:

"Love is the strongest magic."
"You are Tyme, the hero of Avenase. You are Tyme, commander of the Leviathan. You are Tyme, the man I love more then my own life."
