It is, as far as i'm aware, they both mean to absolve something of one's sins. Now, the jist I get from Malak is not exclusive to absolving, but he actually...

Malak may redeem a soul of his sins, only to guide another to exact vengeance upon the redeemed. In other words, he'll send one to redeem himself and the other to get revenge

Balances things. Maybe replace Redemption with Balance?
