Ah, that makes perfect sense.
No worries. Hey, I managed to post only one paragraph. I am proud of myself.
The miller hissed at her. "Don't you touch my daughter, shape shifter! You've done this and now you deny it, with her blood still on you!" He grabbed a chair and would have hit her over the head with it, if Martin had not caught it, and then knocked him cold with one roundhouse punch. "You better get out of here Abelina, before he wakes up. I'll take care of Dana and try to talk her father out of this foolishness, when he wakes up."
Shadrack almost flipped out when she laid a hundred dollar tip down. That was a solid
day's pay and she was throwing it at some waitresses. He was unsure if she was some
sort of saint for doing so, or just so rich that it hardly mattered to her. Either
way, it was something all right. He would have been wise to remember that potentially
rich daughters generally have rich parents, that do not approve of gypsy boys wooing
their daughters, but then he had never been the wisest guy around.

His mother was done negotiating with the manager, and walked over to him. "Shad, I'm
going to stay and work a shift, O.K.? They are short handed today." She did not need
to tell him her opinion of his breakfast companion. Her distaste was in her eyes.
"Come back and get me at four, when my shift ends." Just like that, she had and her
job, and Florence was already taking off her apron and heading out the door, to rejoin
what was left of what was supposed to be her regular day off.

Shad nodded and took another sip of his coffee, wishing his mother was not going to be
hovering over his conversation with the girl, asking if he wanted more coffee and
such. He knew her only to well. As it was, girl or no girl, he was going to blow the
dinner and get to the library, rather than waiting around for his mother's little
show.

"My ma," he mumbled, drinking up the last of his coffee. "I'm here to get work. I'm
a mechanic, but I got to get my GED out of the way first." He knew his mother would
already have negotiated their meals into the deal, so there was nothing to pay for.
Florence was already gone, meaning he did not need to leave a tip. The only thing
keeping him there, and it was big draw, was the girl.
I was not totally surprised when she followed me into the church. I did not argue with her then, and I have learned not to bother arguing with her since then. Instead, I am more careful where I venture, for she is sure to follow me. We have never been in bear's cave, but we have been in a few rough spots over the years. Those are stories for another day though.

When she asked me what I was thinking, I was positioning myself for a shot of the empty sanctuary, birds and all. "Honestly, I am thinking about the beauty of this old building and of the stained glass windows and of how sad it all seems. Once this was part of a thriving community. Now it stands silent and alone. I'm also thinking that I am glad you offered to be my guide. I'm sure that this isn't part of the normal tour and I never would have discovered it without you."

I almost wanted to hug her, in that moment, but didn't. I wasn't sure how it she would receive such attentions. Instead, I finished up with photographing the interior of the church. What I would have given to seen it once in it's hay day, to hear the music floating down to the cemetery and to hear the stories of the people. Some of those stories were probably handed down in Miss Taylor's family. I would have to question her more closely, as part of my research, and see if she had any older living relatives I could meet. At that moment though, simply standing there with her was enough. For a moment, I was content.

Most of my family is gone, and was gone, at that point. My parents died when I was a little boy and my Uncle Seth raised my sister and I. He moved us out to Hilo, where he was a teacher at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, in the history department. My sister is still alive, but besides her, there isn't anyone closer than some second cousins. It was rather a lonely way to grow up, knowing that I was the sole heir to the MacDonald name, at least in my branch of the family tree. Of course, as my sister and I always joke, there is always Uncle Ronald.
Bert suddenly found himself with his dream girl on his arm, ready to drive her home. He had known that he would get to this point, but did not know it would happen so quickly. He did not worry to much about her father. Generally, he got along with parents. Still, he did not wish to confront the man until he had to do so. There had already been one fight tonight, over the lovely Rose, and he did not want to start another one.

He walked her to his truck and helped her up into the passenger's seat, his hands lingering for a moment on her waist, before self consciously letting go. "So, where do you live, and when do they expect you back by?" He figured that he had at least a few hours until the dance was over, so hopefully he would not have to drop Rose off right away.

Bert started up the old truck, which protested for a moment, before coughing to life. He had been saving up for a newer one, but it would take him awhile. Until then, he would have to keep tinkering with Old Betsy, keeping her one the road yet another year or two. He turned the radio on as they drove away, and Patsy Cline came one, singing about a midnight walk and a longing love. Bert resisted his impulse to sing along with the song.
When is a bump ever badly timed?
O.K., sounds good.

Hello Rune. Good to meet you.
It was a very helpful answer. Thank you. I am already in one game which has enormously long posts which I have trouble keeping up with. I just wanted to hear your answer before throwing my hat in the ring. I'm interested, but I start a new job soon and would only be able to check the game once per day. If it turned into a ton of posts by the same people, every day, it would be difficult for me.
Sounds fine.
