CHARACTER INTERACTION = MORE BRANDU SONG MOMENTS

FECK YEA

I mean. Of course I'm looking for more interaction moments with A and V... Hahahaha.
Rider was about to frown, but thankfully Victoria was courtier enough to say something that could prevent Tobias from taking offense from her husband’s surly expression. “If the crown prince commands it, so shall it be,” She nodded and straightened her spine; the man beside her took the cure and lifted his face, the two of them performing the same crisp salute in response to their new given orders. Asides from that, the prince’s assurance that they were both trusted by the royal family served to strengthen their resolve.

“Your Highness, did you try to join the front lines again? You could’ve gotten killed! Look at you!” Avian fussed over the prince once the humans were (sort of) out of earshot. “Singed and bruised. Why, if your father sees you like this, he’d-“ The young man threw his hands up in a gesture of surrender then shook his head. Really, the prince needed a stronger watch, for his own safety.

“Anyway, wish us luck, Your Highness,” His lady partner was already walking towards the door. She threw a wink over her shoulder then waggled her fingers at the prince as a goodbye gesture before completely disappearing from sight.

Songbird had finished off the tea Brandy gave him and was feeling much better. Well, not really. His nap, the one where he had leaned against the black bunny (unknowingly, pfft), was interrupted when a soldier burst in the medic camp and announced that the humans had arrived. “What do you want us to do, give them all a manicure?” He snapped at the retreating figure before being calmed down by both Brandy and Serenade. Newly-awakened Songbird was almost always in Thugbird mode.
In any case, he went to the castle with Serenade and Dissonance to see the humans off, although he wasn’t going with them, especially since he saw who were accompanying the group. Royal Dragoons, by the look of their weapons and mounts.

“Goodbye and good luck,” He waved at the humans, sinking back against the wall. Half a day of nurturing (dying) Nobodies had left the item hunter pale with dark bruise-like shadows under his eyes, plus Songbird looked like he could deal with a good week of sleep.

Back to Victoria and Avian.

The humans rode on their chicken mounts, but Victoria and Avian were both members of the elite force and had their own special companions. The woman smiled and knelt down in front of a white tiger with the most innocent blue eyes ever, cooing, “Hello, Illumine. Have you missed me? Oh you big sweetheart you” before giving the huge cat a hug. The creature responded with a purr before snuggling against Victoria.

It didn’t seem like a predator, really. More like a giant house cat. Illumine the white tiger, after displaying admirable camaraderie with the ‘chocobos’, had tried to lick Jasper and Lesley, although he was shied away by a guard who thought the two humans might die of panic by being approached by a tiger. He had busied himself with trying to play with Inadi instead (a.k.a hello-human-want-to-rub-my-belly play), although that effort was halted when Victoria called him.

On the other hand, Avian’s mount was a massive ebony wolf. “Hello, Ellianne,” The soldier greeted the creature politely. She seemed to have the same disposition as her master; whereas Illumine (or Lulu for short) had tried to play with the humans like an overgrown baby, the wolf sat back on her haunches and observed them all with wise teal eyes.

“Anyone need help with their mounts?” Avian called out.

Thaum: Coliseum

“T-thanks,” Lute stammered out when the songstress helped him up. He resisted the urge to pat his knees to get rid of the dirt on his clothes, and decided to answer her inquiry. However, before he could even explain how his abilities were a pretty good match with hers (now, at least), Selan belted off and Lute had to pick up the pace in case he amplified the wrong bit. I mean, he didn’t know if her songs worked only when the whole part was heard or not, right? To anyone watching, it just seemed like some whacko with white hair was wringing his left hand around to imitate a fisherman gathering his net, but then the effect was clear. Selan’s voice overlapped the noises created by the nearest people, the area of effect expanding in a noticeably slower manner the further it was from Lute.

“Goshdarnit, could you just help me instead of snarking- Wow, okay, you’re working. Gee, the way you’re doing your share, I thought I was the one doing everything,” Lute muttered, his head once again tilted to the side as he engaged in yet another snark battle with his (imaginary?) companion. “Yeah, Delilah. You’re the queen. Whatever.” He finally fell silent, features creased in deep concentration as Selan kept her aria up.
In the end, the beast was defeated, victory was gained, yadda yadda, but the effort of amplifying something in a large area for an extended period of time made Lute just as weary as, let’s say, his other warrior buddies. He wasn’t sweating buckets, no, but he felt the strain in his head. If that made sense.

Time to cover up the KO’d bug. Lute threw his corner with far more gusto than everyone else did.

“Yeah, yeah, let’s go meet Dr. Dream. C’mon, let’s get out of this place before another scorpion shows up,” Lute waved his hand dismissively and cringed when a passerby suddenly found her secret mutterings broadcasted over the nearest five meters. “Sorry, can’t control it. It’s like a
 Um
 What stuff can’t you control
? Ah, puberty. It’s like puberty,” He told the lady, who was now glaring at him with hateful eyes. Yeah, he was running his mouth off now.

Also, before all of them left the arena, Jeff said something around the lines of “Tell your sister I said hi, and she missed some pretty gnarly action today”.
Lute didn’t know how to react to this. Was Jeff hitting on his beloved sister? He trudged out of the Coliseum feeling more than a little disoriented with the sudden turn of events. Why does Jeff know his sister? Who used the word ‘gnarly’ to describe action nowadays? Why didn't Jeff shave? Goshdarnit, Jeff.

Now that the mother slime was dead, you’d think that her spawn would at least split up and flee from the area but that wasn’t what happened. The few remnants of the glob army still slithered after the humans, only to have some members of their measly troop get squished under Victoria Sieghart’s steel-capped boots. “How long did it take them to kill the big slime?” She muttered to her partner as they made quick disposal of the remaining monsters. Avian looked uncharacteristically grim when he said, “Around thirty Sol minutes, I guess?” The two of them shared a pained look before approaching the humans; it was almost as if the group had failed some criterion that the two soldiers had imposed upon meeting them, and because of that mistake their worth became even less than the meager amount it already was earlier. Truth is, the slimes were the so-called bottom rung of the monster ladder, and they were often the ones used to train rookie soldiers. An average member of the Solean cavalry could defeat five baby slimes in three Sol minutes by himself or herself, while a mother slime would take about seven to ten Sol minutes.

“Let’s go,” The fiery-haired woman sighed then turned her back to the humans, but her partner stayed to give them a hasty introduction. “I’m Avian Rider, that’s my wife Victoria Sieghart. We’re members of the Royal Dragoons, the elite force which is tasked with the security of the royal family. During times of war, the Royal Dragoons are also the ones supposed to spearhead our forces,” He paused and then smiled ruefully, his head tilted towards the retreating figure of the woman, “Which is why she’s upset. We both want to return to the aid of our comrades as soon as possible, so if all of you would please cooperate to make this excursion a pleasant and efficient experience for both of our parties.”

That being said, he noticed that a few members of the party were wounded and needed help returning to the castle.

Vincent had sprained his ankle, so he was to be assisted by Hakuren and Inadi all the way back.

In Sol’s castle:
The humans were ushered in by their new guides; the wounded was taken to the infirmary, but the urgency of the situation urged the new guides to keep everyone present. They were presented before the heir apparent, since the king was away, and Victoria and Avian glanced at the prince Tobias in worry. They hoped he wouldn’t get too nervous.

“Your Highness, if you will, the time these people will use for repast
Can you excuse me and my wife so that we can assist with repairing the outer garrision?” Rider bowed down before sharing yet another worried look with his partner.

Meanwhile in Sol:

“Thank you, Serenade,” Songbird wiped some grime off his exposed elbow and watched as a nearby soldier drew his last breath. The item hunter’s face contorted into a grimace of ill-concealed anguish as yet another body was added to the already growing pile of corpses. He put his dirty towel down then pulled his sleeves up again, dimly remembering to tie his clothes tightly to prevent these from dipping down into the patient’s face, then gently ran his hand over the deceased soldier’s face to close his eyes. He stepped back as a pair of interns went in and wheeled the body out. “I can’t believe the dragons would do this.”

The medic camp suddenly seemed like a place of peace, isolated from the noises of war happening just outside the door. He also felt his frustration ebb away, only to be replaced by a bone-deep weariness, and Songbird sunk down on a chair, supporting his head with one arm. If he just knew more, he could’ve saved a lot of the soldiers.
