Jamie watched the shutters close as a darkness consumed the fortified position manned by Marines and ODST alike. Cole and she nodded to each other as they watched the airlock before them leak blue flames from a cutter. Looking to her left, Jamie saw another ODST. Her HUD IDed the soldier as Nicole. She had the pleasure of working with the ODST in the past. Their squads worked pretty together frequently.

Eyes trained back on the trail of the sparks, the airlock burst open as plasma fire roared towards them. Acting on trained response, the DMR kicked back against Jamie as she placed her rounds carefully at her targets. The shielding around an elite shimmered as her bullets finally punched through. She smirked in satisfaction as she saw the lizard-like thing clutch at its throat.

Her magazine clipped empty as she ducked behind her position. As she ejected her spent mag and slammed in a fresh one, her stomach churned as she saw the face of a Marine melt away from the plasma. The man screamed, but no sound came out. She looked away as she popped back up. She fell a grunt before she was driven back into cover.

"How many can they fit into one of those things!" Cole ducked down as he ejected clip from his assault rifle. "Too bad we can't lob a grenade over. That'd clear the area."

"Windows."

Cole sighed as he chambered a round. "Precisely why I said, 'no grenades'!"

On the count of two, the two ODST popped up from their barricade, which was bathed in melting, dark, spots from the plasma weapons. The stream of covenant began to die down as the UNSC pushed back the boarding party. Jamie fired as her second clip quickly drained. All around her, bodies of the dead littered the ground. For every covenant that was killed, two Marines laid dead or severely wounded from plasma burn.

As the last grunt fell, she heard her CO's voice cut into her squad chatter. "Cease fire! Secure this section and move to the next sector!"
Jamie sat in the mess when the sirens sounded off. Scurrying to her feet, she, as were all the other personnel rushed to their action stations. Having just come from a joint exercise with a squad of Marines whom were stationed on the Lunar Colony, her ODST armor was already snapped in snuggly. Securing her helmet as she moved down the corridors, she heard a hiss and click as a vacuum seal formed.

Passing a window, she looked out. Far off, above Earth's low orbit, a brilliant flash blossomed in the darkness of space. Another quickly followed.

"Holy shit!" a Marine pointed out the window as other stopped to watch. "Were those the defense platforms? Oh shit!"

Jamie saw enough. She kept moving as her eyes stared right ahead while keeping tabs of the HUD icons on her helmets visor. Comm chatter was already coming through from her squad as the order to regroup was given. Finally, reaching the armory, she sent a confirmation and to her locker. She grabbed her M395 DMR and M7. The familiar weight felt wonderful in her gloved hands as she strapped the M7 to her secondary holster and filled her utility pouches with miscellaneous equipment from the quartermaster.

"Schuster!" Jamie looked back as she was about to step through the armory exit. It was Cole from her squad. "Ready to smoke some Covenant?"

Jamie smiled as they moved towards the rendezvous position. "Thought they'd never come," she said. "Still can't believe they blasted through Reach."

"One word. Plasma."

The ODST scoffed as the speakers overhead sounded the alarm for broaders. The two rounded a corner as their squad came into sight.

"Schuster! Cole! Drop ships coming in," said their CO as others formed a defensive perimeter. "Front and center!"

They both fell in. Jamie checked her DMR and chambered a round. She breathed out slowly. Her mind become focused. She was ready.
Name: Jamie Schuster

Age: 24

Appearance Without Armor:

Appearance With Armor:

Personality: Curt and to the point, Jamie is the extreme of a stoic personality. She gets things done, and follows her orders to the letter. While she values camaraderie, she isn’t as vocal about it as others in her squad. Outside of combat, she just observes. With those who stay alive long enough, she’ll break out a hint of sarcasm here and there.

Bio: Raised on the inner colony of Mars, Jamie saw the war through the lens of the news screens. Her parents were both affluent UNSC scientist, which saved her from having to enlist to escape the harsher life that many of the not so fortunate went through. On the barren surface of the red planet, her life was stagnant, running through the monotonous days of academia and anti-war talk.

When the Human-Covenant war escalated, particularly on the outer colonies, a draft was instituted, which took away her brother. With the severity of the war hitting home, she soon enough enlisted in hopes of finding her kin to do everything she could to ensure his survival. Her parents tried to use their influence to dissuade the UNSC military command, but there was only so much they could do.

Surviving basic and excelling in marksmanship and reconnaissance, she was placed into Force Recon. Jamie saw her fair share of skirmishes with the alien invaders, which eventually led her to being inducted into the ODST program voluntarily.

Homeworld: Mars

Primary Weapon: M395 Designated Marksman Rifle

Secondary Weapon: M7 Submachine Gun

Supplies: Emergency Medical Kit, 3 magazines for the DMR, 4 Clips for the SMG, 2 grenades, and reconnaissance kit

Misc Info: She always wears a purple and blue bracelet, the outer layer blue, the inner part purple. Her brother has the opposite of blue in and purple out.
ODST x ODST sounds fun!
Why don't you go ahead and respond? Once your character is in the cave, I will have those NPCs interact with the two.
Just one more week, and I can forget about school for a moment and recuperate in the warm, summer days! Excited! At least until summer classes start of course...

Posted a response. Hopefully it wasn't moving too fast. I tried to pace it appropriately.

Thank goodness I backed up my old computer. I would've been so frustrated if I lost all my documents ...
It didn’t take a genius to see that the man was exhausted. Tala watched as his chest heaved in and out, desperate to suck in fresh air. She lowered her weapon slightly deciding what she should do. Should she point him in the direction of the Mojave outpost or just leave him? Either way, it had to be better than where he came from before. Speaking of which…

"Legion. Legion are coming. Gotta hide."

Her blood ran cold like the morning frost. The Legion was here? This close? Her previous dilemma forgotten, her mind raced as she began to piece things together. This man was running from the explosion. The Legion was following him. She swore in her tribe’s tongue. They needed to get out of here fast.

She looked beyond the man as se could swear tiny specks were moving towards them, quickly if her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her. Turning back towards the crest of the hill, she continued her ascension. “Come on then,” she said over her shoulder, “There’s a place we can hide until they pass. Don’t know why their after you, and I don’t really care.”

Her breathing grew shallow as she reached the hilltop. Bending down, she felt along a crevice. Her fingers traced the course texture until she found a small latch. Tugging on the latch, a manmade concealed door opened before her as she stepped inside the musky interior. The lamps inside were lit. There was a smuggling caravan here. Movement from further within emphasized the point.

Two knocks. Three Slaps. Two knocks. One and a half slaps.

The click of a safety whispered in her ears. Be it putting the safety on or off, she didn’t know. The universal sign of a smuggler had been given. Only an unseasoned smuggler wouldn’t get it.

She turned back and saw the man following behind her. She looked to the desert beyond. They were getting closer.

Fearing her voice would echo, she waved urgently. They needed to disappear now. If the Legion came any closer, this safe house would be compromised with a fate worse than death soon following. She shuddered. Legion. They were the only group she truly feared out of all the gangs of the Nevada wastes.
Hey sorry about the huge wait! I had to replace my computer since my previous broke. Also, last week of finals is coming up, so its been pretty busy on my end.

If you're still wanting to continue, just let me know. I'll understand if your interest was lost due to my absence.
Indeed so! Also, like I mentioned in my interest check thread, I don't have a minimum word count nor do I have a maximum. I write as much as is necessary and also have the same thoughts regarding my partner's post. If you can convey enough material and development in a single paragraph, beautiful. If you need ten paragraphs, beautiful. The only thing I cannot stand, however, are one liners ...

Get some sleep then! I'm going to hit the hay pretty soon as well. Too many nights staying up and studying for finals for me ...
Thank goodness! I tend to treat my NPCs as if they were minor characters or mains. It really fleshes out the universe or setting for me. Going forward, know that I'm a huge lover and advocate for NPC usage!

I'll be waiting here then.
